We have already finished 80% of the coding for this. We are hoping to launch it by end of next week.

You can create your own Private forum and become the Manager of that forum. That is the easy part.
Challenge is to bring users to that forum and keep it interesting so that they come regularly to the forum.
This seems quite interesting, looking forward to it. π

Don't worry when she creates a private forum she can make you a Manager (Moderator) for that forum.
Wow, that's a superb feature. Waiting eagerly for it. I would like to create/be a part of some private forums once the feature is active. Can a private forum be created based on any topics and can have any names?
a) Select the Category in which the forum best fits. Give the forum a name which is not yet created. And write a small description about the forum you are trying to create.
b) Yes it can be any name till its not abusive / derogatory / mocking etc.
c) Forum name has to be unique. Meaning 2 forum with the same name is not allowed. This is to prevent confusion.
Can 2 different forums be merged?
Yes. We will bring that feature where if the creators of 2 different forums on similar Subject wants to join hands. They can merge their forums.
Sure interesting idea and all but what are its objectives? It sounds so much like invite only chat club threads, and those have more freedoms.
Forums are restrict the discussion to the purpose they are created.
I guess we will know more once the feature is rolled out and members start using it.
Yes. Initially may be this new feature be used as Invite only chat clubs so that members have more freedom compared to Public facing forums. However that is not the only thing we looking at with this.
The main objective behind this option is to provide users a friendly platform where they can create their own forum and manage it themselves (if they are keen on running a community).
As a creator of the private forum you should aim to become Public so that your forum can grow faster as it start appearing on Search Engines and readers without joining in can also read the discussion.
Before starting India Forums, I was running a Yahoo Groups (Fun2Share) and grew it to some 3000+ members. It started as a way to share Jokes and slowly we went into more current affairs and educational stuff. And we even did community meet. It was a good learning experience on how to run and manage an online community and grow it.
Cheers,
