P.S: My point is that this is the reality of forced marriage. ITV should stop showing such thing as Romance

This is really pathetic, society is still moving backwards because of these shows and serials. 😕 There are many forced marriages in our society, no one is bothering about the consent of the girl, society is on retrograde mode in many states, which is disturbing.

All of us hope and wish for a “happily-ever-after” ending to our wedding tales. But not everyone gets the life like a bed of roses. Troubles in paradise come to the lives of many, in the most unexpected ways.

But when troubles are dire enough to convert that paradise into hell, what is the right solution? Is it worth staying together for reasons like financial security, social embarrassment, kids, etc., or walking out is the only solution?

Writers and social reformers are trying their best to change the mindset of the society, but, these ITV serials and movies are still sticking to the retrograde traditions!

This topic brought me back from my long hibernation.

Everyone have already pointed out almost all the areas.. But I am here to stand up for the common man..Those people who obviously never get any recognition but are still part of all the ITV marriages..

Sure, They are taken for granted, sure they are treated as invisible heck sometimes even non-existent, but that doesn't mean they have no feelings.. that they have no rights.. And I am here to talk about them.. because they are as much important as the Dulha-Dulhan.

1. The 'Maggie guests':

Image

The Maggie guests are vital for all the ITV marriages. They are guests who appear only during the important events. We will never know who they are.. and mostly we don't even need to know. Are they relatives? distant relatives? ancestors? friends? enemies? terrorists? neighbors? villagers? politicians? Street vendors? gate crashers? Who knows? All we know is that they are there to stand coordinately around the mandap and silently stare at the mandap. They will be the most polite guests who won't even talk to each other or react to any single thing happening in the mandap(except in case of any disaster.. they are the first to escape... No Maggie causalities so far). They also fulfill their duties such as eating the invisible food provided by the invisible caterers. And the most amazing part of these guest are that the disappear in an instant. there are no lingerers. There will be no guest who would stay in the house asking for an extra bedsheet or a mosquito repellent. because all the guests vanish in an instant.

2. The invisible caterers:

Image

Now, any one attending an Indian wedding knows that the food is the integral part of the wedding. But ITV Caterers have much more on their plate. They are not there to cook and serve food. They are there to cook invisible food in an invisible cooking area. Then the invisible food have to be served in invisible cutlery to Maggie guest (and not any real family member) and that too in an invisible dining area. And In case of natural disasters (especially fire) the cooking area becomes visible but the staff invisible. And after all this we will never know if the caterers received their cheque or not because the 'shadi' was a forced or accidental.

3. The 'Shararat' decorators:

The ITV wedding decorators are super human beings. Let's not pretend that everyone didn't know that already.. okay? They don't just decorate a mansion.. they decorate the mansion multiple times a week with different colors and themes. These people have to decorate the mansion multiple times not just for wedding but for any random puja or party.

But the most important of their super power is they Vanish all the decorations by the snap of their fingers.

Image

They clean all the mandap, flowers decorations etc.. by the next morning especially before the 'Baahu' does the 'Aarti'

4.The depressed band-baja- wallahs:

Image

Most, if not all, ITV Baraats should have these. The depressed looking band which disappears the moment Dulha steps into the house. Did they receive money for their lackluster performance? will they ever know that the 'Dulha' they accompanied could not get married to the right 'Dulhan' or maybe did not even marry.

Why are they so depressed? Did they not receive payment for the previous ITV marriage they attended?

5.The ever optimistic Photographer:

Yes, He is there... You would never see him but he is there. We know he is there because there will always be a framed wedding photo to be broken for any future 'Apshagun'. A wedding album for everyone to skim through the pages during future 'sad' times. A couple photo for the future 'Vamp' to burn and have a huge evil monologue planning to destroy the couples happiness. Now that we have established he is there, Let's appreciate what he does. No matter what the situation is, Bride/groom swapping, Forced marriage, accidental marriage he have to capture the perfect 'Kodak' moments.

He have to take photos like these:😒😭

Image Image

And convert them into these:🥳

Image

A huge round of applause. This man deserves the respect for the hard work he puts into this. And Again.. we are never sure that HE gets paid or not.

6. The 'Come-at-me-with-all-you got' Panditji:

Image

No one ever mentioned it. But ITV weddings are not mere 'Shadis', they are 5 seasons of 'Khatron ke Khiladi' jammed into one hour. Bride/groom swapping and forced/accidental marriages seems like preliminary rounds compared to the rest of the possibilities. There could be

  • Fire

Image

  • Flood

Image

  • Thunder storm

Image

  • Cyclone

Image

  • Earthquake

Image

  • Naagin Attack

Image

  • Alien attack

Image

  • Meteor crash

Image

Anything is possible in the Mystical land of ITV. It all depends on the VFX budget the show got and the amount of Vamps and Villains.

And the Panditji is in the center of all these making two people, (who may/may not even like each other) tie the knot. Forget paycheck, this guy should insist on Life insurance.

Image

These are the people who make the ITV wedding the spectacle that it is... These are the people who withstand all the non-sense that is thrown at them and continue contributing to the ridiculousness known as ITV Shadi. They may not be acknowledged, they maybe forgotten in the next scene, They maybe replaced in between any cuts.. because they are invisible to the audience.. But it is also true that without them we may never enjoy the month-long weddings of ITV.

And lets hope all these people are getting full payment in advance.

This is an excellent post, showing the backstage artists' plight and payment delays. 👏 Though , all these characters are vital for each and every show, they will be there, presented in a lack lustre manner. Thoroughly enjoyed the tongue in cheek comments on different scenes. 🤣

Thank you for showing the reality. It is horrific, and we can expect that what happens next is more traumatic.

I am not a lawyer or a resident of India, but based on the research I did for one of my fan fictions, these people and their fictional counterparts are wasting their time on this ceremony. The Supreme Court has pointed out that under the Hindu Marriage Act, Sections 5 and 12(c), marriage without consent or with fraud is subject to nullification in civil court.

Forcibly taking someone to her marital home or keeping her there by force is a violation of her constitutional right to freedom of movement and personal liberty, a crime called wrongful confinement, punishable under the Indian Penal Code, Sections 340 and 342. Anyone who witnesses a forcible marriage can complain to the police, and the court will issue an order of habeas corpus to bring the forcibly married person before the court, at which point she can seek annulment. When a marriage is annulled, I expect that its consummation wouldn't qualify for the marital rape exception; it would be a punishable crime.

My fan fiction is based on a show in which a character was forced to consent to marriage because the police were holding her brother in jail and threatening to starve him. The lawyer in my story points out that it would be difficult to prove that the intimidation under which she agreed to marriage meets the legal definition of coercion. If anyone with more knowledge wants to argue that what I wrote is wrong, please comment on the chapter to tell me why.

When a show's TRPs drop, the producers will turn to a shaadi to keep the audience interested in a number of episodes. In fact, with all the preparations and exciting activities, it might easily last two weeks. However, there is one crucial characteristic in almost all television marriages.

There will be at least one issue that will threaten to disrupt the entire event. These plot twists vary from groom swapping to bride kidnapping to marrying the wrong person! They are ridiculous, yet they are popular, and they show exactly what is amusing on Indian television nowadays!

Marriage in the Indian Culture is a very sacred and a special bond between a man and a woman. Westerners applaud our Indian culture for its values when it comes to marriage and how scared we hold the view of marriage.

According to studies, television has a large effect on society. Some say that it is simply a television series intended for entertainment reasons. Nobody should take whatever a television series portrays seriously. But do you believe the serial makers should go to such lengths only to entertain us?

Give your thoughts on what do you think on how TV serials are portraying the concept of marriage. Do you think, directors of TV serials should start portraying marriage and divorce as something sacred. Or should they just portray it as they like because it's just a TV show? Would the way a TV show portrays a topic have an impact on today's generation?

Over to you...

I don't agree with this forced and fake marriages not at all....But aajkal usse bhi worsest trend in Itv hai na. ....ek patni hothe doosre se shaadi karna.....Of course Balaji shows are in the top position to literally butchering the Hindu marriage act ....

And they are totally enjoy it and find romantic theses types of marriage bcoz the way shows makers present their forced, accidental marriage

Itv should definitely stop showing these type marriage and any regressive content 👍🏼

You really put together a delightful work of art with all of these hilarious GIFs.

And the final image with "yoga-kṣemaṃ vahāmy aham" misspelled as "yoge-kṣemaṃ vahāmy ahama" is the cherry on top.

On Mehandī Hai Racanevālī, the husband thought it would be a nice surprise to hang a forced wedding photo in the bedroom, and the wife told him to take it down because it looked bad, with his scowling and her headed-for-slaughter expression. The invisible photographer hadn't worked a miracle that time!

This moment of honesty was quickly buried in a later episode when the wife insisted on putting up the same wedding photo and followed Hindi TV convention by declaring that the man who forced her was her real husband and no one could force her to go back to her first husband, whom she had freely chosen to marry. The show's disrespect for the character's history bothered me, and so, in my fan fiction, I made the forcible second husband realize that his wife still kept photos from her happy first wedding in her mobile phone, ready for the occasion when she would need them to reconnect with her amnesiac first husband.

My story starts with the husband wanting to tell his wife that he loves her, after having forced her to marry him. Maybe that makes me part of the problem of trivializing forced marriages, but I'm trying to be part of the solution. In my story, the husband discovers that his wife cannot forget being held by force, and he doesn't just get to say sorry and be forgiven. Events happen that make him go on feeling sorry, and although he tries hard, he is unable to make it right. Bigamy and infidelity are serious matters in my story too, but with a few twists that I hope readers like.

Physical abuse is a reality in not just villages and uneducated households, but it exists in the urban regions too after such forceful marriages.

See these interesting and innovative ways of marriages on ITV! ---

Our society's obsession with marriages reflects in the relentlessness with which they are carried out on television. Life inspires art, after all. However, the shows are fictional, which means that the creators can play with concepts. Here are 5 instances when they arguably played a little too much.

This scene--- where a woman had 'sindoor varsha' on herself after another woman slipped and toppled the plate off her hands. The scene has a lot of twists, which can be tough to process. This is why you see all the characters being taken aback one by one. They were waiting for their turn

Here, the guy comes to pick up a hairbrush when his sleeve accidentally grazes against a box of indoor. His sleeve catches a handful of it by some miracle and as he is brushing his hair, the indoor falls on the woman's forehead and they get married.

In this swayamvar type situation, the woman asks her suitors to get her a piece of the moon (fair), and they agree (sweet). Look at that guy trying to get a piece of the moon for his lady love. Valentine's Day is around the corner, you know what to ask for, ladies.
Entry of the former husband with a new memory at the second wedding of his ex-wife. This was on Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, but you know that already. I feel like it was Tulsi-Mihir's wedding that set the tone for the other TV marriages that followed. The benchmark for absurdity was set pretty high and it didn't help that the 'event' remains one of the most-watched ones on Indian TV.

Agree with you that physical or emotional abuse is not only happening in villages after marriage same things happen in urban areas also in very large amounts with educated people by very '' educated and progressive people '' bcoz thinks its their right to treat their pattern however they wants bcoz girls became '' PRAYA DHAN'' they cannot returns their parents home what will society think and will say about her failed marriage juara ladki mai hi kux kami hogi...

Their parents doesn't support them and let them walk out from a abusive marriage because society pressure to show how happy and prefect they girls leaving. Without marriage a girl cannot leave her life if she is financially capable or not its doesn't matter

Coming back to itv I think they can show different perspectives to society and audience because their shows are fictional can influence about good marriage and how it's important thier parents supporting children from walking out from a abusive marriage and abusive family members

Domestic violence, abuse and infidelity are not the only reasons why marriages break. Not every fight leaves a visible scar. There are many more things that can go wrong between a married couple that only the rest of the world can't see. Sometimes, two people realize they're just not compatible.

The scenario is the same in rural and urban regions, with no exceptions; both educated and very modern individuals are committing atrocities against new brides or wives after a few decades.

ITV serials are adding glamour to such atrocities against women and brides!
