Chapter 07
Kalyani by the time had come to the main road and was looking for a rickshaw. Malhar's jeep stopped exactly beside her scaring her with the sudden break.
''Jeep mein baitho main chodh dunga"
"Nehi main rickshaw le loongi."
"Argue mat karo Kalyani please. Tum poori bheegi huyi ho, aise beech raaste khadi rahogi tum? Zukham hoga wo alag. Main chodh deta hu ghar."
Kalyani awkwardly looked at him and sat on the passenger seat.
The awkward silence took over for a couple of minutes before he started the conversation to not make it further awkward.
"Tum akeli rehti ho na?"
"Aapko kaise pata?" Kalyani looked surprised.
"Last din tumhari baatein sunke laga..."
"Hmmm..."
"Tumhare ghar wale kahan rehte hain?"
"Aurangabaad"
"Aurangabaad?!!! Arreh main bhi Aurangabaad se hu!"
"Kya? Sachh?!" Kalyani got really excited as she has always had a weak corner for her Aurangabaad and the fact that they belong from the same town made not only her but both of them happier than ever!
"Haan! Ye toh bohot badiya baat ho gayi... hum dono same jagah ke rehne wale hain"
"Tabhi humari itni banti hain." Said Kalyani in the flow and got awkward instantly.
"Accha aisa
kya?" Malhar said while smiling sheepishly.
They exchanged some more details and realised that their houses are a few minutes away from each other.
"Tumhara bachpan bhi Aurangabaad mein hi beeta hain?"
"Haan meri poori schooling Aurangabaad mein hi huyi hain. Aur aapki?"
"Haan main bhi wahin bada hua hu....Bachpan ki saari yaadein wahan se judi hain. waise, tumne Mohan kaka ke dukan ki kulfi khayi hain kabhi? Tumhare ghar ka jo location bataya wahan se bohot paas hain"
"Nehi toh! Main toh humesha ghar jaake ghoomti firti hu, next time zaroor try karungi"
"You must!!! Meri favourite hain humesha se"
"Aage se left"
"Haan?"
"Raasta... mera ghar aage se left mein hain."
"Oh....Akeli rehti ho naye sheher mein, bohot himmatwali ho sachmein. Par ghar wale raazi ho gaye thhe?"
"Mere parents ne humesha mujhe support kiya aur mere liye sabse lade hain... unhi ki wajah se aaj main yahan hu. Aur apartment ke uss side mein tanant khud hi rehti hain. So Akele nehi rehti you can say."
"That's great! Har kisiko udaan bharne ke liye aise support ki zaroorat hoti hain."
"Hmmm... mera ghar aagaya."
He stopped the and she came out.
"Thank you Malharji. Aapko khamakha takleef uthani padi...upar se hum dono hi bheege huye hain! Raste mein sab dekh rahe thhe aankhein badi badi karke"
"Mujhe koyi problem nehi hain kalyani. Hum police walo ko toh aadat hain unusual situations ki."
They exchanged a smile and she went inside. Her tanant saw her entering and made a face. "College se itni jaldi aagayi? Aur wo bhi aise bheegi huyi halat mein? Konse pahad pe gayi thi jahan baarish ho rahi thi? She mocked.
Kalyani didn't answer and just went to her room. After taking a long shower which included her crying and laundry session, she came out to discover that she just missed 2 of Malhar's calls two minutes ago.
She called him then only to see him answering the call instantly.
"Hello"
"Ji Malharji boliye..."
"Wo maine tumhe thank you bolne ke liye call kiya tha..."
"Thank you? Mujhe? Kyun?"
Kalyani said with a bit confused expression.
"Wo maine uss time tumhe pucha tha ki tum station ke bahar kya kar rahi ho tabhi tumne bataya tha ki tum mere wajah se hi aayi but tab mujhe samajh nehi aaya tha. Ab station wapas aaya toh pawar ne wo microphone wala box diya jo tumne mere liye choda tha. Thank you so much kalyani tum khamakha yahan tak ayi bas mujhe microphone dene jo mere Laparwahi ki wajah se tumhare paas reh gaya tha..."
"No problem Malharji. Aap please itne chote se baat ko lekar pareshan mat kariye khudko."
"Par Kalyani wo microphone tumhare paas kaise reh gaya?" Malhar asked with confusion.
"Wo aap kisi aur din sunn lena..." Said Kalyani before saying bye and hanging up the call.
The next two days were intriguing for Malhar as he got to know massive details about the terrorists through the chip. He along with his team has worked on this case and have got to know many shocking informations about the terrorists which even Kalyani has no idea about.
Another topic is that he has also realised that this one girl Kalyani is making him think a lot. And the scary part is that he likes thinking about her. He is getting kinda lost while thinking about her and it is definitely not coming to him in a good way.
He is fiddling with the facts that he is not like this and he is becoming like this.
But he called Kalyani today in a quite serious mood.
"Hello, Kalyani?"
"Ji Malharji"
"Wo main tumse kuch baat karna chahta tha"
"Haan boliye" Kalyani felt a little unusual hearing it.
"Actually last kuch dinon mein hi mujhe unn terrorists ke bareme bohot kuch pata chala hain. Aur jo chip tumne set ki thi do din pehle wo file bhi terrorists apne adde pe le gaye thhe kal jiski madat se maine unki saari baatein bhi sunli aur unke plans ke bareme bhi jaan liya"
Kalyani expressed her happiness "Ye toh bohot acchi baat hain"
"Haan baat to acchi hain par Aaj pata nehi kyun mujhe laga ki...laga ki unhe pata chal gaya hain ki main unhe sunn sakhta hoon aur dekh bhi sakhta hoon."
"Par unhe kaise pata chalega?"
"Pata nehi Kalyani.....shayad kisi tarha se unhe camera ke bareme pata chal gaya hain. Chip ke bareme abhi bhi shayad nehi jaante. Kyunki jab bahar se aaye members wo file leke wapas jaa rahe thhe tab wo camere ki baat kar rahe thhe aur hass rahe thhe. But jo terrorists cleaners bane huye hain unhe shayad nehi pata. It's all very puzzled.
"Bahar se aaye members matlab?"
" Oh tumhe bataya nehi but inn do dinon mein jab college band tha tab unke gang ke kuch members aaye thhe lab mein. Watchman college lock karke chala gaya tha but ye teeno cleaner ke get up mein jo terrorists thhe wo college mein hi chup gaye thhe aur unke baaki members ko bhi le aaye thhe inn do dinon mein."
Kalyani was getting amusing informations back to back.
"Kalyani kal se college reopen hoga na?"
"Haan Malharji"
"Kal unn logo ka attack hone wala hain wo bhi Hong Kong Lane mein."
"Par malharji kal toh wahan bohot bheed hogi! Hume kisi bhi halat mein ye attack rokna hoga. Aur ab toh humne unka plan bhi jaan liya hain toh aap abhi unn teeno terrorists ko arrest kyun nehi kar rahe?"
"Par unke saathiyon ko pata chal jayega aur wo log apni jagah badal lenge aur fir same haal hoga jaisa abhi hain. These three who are disguised as cleaners are just mere slaves."
He then told Kalyani to stay super alert the next day and do things Malhar asks her to do.
Kalyani was tensed about the case throughout and really wanted to ask Malhar about the further update of the case. But she knew that he was busy so she didn't want to disturb him.
She couldn't sleep properly because of worrying about the attack in the market. She then couldn't help but texted him asking about the case.
Malhar replied.
"Kalyani unhe sachmein camera ke bareme pata chal gaya hain aur isiliye unhone chemistry lab mein ek plan bataya aur private mein ek aur plan kiya aur private wala hi wo log execute karenge. Unhe chip ke bareme koyi idea nehi hain isiliye maine unka plan sunn liya through the chip but jo cleaner aka terrorists thhe, mujhe nehi lagta unhe kuch bhi pata hain real execution ke bareme. Aaj poore din kuch bhi ho sakhta hain."
The reply didn't seem to decrease her tension, rather made her panic more. Though she didn't show it on her face.
Deep in her heart, she knew she was a little more tensed about Malhar. She knew that handeling a terrorist case is not easy. He is just telling her a few parts. But the amount of struggles he and his team is facing is not something she is aware of.
"Malharji ko kitna kuch handle karna padh raha hain. Itne logo ki jaan ka sawal hain. Aur jis baat ka darr mujhe sabse zyada hain wo ye hain ki agar baaki sabki jaan dao pe lagi ho toh Malharji apni jaan khatre mein daalne se peeche nehi hatenge. Unhe apni fikar nehi hain isiliye unki fikar zyada ho rahi hain" Kalyani thought in mind.
The long day already started and Kalyani reached her college. She was continuously looking at her phone.
She knows that it's a work of the police force but she genuinely would be happy to help.
After two classes, a break took place and Kalyani suddenly got a call. She instantly answered it.
"Hello Kalyani. Uss chi..."
"Haan Malharji aap theek hain?" Kalyani didn't let him finish.
"Haan main theek hoon par meri baat Suno. Uss chip ke through humne unhe bolte suna ki bohot ek prior cheeze aaj unse choot gayi. Aur mujhe poora yakeen hain ki wo unn teeno terrorists ko andhere mein rakh rahe hain jo cleaner banke bomb banane ki taiyari kar rahe thhe tumhare college ke lab mein."
Kalyani got another revolutionary information that they were making bombs in their chemistry lab.
" Kalyani tum daro mat. Abhi lab mein koyi bhi nehi hain aur kuch bhi khataknaak nehi hain. But ek terrorist ne doosre ko kuch bataya tha likhke. Wo chit jisme likha tha wo galti se wahin choot gayi aur uss mein bohot important information thi according to them. Jis terrorist ne wo chit di thi wo daant raha hain chit chodhke aane wale ko. Tum jaake please check karo ho sakhta hain ki hume koyi saboot mil jaye."
Kalyani heard everything attentively.
"Malharji main apni poori koshish karungi uss saboot ko aap tak laane mein"
"Fikar mat karo Kalyani. Aaj hum ye attack hone nehi denge."
Kalyani smiled at his assurance and ran towards the chemistry lab. She checked every corner conscientiously.
Now Kalyani was totally restless. She didn't know what to do further as every passing minute was bringing her more distress where she didn't see any chit even after investigating the lab properly.
She came back to the class and suddenly one fact hit her mind like a storm. She again tried to rewind everything and realised that there was indeed a chit near the dustbin which was blank.
She ran back to the chemistry lab and picked that chit in a second.
Kalyani couldn't understand anything that the chit said but But the terrorists must be aware about the chemicals really nicely.
She rushed to the chemistry professor and asked her if there is a way of understanding that. The professor put some chemical in it and the paper started changing colours and they could read it gradually.
Reading that chit shocks kalyani to another extend and the moment she tried to call Malhar is the time when she realised that she had left her phone in the bag only. She started running without thinking about anything else exept malhar.
Malhar was standing in the middle of Hong Kong Lane which is a local market of Pune and where they were supposed to execute the blast.
Almost all of the terrorists were caught by the police force exept two of the "cleaners AKA terrorists". He could feel that something was wrong the other two as the other members of the terrorist group were having a peaceful smile stating that they are still upto something.
While coming from the stairs Kalyani fell miserably and her ankle got a huge cut for which, she whimpered in pain. But she just kept running till she reached her class and took her phone out of her bag and called Malhar in the quickest way possible.
"Ro..cky aur Chirag ke...jacket me..ein...ba..b...bomb...hai....Malharji" her voice came as a screech because she was too frightened and bewildered.
The whole class with the lecturer was looking at her as by that time, the class had started. Some of the students came to Kalyani to help her as she had an injury on her ankle.
Malhar didn't take more than a second to realise the whole plan as he knew the names of the terrorists by that time and realised that the other terrorists had set bombs in the jackets of the those two without telling them so that the blast takes place even if they get caught.
Though for the clever encounters and the chip, other members got caught first and the main bombs got defused by the experts. But still as Rocky and Chirag are in the middle of the crowd, other terrorists are grinning as the blast will take place in a few minutes and they are gonna be successful with their motive of blasting.
Malhar along with his trusted officer Rakesh, goes and watches the cctv footage and spots the terrorists. They were trying to hide.
Malhar asks Rakesh to find chirag and he himself found Rocky.
Malhar and Rakesh took out Rocky and Chirag's jacket out immediate and started running.
They saw that there were still 6 minutes left for the bomb to blast so they knew that they had time to throw it rather than trying to defuse. Even though both of them were injured, They threw it in the pond nearby which was filled with garbage only in 4 minutes and just started running backwards.
They made sure no animals were near the pond and they came to a good distance.
They came back to the place where rocky and chirag were captivated to the police force and heard the blast.
"Jinn sathiyo ko tum bachane ki koshish kar rahe thhe dekha unhone kya kiya? Ye hain unki asliyat aur ye hain terrorists ki sacchayi. Arreh tumhe maarne wale log toh tumhare marne ke baad tumhari family ko bhi bechke apna pet bharenge."
"Matlab?" Said Rocky
"Unlogo ne tum dono ke jackets mein bomb set kiye thhe taaki tum dono jahan bhi raho market ke, wahan hi blast ho jaye." Said Rakesh.
"Jo plan tumhe humesha se bataya gaya tha wo unn logo ko kabhi execute karna hi nehi tha. Unlogo ko bass pata chal gaya tha ki chemistry lab mein cameras fit kiye hain police force ne isiliye unn logo ne tumhe galat information di taaki tum uss according steps lo wahan aur hume koyi shak na ho."
Rocky and Chirag realised how big of a mistake it was to be a terrorist but it was too late for them. All the terrorists were taken to the jail.
Malhar, Rakesh and some otter officers were wounded went to the hospital for the first aid.
There in the college, the situation was heated up too as everyone was asking Kalyani about what she said in the phone.
The principal came and realised that it must be about the terrorist attack. He told the students to not ask Kalyani further and to take her to the medical room of the college.
The news of the terrorists getting caught was spread to the whole city and Kalyani's classmates are guessing that she must have some connection with the case as she was also talking about bomb in the phone call.
The dressing of Kalyani's ankle was done. The principal came and gave her some words of appreciation because of her fearless spirit.
"Main zyada to nehi jaanta par Mujhe itna zaroor pata hain ki iss case ke solve hone ke peeche tumhara bhi bohot contribution hain Kalyani. I am so proud of you."
"Sir terrorists pakde gaye? Sare officers theek hain? Aur Malh...I mean acp sir aur baaki team salamat toh hain?"
"Haan Kalyani. Police force ne bohot bravery ke saath unn saare terrorists ko dhoond nikala aur unke plan ko kamyab nehi hone diya. Abhi officers first aid ke liye hospital gaye hain. Main Acp Rane se hi milne jaa raha hoon."
"Sir main bhi please aapke saath chal sakhti hoon hospital?"
"Haan chalo par tumhare pairon mein toh ye bandage hain? Tumhe abhi thoda aaram karna chahiye beta"
"Nehi sir main bilkul theek hoon."
Malhar had a huge bruise on the shoulder so the doctor checked his wound and the nurse did the proper dressing.
Malhar leaned on the head rest and saw the principal coming with Kalyani.
Even though he was exhausted, an instant sparkle came in his eyes after seeing her there.
He greeted the principal and the moment he saw the bandage on her leg, he straight away shot his questions like bullets
"Kalyani tumhe ye chot kaise lagi? Tum aise kyun chal rahi hon?chalne mein kitni dikkat ho rahi hain. Tum baitho pehle."
Malhar asked her to sit on the sofa and the principal also sat on the chair beside Malhar.
"Nehi Malharji ye chhoti si chot hain. Aur bas thoda ruk ruk-ke chalna padh raha hain baaki ye bhi theek ho jayega 2/3 dinon mein."
"Par tumhe ye chot lagi kaise?"
" Haan Kalyani ye toh hume bhi nehi pata ki ye chot tumhe lagi kaise" the principal expressed his curioucity.
"Wo hua yun tha ki..." Kalyani explained that she had forgotten her phone in the class when she had gone back after not finding anything in the lab. Then how she was coming back to the floor where her class was, to take her phone and call Malhar immediately and how a sharp object had hit her ankle.
"Thoda sambhalke bhi to chal sakhti thi na? Aise Bhaga dodhi karke aane ki kya zaroorat hain?
"Yahan pe bomb blast ka sawal tha aur aapko mere pairon ki padhi hain? Kalyani made a face.
Malhar didn't argue further as the principal could already sense that they both had already bonded well.
The principal finally got the chance to start his conversation
"We are so proud of you Mr. Rane. Poore sheher mein aapke force ki charcha hain aaj. Hume aap sabke bahaduri pe bohot naaz hain."
Kalyani's heart was filled with some unknown feeling of ecstacy hearing the good words about Malhar. She was smiling widely. Malhar was smiling too but probably after seeing her smile only.
"Thank you principal sir. Humare police force ne bohot mehnat ki iss case mein par Kalyani ke bina ye case solve karna humare liye kabhi bhi easy nehi hota. I know kuch dinon baad hum terrorists ka location shayad dhoond lete par jis bahaduri aur nishtha ke saath Kalyani ne humari madat ki overall case mein, uske liye wo bhi humare jitni hi hakdaar hain inn taarifon ki."
His words made Kalyani soo overwhelmed and she was just standing there while soaking all the happiness bubbling inside her.
"Haan maine bhi socha hain ki kuch din baad college ke fascilitation programme mein hum Kalyani ko bravery medal denge aur ussdin aapko zaroor aana padega Mr. Rane."
Malhar nodded in affirmation and smiled.
The principle took leave after a few more small talks.
Though they both wanted to atleast talk freely but couldn't as they didn't feel comfortable enough in front of the principal and Kalyani left with the principal only to avoid any further awkwardness in front of principal sir.
