I liked s1 as that was one of the rare shows my family would watch, even my cousins who hated itv shows only watched balh s1 too. i didnt understand shows much back then, but i liked the episodes even though i watched it sometimes. i cant remember much about episodes before they got married, but after they got married, though priya n ram married for their siblings just like this season they both had respect for each other even though they wont have even imagined marrying each other before that(same as this season)
plus that time leap after seperation and united by the kid was kinda a different idea not an overused idea hence ppl liked the show, as it was heart-warming and kinda unique. I did not watch S1 coz back then mom used to watch shows on Star mostly and then Colors. At that time I remember watching only PKYEK which was surprisingly decent despite being a supernatural EK show and a youth oriented one at that. Then I saw MB (till the leap happened) coz I was crazy about Vivian D'Sena. Saw PKDH along with mom. So I guess BALH1 aired at the same time. Not sure. But my friends and even cousins had raved about it but couldn't watch since mom used to watch some other show on another channel and back then you didn't have streaming platforms to watch online. But I knew about the storyline and few characters and had seen very few scenes. I saw Baarish later on and loved it. When S2 came, I wanted to watch it only for NaSha but couldn't for some reasons. Now when I started watching S2, I saw few episodes and scenes from S1 and was pleasantly surprised to see how progressive it was back then. U did have cliched villains like the step mom, step brother and Priya's own sister. You know scheming, plotting and what not? But a decade ago, people watched it for all this drama. Unfortunately they still do coz thats the only explanation y shows like Bhagyas rule the TRP charts or even nonsensical shows like GHKPM and Imlie 🤢
but now in this modern era ppl started to like realistic things more as its more connected and many tracks like the leap are overused in itv already hence it is not surprising ppl couldnt connect to the show after the leap. however what made the difference is in first season there was no hatred in these 5 years gap and both characters stayed true to themselves (though the pre-leap was highly unrealistic, priya assumed dead in a car accident, priya was in coma for 2 weeks, then went to dubai etc) but it wasnt toxic. unlike this season the characters didnt stay true to themselves hence its not relatable anymore to the fans of this shows , ram hates priya a lot (only difference here the pre leap scenario was a bit more real, priya served her punishment in jail for 2 years n then she went places to places as it was hard for a convict to stay, but problem its very toxic cause of the hate ram has for priya) Even in S1 few things were not realistic. Like how did Priya manage to go to Dubai? When she went to jail, I am sure she left her belongings with Ram. You need a passport first and how can a dead person get visa and someone with a criminal background 😆 And living in Dubai is no joke. She didn't have any money first of all. She didn have any jewels to sell or property coz if she had tried to sell then Ram would have known about it. And unlike in S2 where Priya had a friend like Krish who is a PI and who could help her settle down and live an anonymous life, in S1 Priya had no one. How did she manage medical expenses during her pregnancy? She seemed to be in a decent accommodation too. But still keeping aside these unrealistic things S1 was better. Coz Ram and Priya never parted on bitter note. They continued to love each other. And the bond which Ram Pihu shared before he got to know she was his daughter would literally pull your heartstrings. But here Ram has been so nasty to that kid, you will wish he never got to know about her. In S1 after Ram gets to know about Priya and Pihu, you could understand his anger and bitterness towards Priya for keeping his daughter away from him. But here Priya herself lies about the paternity of her child which was sick. I wish the pregnancy never came out or if Priya found out, she kept it a secret. And Ram toh has been so inconsistent. He vows he trusts her more than anyone in the world, more than his family. Technically speaking after marriage, she is his family and a top priority at that. Your parents will eventually part with you, your siblings will go their own way and so do your children. But a good partner always will stand by you. But this guy lets his family manipulate him. I wont speak about the time when Shivi died. Coz I get it he was not in the right frame of mind. But talking about all those years he lived with them.
if balhs2 ran for 100-150 episodes personally i feel it would have been considered better than s1 and baarish. i remember reading a review by a critic on balhs2 first week episode and he mentioned the show was good and had potential to surprass its original. if makers sticked to their original plan of this being a finite series/like a web series this show could have done wonders. I will still say I find the OTT version better 😆 Less torture for one and even when MU happened, it felt organic and not out of place. The way the S2 was shot itself was so impressive in the early days. They could have shown MS to be a nasty person and stopped at that. Him being a horrible father was enough of a reason for Ram to go against him in the future. First of all no father is so horrible they will wish such bad things for their child. Max they can be indifferent but purposely ruining the life of ur own daughter who is ur flesh and blood? It was too much. And y turn VK's death into a center theme for this story? RaYa were already connected by their siblings and that was enough. They could have shown Shivi's immaturity leading to the downfall of her marriage and maybe shown it in a more realistic way than S1. I liked how Priya in S2 never got too lovey dovey even after consummation whereas Ram being the romantic fool he was, neve left an opportunity to express his love. They could have focused on just building the journey of these two characters. But instead they spend 90% of the time tackling conspiracies hatched by either MS, Neeraj or Raj from Priya's side or Nandu, Shubhu and Vedu from Ram's side. This show could have been a masterpiece but alas its another opportunity laid to waste.
