Yes, before the confession, there was a lot of "spark" but then I would like to see it as a slow burn sort of romance to get us all hooked to this pair (also to show how they fall for each other "organically" - Smitha, your fav word πŸ˜†)

I wouldn't say that post wedding, it has gotten "dull" or something as such, but I feel they have become more comfortable and better companions (which is not too bad a thing. I mean for relationships to last, it is just not love but also all these small things no?)

I feel that she is somewhere scared of emoting or showing her feelings towards Anuj cus khushiyon ko nazar etc and her charac is always been such - because of her past and SH.

This guy goes all out to show that she means the world to him, maybe that will slowly rub off on her - but yea a long way to go.

But then for me, that's what makes it special. Him loving her more will always be there and i'm kinda ok with that. Provided, they don't spoil this equation any further.

im mid 30s as well..what do you find relatable about them? the every day mundane stuff ?

re the slow burn, i thought that this was the route they were going but when she found out that he loved her things just fizzled out from there.

after reading your post, im stuck between a couple of things :

- do i not understand the characterization ? is this anupamaa joshi "in love" ?

- if Bae wasnt so hot, would i care that they had no chemistry (i.e. if the role was being played by Varun Bhadola or Sumeet Raghavan - it was rumored at the time that there were being considered)

That said, I haven't seen IPKKD ( clearly my loss - shall be remedied) but as far as MaAn are concerned, the potential was always there:

But the age, maa, chabbis saal was flogged to death and somewhere we were constantly reminded of it and they too were TOOO bound by pointless shackles. Within the constraints we saw some sparks.

1) Witness the Holi scene, but I think that was the only one where both were allowed to display that "sulagti tadap". Except for this one time, she has never looked at him with that yearning, desire, passion. AK's been carrying the mantle of passion on his v able shoulders, biceps etc.

2) Him confessing his love multiple times in multiple contexts was all hot. But she didn't seem worthy of it. Because she just didn't get it and still doesn't .

3) When he takes her pallu from her waist at some function and walks her Outta the kitchen.

But again like Smita and Ali said, that was him, not them.

For me, he's been the hook and now that he is no longer allowed to play to his strengths or the character arc which is etched in our heads, the magic is gone.

It's like the pixies came and deposited some magic dust on Sep 2nd and gave us a real Prince Charming w JUSSST the right kind and quantity of machismo, humor, swag and EQ. BUT Christmas onwards, it's been downhill. I did not feel anything during the long drawn out confession (gaana, grow old, dance competition etc), shaadi karoongi hug etc.

Like Ali and Smita said, an organic evolution was never allowed. Gaurav Khanna can be a great romantic ML if paired w the right person and story.

The characters have to retain their essence and AL's has been butchered. A woman can be strong and a man can be strong alone and then together in a rship. Here the BoP is always skewed.

My two pennies in this long rant. I was upset initially w AK's track going askew but now just cudnt be bothered.

I do miss the restless wait for Sunny's review and then the long drawn out DBT.

Excellently analysed πŸ‘

In particular, your observation in point 2. You just don't ever get the feeling that she truly get it, or will ever get it. She appreciates it, yes. But, that's about it.

For your memory of Sunny's thread and the DBT :)

PS - I hope you do watch IPK, would love to know what you feel ❀️

Its very very inconsistent and patchy.

And its lacking from both their ends right now.

The truly heart touching moments were confession and dance competition- but that was more emotional than chemistry.

Chemistry-

1. that bike ride ❀️❀️ The way she looked at him and snuggled up to him was so raw, that is the first time I saw real spark from her end.
2. date night- they were both on fire. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

3. Car scene post marriage- fireworks again ✨✨

4. The post honeymoon cheek kiss- her body language and his expressions were sizzling πŸ’«πŸ’«

Other than that- not really. You guys are right, she looks at him with a very platonic kind of love. And he doesn’t gaze at her the way he used to before. It feels rehearsed and serial-ish, not organic.

@bold - Spot on ❀️

All those moments you've mentioned now end up feeling like aberrations, don't they :(

Do you remember Slogan: β€œ tum mujhe khoon do, mai tumhe aajaadi doonga.

For me MaAn’s Chemistry is like:

You grind almonds, I will make almond milk

You knead the dough, I will make thepla

You dust and sweep, I will wipe the floor

you seedi pakdo, I will saaf karo fans

You papad banao, mai sukhaoonga

At dining table, Mai pahataphat bana laata hoon.

It seems now Anuj is Anupama.

According to me, 2 people, 2 diff personalities, and different identities, but Anuj is losing his identity and he behaves like a sanskari bahu. Even sanskari bahu does notdo like his. Everything seems fake and OTT.

Ghar ke kaam ke alawa exercise kar lo saath me; celebrities ke yoga poses saath mei kymast hote hai, isse acchi physical exercise kuch ho sakti hai. Double caloriesburn. Anuj ne shaadi ke baad newspaperbhi dekhna chod diya. Ab woh toh ho hi nahi sakta, Anu nahi padti na.

The chemistry before property transfer to Mukku was amazing, superb. Their eyes speak louder than words. ( Ab dono milkarparivaar par aurat par essay sunate rehte hai) . Without touch and kissingscenes, there was some magic, there was really kuch kuch hota hai waali feeling, πŸ’›πŸ§‘πŸ’™I had butterflies in my stomach. It used to transport me to dreamy land and it was like koi fark nahi padta bahar kya ho raha hai, mast apne world mei.😍😘πŸ₯°

May be more than romance, I want to see a somewhat little bit close to reality or expecting Anuj to behave like a normal person, not as a follower of Anupama, treating Anu as wife, not as some baby doll or his daughter. Who says to wife β€œprincess β€œ , Babe, baby bolna nahi samajh mei aata toh kuch aur bol le.

Nobody can match up with ArShi when it comes to chemistry, IMO.

When it comes to MaAn, the answer is yes and no. There is chemistry but it's the writing that is letting it down! GauRup are so good in the reels! It's not that they don't have chemistry! It's the makers obsession with dadi ki shadi/middle age/mid life crisis that is hampering the chemistry. The only thing which remained untouched with this obsession was the shayari. Ab toh unka bhi kabada kar diya! I was expecting post wedding shayaris will be more romantic! Aankhon me aankhein dalkar shayari padhi jayegi yahan pe toh man me bol rahe hain! What was that mang me sindoor hai toh haath pakadne ka haq hai crap at the beach?! It's like they deliberately don't want maAn to have sizzling chemistry. Look at the sbs/sbb holi segment. It was so hot! But they chopped off the scene. In recent episodes the car scene post wedding was amazing! But they keep oscillating Anupama between sharmana and boldness which is a major put off. So I won't blame the actors.

It so it, Noorie

"Jisski sirf ek nazar se khud ke hone ka ehsaas hua" - this line from the Heer Ranjha scene says it all, doesn't it 😍

Sloppy writing is the fundamental problem all along, I agree. Gentle oscillations showing her conflicts initially were fine. But, the ridiculous wild swinging later was annoying.

Noorie, I'll satisfy my shayari cravings with the ones you write πŸ€— now that Shayar Kapadia Anupama banne mein vyast hai πŸ˜†
