The release next week Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is emerging one of the most important films if not THE most important in recent history. The box office is in the doldrums and the industry needs hope from somewhere as many theories do the rounds as to why films are collecting so badly (Testing Times For The Industry But It Was Coming).

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is also not that big event film or larger than life cinema but the difference between this film and most of the others of the last six months is that it is more audience friendly and is offering some entertainment which the industry hopes will translate into some numbers.

The opening day is the most important for the industry as if the audience comes then it gives hope that cinema is not all about that big event film as you need others to work as well. The industry has got ahead of itself expecting 10-12 crore nett opening day as that will be the top end result for the film and looking at how films are opening you cannot expect top end results as there is likely to be disappointment..

This week the industry was expecting a 6-7 crore nett number from Jayeshbhai Jordaar but that again will probably be too much as the film is depending on the Saturday audience for a pick up and these films just dont get a Friday audience. There is a box office downward correction for the present content being dished out and that has to be there in expectations. A realistic number for Bhool Bhulaiyaa is probably 8 crore nett and anything above will be a bonus. This will mean smaller medium films can still get decent opening days as long as they cater to the mass audience and that itself will be a relief as how many event films can come in a year. If an 8 crore nett plus number comes then there will basically be a sigh of relief across the major production houses.

Obviously everyone is hoping the film goes on and does well post the first day but that first day is crucial as the industry has to see an audience coming to boost the morale and if the film opens at 5 or 6 crore nett then the industry will not know where to look and where to go. So although this film is a general horror comedy film the importance of this film is huge and all eyes will be on it as soon as the first ticked is sold in advance. 

The film has stars like Kartik Aryan and Kiara Advani but eventually its relying on a 15 year blockbuster song which has turned out to be a HIT again and that hope the industry has from this film is a lot to do with the song whether people admit or not. So after all that inspiration coming from Hollywood, Europe and Korea for the last twenty years its actually something from the roots of Hindi cinema that the industry is actually relying on.

It is also about time that the industry lets there be organic appreciation from the public. A day before the trailer came out there was the usual stuff from media how great it is, winner, sure shot blockbuster and all that but when the trailer hits its not to this level for the audience because you have hyped the expectations. If the public gave the first response it would have been an organic response and the trailer would have got more appreciation as its pretty decent trailer.
