Lucknow Super Giants VS Chennai Super Kings

The seventh match of the TATA IPL 2022 will see the clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings.

Lucknow Super Giants will be squaring off against Chennai Super Kings for the first time in the seventh match of this season of the Tata IPL.

Lucknow Super Giants played their last game against Gujarat Titans where Gujarat Titans beat them by 5 wickets. Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni smashed 55 runs and 54 runs respectively for Lucknow Super Giants in that game.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings played their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders where Kolkata Knight Riders beat them by 6 wickets. MS Dhoni smacked 50 runs while Dwayne Bravo grabbed 3 wickets for Chennai Super Kings.

Both the teams lost their respective first games in this tournament, so both will look to win this one.

LSG and Chennai Super Kings will both look to bounce back from disappointing opening defeats in the Indian Premier League match today. 

While Ravindra Jadeja saw his first game as captain of a senior team end in a tame 6 wicket defeat  at the hands Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), KL Rahul was at the receiving end of a 5 wicket defeat  in the ‘battle of debutants’ as Gujarat Titans (GT) got their IPL journey off to a winning start.

Lucknow saw their top-order completely collapse at the Wankhede Stadium after being asked to bat first by GT. Rahul (0), Quinton de Kock (7), Evin Lewis (10) and Manish Pandey (6) all had an evening to forget. However, Deepak Hooda and 22-year-old rising star Ayush Badoni both scored fighting half-centuries to give their team something to defend.

However, a total of just 158 was never going to be enough and despite Dushmanta Chammera’s excellent spell of 2/22, LSG finished on the losing side courtesy of a blistering knock from Rahul Tewatia --40 off 24 balls.

Lokesh Rahul is a right-handed batsman from Lucknow Super Giants who leads the team. He got out on a duck in the last game but can score big in the upcoming match.

Deepak Hooda is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler from Lucknow Super Giants. He hammered 50 runs and took 1 wicket in the last match and can come in handy here.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is a right-handed batsman from Chennai Super Kings who opens the innings for them. He got out on a duck in the last game but can score some handy runs in the upcoming match.

Ravindra Jadeja is a left-handed batsman and left-arm orthodox spinner from Chennai Super Kings. He smashed 26 runs in the last match and will be hoping to make a significant impact here.

MS Dhoni is a right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman from Chennai Super Kings. He stacked 50 runs in the last game and will be hoping for something similar here as well.

Considering the team combination, Chennai Super Kings is expected to win this match. 

LSG will be looking to improve on their top-order’s batting performance and also tighten their bowling as Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Hooda all proved to be expensive.

Chennai suffered a similar fate in their opening day defeat to KKR as their top-order of Ruturaj Gaikwad (0), Devon Conway (3), Robin Uthappa (28) and Ambati Rayudu (15) all failed to make a significant impact on the score. Moreover, all-rounder Shivam Dube had another forgettable outing, scoring 3 and conceding 11 from his solitary over.

MS Dhoni’s 38-ball half-century and DJ Bravo’s spell of 3/20 highlighted CSK’s reliance on their ageing stalwarts. The youngsters will need to step up if they wish to retain the title this year. The champions will get a much-needed boost though by the availability of both Moeen Ali and Dwaine Pretorius who missed their opening day defeat.

CSK and  LSG both endured losses in their opening matches of IPL 2022. While it was a crushing 6-wicket defeat for CSK against Kolkata Knight Riders, LSG lost an edge-of-the-seat thriller to Gujarat Titans. A common factor in their defeats was the failure of the top-order, and Chennai as well as Lucknow would look to correct that at the Brabourne Stadium when they square off on Thursday.

Interestingly, the first four matches in this year’s IPL have been won by teams chasing and it is evident that dew is playing a factor in the outcome of matches. Both CSK and LSG lost their opening games after batting first, and they are likely to prefer the chase if the coin falls in their favour.
