I loved the movie. Before watching it I expected the film to be overly preachy with loud monologues. But I was positively surprised by the nuanced way in which the makers depicted how women are taken for granted in their roles as mothers, wives and daughters.
Taapsee who gets criticized for her similar Delhi accent wali acting is refreshingly muted yet resilient in her portrayal of Amu- her best work till date IMO.
The ending scene had me in tears with the two cars leaving in different directions from the family court and the ex-spouses breaking down as they separate 😭
However, I do have a criticism for the film. They marketed it as if it was just a slap that resulted in the divorce and Amu falling out of love with her husband. However, it is made clear in the story that her relationship with her husband was never one of equality. She is always shown taking care of her husband and his family, while he paid her little attention as was most of the time engrossed in his own career. The slap only acted like a wake-up call for Amu to acknowledge everything that was wrong with the relationship. So it was not "just a slap".
