I'll Be There For You - ShiVi TS (Complete)

Posted: 2 years ago

For anyone who LIKES Dhara, Suman, this story is NOT for you.

"Raavi!" Shiva called out, as he entered the house after a long day at the store. He was solely responsible for managing the Somnath Branch while Gaumbi managed the branch in the neighbouring city. Within a few months, hopefully, Shiva would shift to handle that branch, as Gaumbi would need to be near Dhara for her final trimester.

After a long tedious year, their house had been showered upon with blessings. The happiest people were definitely parents-to-be, but even more excited were Shiva Chachu and Krish Chachu. For reasons that were obvious.

He was eagerly looking forward to having dinner, because today was a Saturday and Raavi had definitely cooked something she had experimented with. He couldn't wait to taste it, and it was already 10 pm, she'd be waiting and he didn't like to keep her waiting so long.

Shiva washed his hands and feet, calling out for his chipkali, but she didn't seem to be answering. No one did. Was there no one at home?

He smelt something weird, but ignored it and walked past the aangan to the bedroom. Strangely, something caught his attention in the corner of his eye.

Shiva's head snapped towards the smoke coming out of the kitchen, and he didn't know when he started to run towards it, panicking.

His heart almost stopped at the sight before him.

Raavi laid there unconscious, as whatever she was trying to make, burnt away on the gas. Smoke filled the entire kitchen, and breathing in that closed space was near to impossible.

"RAAVI!" Shiva rushed beside her, patting her cheek, trying to get her to open her eyes.

She didn't.

He first turned off the gas, and opened all possible windows and doors, to get the smoke out. He sat back next to her, sprinkling water to get her to open her eyes.

"Ae chipkali! Uth na!" He said, continuously patting her cheeks and rubbing her hands.

Ye aise behosh kaise ho gayi? Aur ghar pe koi hai nahi kya? Isse kuch ho jaata toh?

He put one arm under her neck, and the other under her legs, picking her up and taking her to the aangan, as she laid limp in his arms. He placed her on the sofa and called out for her again.

"Raavi? Raavi! Aankhen khol!" Shiva said, panic-stricken, his breath getting caught in his throat with every passing second that she didn't open her eyes.

But that phase didn't last long, as she slowly but tiredly, opened her eyes to look into his onyx eyes.

The knot in his heart eased and he sighed with relief as she blinked a few times, and her broken voice croaked "Shiva"

"Thank god. Mai abhi aaya, haa? Aankhen band mat karna, upar taaron ko dekh aur unhe gin. Mai 2 minute mein aaya, bas do minute. Tu taare gin" He caressed her head, and left, walking back within minutes with a tray of fruits and a glass of water which he kept on the small table in front of them.

He asked her to sit up. Which she failed at. Miserably. She was exceptionally weak today for some reason. Shiva helped her up, as she weakly leaned her entire self into the side of his body, as he sat beside her.

Shiva kept the plate on his lap, and put one arm around her to support her. She was frail, but that didn't mean she weighed like a flower.

She was a dinosaur. His dinosaur.

"Gadhedi! Akal ki dushman! Aise kaise khaana banate banate GIR GAYI?!" Shiva yelled, as Raavi flinched. "Kitchen me agar aag lagti, aur mai nahi aata, TOH TERA KYA HOTA , HAA?" He raised his voice some more, while stuffing some fruit into her mouth.

"Chilla mat, please. Sar phate jaa raha hai mera" Raavi held her head, that was currently in the gap between Shiva's shoulder and body.

Shiva squeezed his eyes shut. Pagal. Gadheda. "Sorry." He mumbled, making her drink a glass of water, which she quietly gulped down.

"Kya hua tujhe? Aise behosh hoke padi kyu thi kitchen mein? Kitchen ke tiles se itna pyaar hai kya tujhe?" He smirked at his own joke.

Maybe he is secretly funny.

But Raavi didn't catch his sarcastic tone, as she mumbled a small "Pehli baar nahi hua hai ye."

It took him exactly 11 seconds, and his attention snapped back to what she said, "Kya matlab pehli baar nahi hua hai? Raavi?!" He shook her gently, but she didn't wake up.

She fell asleep, and was cutely snoring away in his arms.

"Chipkali?" He called out for her one more time, as she snored away.

Shiva carried her back to their room, and covered her with a blanket while she lay there in a deep sleep.

Kal baat kar lunga isse. Pata nahi kya ho gaya. Gadhedi ne mujhe unn 10 minute me swarg ka sair kara diya. Iss mami ki behen ki beti ka mai kya karu?

Khair. Jo hai, jaisi hai, ab teri hai lifetime ke liye.

He smiled at his wife's sleeping figure, and went to fix up something for himself.

....

Raavi woke up with a heavy head, and looked around. The moonlight from the window shone into the room, illuminating a small patch of floor. The light also lit up the wall clock, which read 2:30 pm as Raavi squinted her eyes further to adjust to the dark.

Did she have another fainting episode? This is the third time this week. Something has to be done. But how did she reach the room, she was sure she had been heating food for Shiva?

Shiva. Shiva.

Her thoughts were broken as she heard a soft snore from her side. Her husband was sleeping away, lying on his stomach, face towards her, as he held her pinky finger in his, with that little pout on his lips and his messy hair that somehow always covered his eyes.

She just admired him. This is not the same Shiva who would relentlessly insult her and throw her out of the house.

This was an upgraded Shiva. Nothing about him was majorly different. He still fought with her like cats and dogs. He still wore the same shirts, the same vests, had the same behaviour. They still bickered over the pettiest of matters. But he was softer. More caring. He was very secretive when it came to his care. As if he didn't want her to know it was him.

There were times where Raavi had woken up to a cup of tea by her bedside, or sometimes a plate of breakfast, because she slept in until 11.

Or even the time where she had been blatantly cribbing about her painful cramps, and conveniently the fridge would be stocked by chocolates.

Specifically, the chocolates that no one else in the house liked except her.

After a particularly nasty fight with Shiva, where he tore up her favourite dupatta that was lying outside in the hall in anger, Raavi yelled at him and went crying into her room, not opening the door for anyone. It was her mother's dupatta. It was special to her.

2 weeks later, she found the same dupatta back in her cupboard, stitched up neatly, as if it had never been tampered with.

One time, she was in the middle of completing her college assignment presentation at midnight, and she dozed off. When she woke up and panicked about it not being completed on time, she found the presentation ready, and exactly how she expected it to be. Info, graphs, everything.

And when she went to ask him, he'd deny it every time, saying Dhara bhabhi did it.

His patent dialogue was, "Main kyu karunga tere liye? Tu koi phool kumari hai, ki teri har baat yaad rahegi mujhe aur mai teri itni care karu? Mai ye pati pati nahi khelunga, mujhse kuch expect mat kar"

A small smile crept up her lips, as she reached forward and brushed away the hair falling on his eyes. Her touch startled him awake and he sat up in a jiffy, turning on all lights.

"Ae chipkali, bhootni ki tarah mandra kyu rahi hai? Theek hai tu? Raat ko jaagran kyu kar rahi hai." Shiva gruffly said, but only Raavi knew the worry that he masked.

"50 baar bolu kya? Theek hu mai, kuch nahi hua hai mujhe. Kyu khamakha tension leta hai?" Raavi huffed.

"Mai, aur teri tension? Kyu lu? Tu koi rajkumari hai, jo mai din raat teri fikar karu?" He narrowed his eyes.

"Mat kar fikar. Maine pucha fikar karne ko? Aadhi raat ko bhi jhagda hi karna hai tujhe. Uff. Tu thakta nahi hai kya?" Raavi retorted.

"Bachpan se tere saath ladai kar raha hu, itni jaldi haarunga nahi tujhse." Shiva one-upped her.

"Tu baaz nahi aayega, pisaach kahinka" Raavi huffed, and gathered her pillow, and hastily got up to leave.

Only to see the room spinning, and she swore she could see stars swimming in front of her eyes, as she stumbled back down, and held her head in her hands.

"Ae Raavi, kya hua hai?" Shiva shifted to sit beside her, his tone taking a complete 360° turn from before.

"Shiva, kuch nahi. Bas jaldi jaldi mein uth gayi thi isliye chakkar aa gaya hoga" She said guiltily, knowing that wasn't the reason, finding her chest constricting into knots.

How will I tell him?

"Bakwaas bandh kar. Jab mai ghar pe aaya, tab bhi behosh padi thi. Kuch hua hai kya?" He enquired, molding into a protective stance.

"Zyaada mat soch, nahi hua kuch." Raavi said, irritated by the fact that a sob was making it's way through her throat.

She didn't want him to know anything. The last person she wants to be rebuked by is him. She's got enough of that crap lately.

"Aakhri baar puch raha hu, teri tabiyat theek hai? Doctor ko bulaau?" Shiva said, reaching for his phone.

Raavi had had it. "EK BAAR KAHA NA MAI THEEK HU, MATLAB THEEK HU. BAAR BAAR PUCHNE SE MERA JAWAAB NAHI BADLEGA!" She yelled, eyes going red and tears stinging the back of her eyes.

She crumpled her self into a shell, hugging her legs closer to her chest, and resting her head on her knees. She was shaking, sweating, and the sobs made their way out of her throat.

It was getting difficult to breathe, and she gasped for air, her sobs growing louder and her body raking itself. She could hear her name being called out, but the noise in her head muffled it effectively.

She had been holding herself together for too long, and she couldn't anymore. Just when she thought she'd drown into a never-ending darkness, a pair of arms engulfed her, running down her spine and caressing her head.

'Shhhh. Tu theek hai.' She heard the baritone voice. 'Mai hu yaha, kuch nahi hoga tujhe. Mere saath saans le. Breathe in. Out.' She did as told, and one knot in her chest eased.

'Meri baaton pe dhyaan de. Tu bohot strong hai. Ekdum fighter types. Tujhe maine taare ginne bola tha? Kitne gine?' She remembered counting upto 60 stars before being fed with fruits. Another knot opened.

'Tujhe woh school ka camp yaad hai, jaha tune woh Kuch Kuch Hota Hai ka sardar baccha banne ki acting ki thi? Sar pe towel baandh ke aa gayi kyuki tujhe pagdi bandhne nahi aayi.' She chuckled at this memory.

'Aur toh aur, woh camp ke baad tune basketball khelna chalu kar diya, tu chahti thi ki teri life puri ki puri woh movie jaisi ho. Full gadhedi tu. Puri ki puri." His hand rubbed up and down her spine in an attempt to calm her, he spoke to her to distract her.

'Lekin tujhe yaad dila du, ki pura time mai tere saath hi tha, chahe tu kitne bhi gadhedi jaise harkat kare. Waise hi, mai tere saath abhi bhi hu, okay? Kahi nahi jaa raha hu.'

With that, the final knot in her chest eased open and she opened her eyes to see the voice that pulled her out of that dark pit.

Raavi felt the cocoon of warmth leave her surroundings, and looked straight at Shiva, who was just looking at her with concerned eyes.

He didn't utter a word, in the fear that something he said would trigger an attack again. So he just looked at her expectantly, hoping she'd give him an explanation to her behaviour.

10 minutes passed, and Raavi had had 3 glasses of water to calm her nerves. She knew Shiva expected her to speak, but she didn't know where to start. What would she say, would he even listen?

He wouldn't. Because it was about Dhara and Suman. How would she tell him what they put her through?

Someone had to know, might as well be Shiva. Raavi sucked in a breath, and began to say something, but she stammered, "Shiva.... Woh... Main bol rahi thi ki.... Actually."

Shiva's eyes softened. She was trying really hard, but she was barely able to form sentences.

"Mai thak gayi hu, Shiva." Raavi finally said.

Shiva sighed, and gave her a small smile. "Chal theek hai, so jaa. Kal baat karenge" He got up to leave, but felt Raavi's hand on his.

"Mai ghar ke kaam karke thak gayi hu Shiva."

Shiva sat back down, and pulled her closer to him, so that they both were sitting cross legged and their knees were on top of the other.

He gently held her hands, unconsciously drawing small circles over her wrist, which calmed Raavi down, to her surprise.

"Tu meri puri baat sunega? Bina meri baat kaat ke?" Raavi asked meekly.

Shiva nodded his head, before going still at her next question.

"Chahe woh Dhara Di aur Suman Kaki ke baare me hi kyu na ho?"

The usual anger bubbled up inside him at the mention of his bhabhi and maa. No one was allowed to speak wrongly about them in his presence, let alone complain about them.

But Shiva gave it a thought. Raavi is just like him. She loves them both as much as he does. Surely, she wouldn't simply say something like this without reason.

Shiva nodded, and he was sure he heard her sigh of relief.

"Shiva, tujhe mere pure din ka routine pata hai? Tujhe kya lagta hai, mai kya karti hu?" Raavi asked him, and his eyes widened.

Maine kuch nahi kaha isse, aise kyu puch rahi hai ye?

"Tujhe kuch nahi bol rahi, just general sawaal tha. Subah jab 7 baje alarm bajta hai na, toh naha dhoke mai sabse pehle breakfast banane baith jaati hu. 9:00 baje tak sab uthkar khaa lete hai, aur phir tu store ke liye nikal jaata hai"

"Phir mujhe breakfast ke bartan saaf karke, ghar saaf karna hota hai, kapde dhone padte hai. Pure 2-3 ghante jaate hai, meri peeth bhi akad jaati hai, lekin mai ruk nahi sakti. Kyuki Dhara Di help ke liye bula leti hai, yaa phir Maa ki help karni hoti hai"

"Jab tak mai saans lene baithti hu, lunch banake bhejna hota hai mujhe tere liye store pe, ussi time baaki ghar waalo ke liye bhi lunch tayyar karti hu. Khaane ke baad waapas bartan"

"Phir mai sochti hu, ki thoda araam kar lu, toh Kaki ya Di ko meri zaroorat hoti hai. Mai kabhi bhi araam karne baith jaau, tab. Chalo theek hai, mai toh bhi unke saath jaati hu, chahe woh kaki ko mandir ke jaana ho ya Dhara di ki evening walks. Kyuki Gombi toh 2 mahine se baju ke sheher mein hai."

"Ghar aate hi, mai kitchen bhaag jaati hu, shaam ka khaana, aur phir waapas raat ko bartan"

"Jo thoda time milta hai mujhe din mein, mere assignments complete karne me chale jaate hai, ya phir Krish ki padhai mein help karke. Ya phir Dhara Di aur Maa ki dawaaio ka list check karte karte"

A sob made its way to her throat, as her eyes burned with tears again, threatening to spill out of her eyes. It was as if someone had kept a heavy stone on her chest, and she struggled to say anymore.

Shiva pulled her closer, so that she was now sitting on his lap, legs wrapped around his waist. He put her hands over his neck, and rested his around her waist, drawing circles to calm her down.

He noticed.

Raavi continued, voice heavy with sadness "Aur pata hai, maine jab Dhara Di se kaha, ki mujhse itna kaam akele nahi ho raha hai, toh unhone kya kaha? 'Raavi, tu fikar mat kar. Mujhse bhi nahi hota tha pehle, tujhe aadat pad jaayegi, bacche' "

"Chalo theek hai, maine ek pura mahina adjust karne ki koshish ki. Rishita toh waise bhi Dev ko leke USA mein settle ho gayi. Maine phir bhi akele try kiya. Lekin mujhse nahi ho raha tha. Mera pura body pain karta hai, Shiva. Mere pair cheel gaye hai, jalta hai mera pair. Khaana bhi theek se khaa nahi paati hu tension ke maare. Aur itne stress mein rehti hu pura time, mera sar phatta hai, Shiva."

Her voice was wobbling. Any second she'd burst into tears. Her hand tightened around Shiva's neck as she bent her head down to hide the tears that flowed down her cheeks.

"Aur abhi toh theek hai. Jab mera college chalu ho jaayega, toh kaun karega ghar pe kaam? Dhara Di toh baby ko leke busy ho jaayegi, unse kaise hoga itna kaam akele"

"Toh maine Suman Kaki se kaha 'Hum kisiko ghar pe bula lete hai, jo ghar ka kaam kar sake aur aapka dhyaan bhi rakh sake, saath hi saath Dhara Di ki bhi help ho jaayegi na'"

"Unhone ne pata hai kya kaha?" Raavi was sobbing, every word escaping with a sob from her throat.

"Unhone kaha, 'Jab meri 3 bahuein hai, toh mai ghar mein kisi teesre ko kaam pe kyu rakhungi?' "

With that, her entire resolve broke, and she hugged herself closer to Shiva, body raking with sobs. Shiva wrapped his arms around her, his own heart breaking with every sob that escaped her throat.

"Shiva, meri kya yahi jagah hai iss ghar mein? Meri koi value nahi hai? Kya mai iss ghar mein sirf bai hu, bahu nahi? Mujhe kis baat ki saza mil rahi hai?" Raavi cried, not breaking the hug.

"Maine toh sorry bhi bola na ghar waapas aake, toh kyu mujhe aise bahar waali jaise treat kiya jaa raha hai?"

"Mai buri nahi hu, Shiva. Mai buri nahi hu."

Raavi wept, as Shiva's hold on her tightened.

Shiva was numb. Here, his wife, was sobbing in his arms for the treatment she received from the two idols of his life. It broke him to see her so broken. Was this how they really were? Did they put on a facade all these years?

Or was it just a case of impartiality? Because Shiva couldn't remember a time Dhara or his mother behaved with him like this. Was it really exclusive to Raavi? Or more precisely, the women of the house?

And how did he not notice? Was he so blind to the happenings of the house that he couldn't even see Raavi's plight?

Shiva shushed and calmed down Raavi, who was crying uncontrollably against his body. Breaking the hug, he wiped her tears away, and asked only one question.

"Kabse chal raha hai ye?"

"2 mahine se. Maine kitna try kiya par mera body aur mera mind, dono mera saath nahi de raha Shiva. Mai nahi jee paungi aise. Mere haath dekh, kaise ho gaye hai" Raavi faced her shaky palms towards Shiva, which were completely dry and the top layer of skin was peeling off.

Shiva frowned, in an attempt to prevent any tears that dared to escape his eyes. He caressed her palms gently, and without looking at her, asked her,

"Tune kisiko kuch bataya kyu nahi?"

"Kisko batati? Akeli pad gayi hu mai iss ghar me. Maa aur Di se baat karne ki koshish ki, par woh nahi maane. Gaumbi se dhang se baat nahi hui hai meri. Dev aur Rishita yaha nahi hai, waise bhi unse kya kehti. Krish toh nahi samjhega ye sab."

"Aur tu...." Raavi trailed off, looking away.

Shiva looked up at her, "Mujhe kyu nahi bataya?" His stomach churned at the thought of her not telling him this.

Raavi looked at him, fearing that what she was going to say next would make or break everything. She waited a few moments, before saying,

"Tu kaha unke khilaaf kuch sunta hai. Meri baat chalu hone se pehle mujhe daat deta tu. Aur agar tu mujhse baat karna bandh kar deta, toh mai toot jaati.

Khud ko sametne ki aur himmat nahi hai mujhme, agar mai toot ke bikhar jaati, toh sametnewala koi nahi hai mera iss ghar me" Raavi said softly, looking away.

Shiva went still. Was that how she felt about him? Why wouldn't she? She was right, he is exactly how she described him, and it pained him to know that she wasn't able to share her issues with him because of his idolising behaviour.

Shiva got up and left, leaving behind a shocked and confused Raavi calling out to him.

"Shiva! Shiva, I'm sorry!" Raavi called out, but he simply left the room.

"Dobi Raavi" She said to herself. "Tujhe pata tha na ye aise react karega, kyu bola tune usko ye sab. Koi na koi solution nikaal leti khud, lekin nahi. Ab Shiva ruth gaya"

"Usko waapas aane de, mana lungi"

Just as she finished wondering what she'd tell him, he entered the room.

"Shiva, dekh, I'm sorr- ye kya hai?" Raavi began but noticed a bottle in his hand.

Shiva sat down in front of her, placing the bottle of coconut oil in front of her. "Tujhe dikh raha hai na?"

"Haa, par kyu?" Raavi was super confused.

"Haath de." Shiva asked, taking some oil in his hands. "Haath de na, Raavi"

He called her name out with so much love. There was no malice, no hatred whatsoever. Raavi placed her hands in his, and he began to massage the oil into her palms gently.

"Shiva, kyu?" Raavi whispered at him slowly.

"Pandya Store ki maalkin hoke itna bhi nahi pata? Dry skin ke liye coconut oil best hota hai. Tera haath bilkul theek ho jaayega kuch din me" Shiva smiled at her.

Raavi's eyes filled up with tears. She wasn't surprised at his care. She had experienced it many times already.

What surprised her was that he cared for her, even after she told him everything. And so openly, for the first time.

Shiva look at her and raised his eyebrows. "Ye tere aankhon ka nal ek baar chalu ho jaata hai toh rukta nahi hai kya? Roti rehti hai. Rona band kar, baad aajayegi. Mujhe tairna bhi nahi aata"

Raavi looked at him for 2 seconds before breaking into a toothy smile. Shiva saw her smiling for the first time in the last few hours.

Scratch that, he saw her smile so freely and openly for the first time in months.

She punched him slightly on his arm, "Gadheda" before chuckling. It was a sight to drink in, and Shiva didn't mind having this view for the rest of his life.

"I'm sorry." Shiva said, looking down.

"Tu kyu sorry bol raha hai?" Raavi raised her eyebrows.

"I'm sorry ki maine tujhe aisa lagne diya. Ki iss ghar mein tera koi nahi hai, mai bhi nahi. I'm sorry ki tu itne mahine akele ladti rahi. I'm sorry ki tujhe aisa laga ki mai teri baat nahi sununga, tera saath nahi dunga. I'm sorry ki tu itne logo se gher kar bhi apne aap ko akela paati hai.

Mai vaada karta hu, iss pal se, ki tujhe aisa waapas kabhi nahi lagne dunga. Kabhi nahi. Mujhe maaf karde."

Small tears brimmed his eyes, and Raavi raised her hands to wipe away those tears, nodding slightly.

Maybe things will get better.

He finished massaging her hands, and motioned for her feet, but Raavi nodded no.

"Mujhe nahi pasand koi mere pair chue. Mai kar lungi na khud baadme, okay?"

Shiva knew she didn't want him to see the condition of her feet, so he just gave up and decided to think about a different way to put the oil for her feet later.

"Chal so jaa. Aur aage se kuch bhi hua toh mujhe batane se pehle 10 baar mat sochna. Goodnight." Shiva said, settling in bed and turning off the light.

"Shiva?"

"Hmm?"

"Mai tera haath pakad ke so jaau please?"

He turned around and reached out his hand to her, which she took gently, cuddling it slightly to her chest.

"Thank you, Shiva" Raavi whispered, thinking he was asleep, before herself drifting off.

But Shiva didn't get a wink of sleep that night. The revelation Raavi made, had him re-think everything he thought he knew.

Her reaction is justified, and he needs his bhabhi and maa to know that it's unfair to treat Raavi like this. But, the key was to make his point without hurting either sides.

Shiva sat up all night, wondering how he was going to find a solution to this dilemma. The 3 most important people in his life, he had to find a balance between them.

Come sunrise, things would be different. That was Shiva Pandya's promise.

This was wonderful! Can't wait for the next sunrise 🌄!

I wish everyone in this house knew that every individual is different. Dhara came at the time m, situations bwere different. There were less people. Now there are 2 more people in the house. Plus appetite of three boys have changed as an adult too, and it's probably hard for Raavi to manage on top of school. And Suman, I don't understand her need for not having maid in the house. It's so sad that Raavi felt lonely. But so grateful that Shiva took care of her and made her realize. He's there for her and will. Always listen to her/discuss the issue, even if it's against his mom and Bhabhi.

I loved this! I mean I do like Dhara and Suman sometimes but they are weird! I mean just because they have DIL doesn’t mean they need to do all the work!

I really really loved the first part. Description of Raavi's pain and helplessness and it's discussion with Shiva was very real and touching. Great writing. Waiting for Shiva's solution for the same.
