I started watching American TV series Dexter a few weeks back and today I finally completed the whole show.
After watching the finale, I'm feeling.... empty. I don't know what to feel about the ending. I can't say whether it's good or bad. Obviously it's sad, depressing and I'm having a hard time letting it sync in. Of course, when you're watching a psychological crime thriller show where the protagonist is a serial killer, you don't expect it to have a happy ending.
But this show is not just a psychological thriller, but has a slice-of-life touch to it as well. Watching the whole show from start to end, you start to care about the protagonist Dexter even if he's a psychopath.
And not just him, you start to care about all the supporting characters and want them to have a happy ending. I didn't expect the show to have a happy ending, infact the ending kinda got spoiled for me already before watching it. But it still hurt.
I mean obviously Dexter ending up all alone and living in solitude was the best/worst punishment for him. Nobody has the right to take law in their own hands. The show does try to justify many times that there's nothing wrong with killing "bad people", in being a vigilante.
But in the end it gave our the correct message that such people can never have a happy ending. Dexter destroyed his life, and not just his own life but his sister Debra's as well. Along with his wife Rita who died because of him...and his kids who would grow without mom and dad.
Wherever Dexter went, he brought death and destruction to everyone. So in the end he thought the best punishment for him is to isolate himself. And that fcking hurts to watch. Throughout the series Dexter fooled almost everyone including himself that he's a normal guy with normal social life.. friends, family etc.
And he fooled even the audience that he could have it all. That he could live two lives. That he could have normal human connections. But that was all a mirage. The last shot of Dexter where he's sitting all alone in his house staring at the camera... that was the real him, completely empty, just a shell.
Dexter tries his best to not reach that stage all his life but it was inevitable. I'll say more than Dexter's ending, Debra's death hurts the most. She didn't deserve to die like that after all that she went through. Such a tragic character she is.
I made this thread to discuss the show but to not make it shifted from Bollywood forum, tell which Bollywood actor and actress would be the best role of Dexter and Debra if it gets an Indian adaptation?
In my opinion Nawazuddin Siddiqui would've nailed the role, but I think the role requires the actor to be good looking as well so I would go with Ranbir Kapoor.
