In this show, the kind of upbringing that Gautamabai is giving to khanderao, leave alone becoming a good subedaar, he will become unfit to live an ordinary citizen's life as well.

Instead of nourishing her son's character and capabilities so that in future he becomes a good leader, she blatantly wishes to end all kind of competitions for her son.

During the pariksha of khanderao, she wanted to know the answers beforehand. Only because of Malharrao's firmness she was unable to do it. Now when ahilya seems to be a threat to her, she wants to stop Ahilya's education.

If in future he has to face some real threat from invaders then how will he tackle, if he's incapable of handling minor homely challenges and competitions.

Since we don't know how Gautamabai was like in real life, this show's Gautamabai is absolutely disappointing.

What is worse is that they are glorifying Malharao & Ahilya while belittling Gautamabai. Like, come on, no doubt Malharao made significant contributions to the Holkar dynasty but at the cost of glorifying him and easily giving into Ahilya's demands? The education track just looks historically inaccurate and to make Ahilya shed her crocodile tears --- it just conveyed that education was a piece of toy that was being ripped off from her.

Please don't give the excuse that she's a nine year old whose had limited understanding because that scene & her screechy voice are just annoying to please the ears.

Very true. Her voice and manner of speaking are irritating. And her intercepting the books from the pundit looked a bit manipulative to me.I hope it is my imagination. If Gautama is the villain Ahilya is very persuasive in her own way being adamant and getting her way. all the time. Oh no she is not such a baby even when she makes such cute gestures. Gautama and Khanderao are villains and their way of thinking must change. But their characters are. being ruined to make Ahilya look great. And it was irritating when Ahilya first said “Mujhe na pad was ka Bahut ichaa hai” to her father shaking her head from side to side.Wonder where she got the idea from that suddenly. Only after seeing Khanderao reading books with the pandit.   Khande Rao is not so great even with his education. But Ahilya does not even know what education means. Her brothers were studying back in the village before her marriage. At that time Ahilya did not even care for education. Here she has set her mind on studying. One wonders why. Points to Khanderao with the pandit getting lessons. Even though  Gautama should not refuse education for Ahilya  for this reason how they show Ahilya s desire to obtain knowledge is just a childish whim. That plus all the cute antics of Ahilya not to mention biting her tongue are getting a bit over much and not so endearing as the cvs want it to be,

Honestly this show is turning into typical ITV show where the bahu is always right . And all those people who have different opinions from that bahu are portrayed as villains. In this show both Gautamabai and Khanderao are sacrificed to make Ahilya the great and typical Bahu of ITV land.

Are you surprised, though? It's astounding because I'd heard Sony TV shows were better. But from the description of the recent episodes, this show looks like it's airing on Star Plus or Colors TV.

Going by history Ahilya bai was literate at the time of her marriage. Later Ahilya bai even led troops to battlefield. Those days men were never interested in home politics. Here he is almost a king, where will he have time for what is going on inside. So for all we know it might be Gautama bai who supported Ahilya and encouraged her-to become competent. She might have known how capable Khanderao was, so secretly trained and shaped her daughter in law. In fact I believe as Ahilya was only 9 Gautama bai was the person who shaped Ahilya. Wish the cvs had taken this approach rather than showing kitchen fights.

+1

Yes, it's true that internal affairs were handled completely by the chief queen. Men would rarely meddle with hurrem politics.

And yes there might be Gautamabai's influence over Ahilyabai's character development, in real life. Most sources refer to her as a kind lady.

Bold: Completely agree with that point. Instead of belittling everyone apart from ahilya and malharrao, the cvs could have shown the positive and negative sides of everyone including ahilya.

Hopefully the Nizam track will bring some positive changes in the show.

BTW, did Khanderao have affinity for playing the mridangam as it is showcased in TV? I believe there is less information on that too.

Actually in the course of belittling everyone except Ahilya and Malhar they are completely ignoring the talents of Khanderao. He is fairly intelligent as per tv series and is good at playing mridangam . But everybody else is shown as having no appreciation for music nor knowledge. Ahilya if they want to portray her as great is actually shown as someone having no regard for  others feelings except her reasoning and some kind of knowledge  which she got from her father.  Regarding music she is gyana sunyam. Even Gautama who is encouraging all wrong qualities in Khanderao has no appreciation for his musical talent. They ignore it so much in the serial and it is clubbed with being spoilt less capable and ignorant etc. They glorify who they want to and show others in bad light.

Yeah, but do you know if there is a source wherein Khanderao had affinity for music or mridangam?

I think Ahilya has appreciated his talent of music but it still felt somewhat felt token as if it was zabardasti or just for her sukoon. Yes, Ahilya is primarily glorifying herself. Even with Malharao, she first belittles him & when he completes her demands, she gives them the appreciation. Sure, the DIL should be respected & treated as equally as the son/daughter but Ahilyabai ki toh sirf farmaishe puri hoti h.
