" Nikki, get ready quickly....we need to leave in half an hour." Anokhi heard her sister call for her. They were supposed to go to a wedding that jiju had been invited to. They were pretty known people in Chandigarh and jiju somehow was their lawyer. But what she didn't understand was that why was she required to go? She had an economics exam tomorrow and she hadn't studied one word for it. If she scores less....well then nothing. Shaurya sir had stopped shouting at her uselessly or throwing her out of the class. He had become much soft with her and she was enjoying every bit of a polite Shaurya but was also afraid about how long was that going to last before he was back to shouting at her and getting angry.
" But why do I have to come along Di? I have a test tomorrow and I haven't studies a word." She whined, walking out of the storeroom where she was currently staying. No one was there home except for Babli and her.
" Because apparently Vineet and my mother-in-law do not trust you to be alone at their house." Babli mocked the two of them as Anokhi rolled her eyes.
" Di, I don't really have anything to wear. I mean, no dress worthy to be worn at a wedding." She said, sitting on the couch.
" Come on. I'll drape a saree on you." She said, offering Anokhi her hand to stand up but Anokhi burst out in laughter.
" Di....I have never wore a saree in my entire life. I will make a fool of myself in front of so many people." She replied, still laughing.
" Come on Nikki, you will not. Besides, we don't really have an option because if mummy ji sees you in a suit, she will make you change saying that you are going with her and cannot look down market." Babli said, copying her mother-in-law and dropped next to Anokhi on the couch, laughing too.
" Why can't we just go back di? Like when you were not married to jiju and papaji hadn't started pressurizing me to get married? Anokhi asked as a wave of dissapointment and sadness ran through her.
" I wish we could Nikki. Everything was so simple back then." Babli replied, sighing as the two sisters sat in peace for a while.
" What are you both sisters doing? We are leaving in half an hour. Get ready quickly." Vineet instructed the duo, walking in the house and Babli immediately stood up, followed by Anokhi and walked in.
Anokhi was going through her suitcase to find something to wear but was failing so far. She hadn't found one good dress and then finally gave up when Babli came to her, all dressed.
" Nikki, go and wear this blouse and underskirt. I'll drape this saree around you." Babli instructed her but before she could protest, she was pushed inside the washroom and then her sister draped her in a velvety red, silk saree.
" Di, if I fall down and make a fool of myself, it's on you." Anokhi said, trying to walk properly in the saree.
" You will not. Just don't forget that you are wearing a saree and start running around." Babli told her as the family started for the venue.
It was a huge party lawn and the decorations were absolutely amazing. It totally was a wedding of the rich.
" Come along now quickly. We have to meet the groom." Vineet said, looking at his wife and she gave him a nod as they walked near the stage and that's when Anokhi saw the Sabherwals up on the stage. All of them!
" Kya maata rani...out of all the places I could have run into Shaurya sir, this had to be the one. Now he will ask me if I am done studying for the test tomorrow and I will say no and then I'll not hear the end of it." She started muttering to herself as they continued towards the stage.
" Nahi nahi Nikki.....tu nahi jaa sakti. Yeh sahi time hai, koi tujhe notice bhi nahi kar raha hai toh chup jaa." She continued talking to herself and then sneakily, started walking away from the stage and went to hide behind one of the pillars but unfortunately, Shaan had already seen her.
Babli, Vineet and his parents as they walked up the stage were recognized by Shaurya and Shaan. Vinnet gave a miserable look to Shaurya and Babli nodded her head at the two of them, smiling a little.
" Where did Anokhi run off to? I saw her walking with all of you." Shaan said, majorly conversing with Babli who looked around, only to see Nikki missing.
" Aree....idhar humaare saath hi toh thi, pataa nahi kahaan chali gayi." She said and Vineet looked around too.
" Babli, tu Nikki ko zaraa control mein rakh. Aise bina kisi se puche kahaan chali gayi hai?" Vineet spoke up, arrogant as usual.
" Excuse me? Control mein rakhne ka kya matlab hota hai? Woh koi pet hain aapki?" Shaurya opened his mouth for the first time in a two minutes, clearly agitated with Miss Bhalla's jiju's attitude.
" Dekhiye, aap har time mujhse ladne ki koshish mat kiya kariye." Vineet said, slightly scared of Shaurya because of their previous interactions.
" Vineet, aap please shaant ho jaaiye. Main dhoondh ke laati hoon usse." Babli offered but Shaurya beat her to it.
" Aap please mil lijiye, mera ho gaya hai. Miss Bhalla ko main dhoondh loonga." He said and Devi gave him a very surprised look.
" Aree beta, uski behen hai, jaane de usse." Devi interrupted but Shaurya had decided to go after a certain stubborn girl.
" It's okay badi maa. Mai jaata hoon." He countered, stepping down the stage to look for Anokhi who had made way to the paani-puri stall.
" Ab itni acchi shaadi mein aayi hoon, khaana toh banta hai." She was talking to herself and asked the man to give her a plate.
" Thoda teekha bhaiya....itni meethi thodi na hoti hai paani puri!" She exclaimed, addressing the man who was making them.
" Ji madam." He replied and she continued to munch on while keeping an eye on the Sabherwals, so that she doesn't bump into Shaurya sir.
" Ab di ko jaake bataa deti hoon ki zaraa Shaurya sir aur unki family se door hi rahen. Mujhe nahi sunna Shaurya sir ka lecture ki padhne ki jagah....." Before Anokhi could coninue, she heard a voice, a very familiar one at that and also the one who's owner she was trying to dodge at any cost today.
" Miss Bhalla, kal test hai aur tum yahaan paani puri khaa rahi ho? Syllabus complete ho gaya hai tumhaara?" Shaurya asked her as he had heard her mumbling about how she didn't want to hear his lecture.
He was facing her back but he could recognize those hair anywhere on the face of this earth for two reasons, they always managed to grab his attention towards their owner and the second being that he had cut them, leaving Anokhi so frustrated. He had to confess, she looked cute when she was mad.
" Sir...." She turned around immediately, coming face to face with him and that's when he noticed her wearing a saree.
She didn't look any less than a diva with a red saree on and her hair open, as usual.
" Yes sir. Sy....syllabus almost complete ho gaya hai." She lied, avoiding to look at him in the eye but he was too busy admiring her to notice her lie.
" Sir...sir?" She asked, a little concerned because it had been around ten seconds and he hadn't said one word.
" Sir, I think you are zoned out and before you continue to ask me any more questions, main toh bhaag rahi hoon." She said, unsure if he had even heard her and turned around to go so that he doesn't give her anymore lecture about not studying and all.
" Miss Bhalla, stop right there." Shaurya said as his trance broke when he saw her walking away from him.
Anokhi, who had been considering herself lucky that she won't be getting any lecture from him tonight curse her fate after he stopped her.
" Hayee Maata Rani, aapko inhe abhi zone out se waapis zone in karaana zaroori tha kya?" She muttered to herself as she turned around to face him.
" Yes sir?" She asked, looking a little scared.
" Come along with me." He asked but she nodded in a no.
" I am going to my di sir. She must be looking for me." She told him because she was not sure she wanted to go anywhere with him. Controlling her feelings around him was already hard enough in college, now here too? Specially in the black suit, how on earth could anyone manage to look so good!
" And I am here to take you to her since you ran away from near the stage without telling her. She is worried." He told her honestly.
" I didn't run away." She muttered, lying.
" Then why didn't you come up to the stage? Did the paani puri tempt you that bad?" He asked, completely mocking her as a smirk was playing on his lips.
" Yes sir." She lied. Anything to cover the truth up.
" Or did you see me up there and decided that your time is not worth seeing me outside of college?" He questioned her once again, leaving her shocked and blank.
" That's not true sir!!" She replied, looking away towards the ice cream stall. She will have it later.
" Come along. I was only pulling your leg." He said and the two of them walked towards where her family and his family were talking. Kanchan and Babli seemed to be getting along pretty well.
" Nikki....kidhar chali gayi thi tu?" Babli asked the moment she saw Anokhi.
" Kahi nahi di....bas aise hi." She lied to her sister as she nodded.
" Now come here and don't just wander off without telling me. Thank you Shaurya ji." Babli said, directing the last part towards him as he gave her a small nod.
" You look beautiful Anokhi." Kanchan said, giving a smile to her. They had already met and got along well during Shaurya's birthday party. Kanchan liked Anokhi.
" Thank you." She replied, tucking a loose hair strand which had landed on her face at the back of her ear.
" Di, I have to go home now. Tomorrow's my exam and I haven't studies one word." Anokhi whispered to Babli as she finally found her alone. She couldn't just confess that to her sister in front of her professors that she hadn't studies for the test due tomorrow.
" But Nikki, Vineet won't allow you and anyways, how will you leave alone? It's late and I think we are staying here in one of the spare rooms tonight because Vineet and his friends from work are too drunk to drive." Babli told her the truth and Anokhi tensed.
" Di, you don't worry. Jiju won't know that I left because he is drunk and I will take an auto back home. I have to study or else I'll fail tomorrow." She told her sister seriously.
" Fine Nikki but share your live location with me and inform me as soon as you reach home. Here are the keys." Babli said, after contemplating a lot.
" Yes di! Thank you. See you tomorrow." Anokhi said, taking the keys and started to walk out towards the exit to hail an auto when Shaurya's attention fell on her.
" Now where is she going again alone so late at night? Miss Bhalla has no sense of time.
" Badi maa, I am leaving now because I have to reach college early. Maakhan will come to pick you all up in the morning." Shaurya said, addressing Devi Sabherwal, who thankfully agreed without asking any questions.
" Drive safe beta and call me once you reach home." She said and Shaurya nodding, taking long steps towards the exit. He didn't really want Anokhi to leave like this so late.
" Anokhi....wait." Thankfully, he spotted her as she was about to get into the auto and she turned to look around the source of the voice.
" Sir?" She asked, a little confused so as to what was it about.
Shaurya walked towards her and motioned the auto driver to leave and when he started, Anokhi called him back.
" Aree bhaiyaa....rukiye, chalna hai, bas 2 minute." Anokhi called out but the man didn't stop.
" Sir? Why did you ask him to go? How am I supposed to go home now?" Anokhi whined at Shaurya who had furrowed his eyebrows in irritation.
" Anokhi it's almost 1 AM. What were you thinking leaving like that? It's not really safe for women here around this time." He schooled her, didn't allowing her to speak.
" Sir, I need to go home and study for the test tomorrow and that auto was my only option to go because I don't see anymore auto's here." She said, holding her head in stress.
" Tone down the stress a bit Miss Bhalla. It's just a class test and I know you pay attention in the class so it will not be difficult for you. Now come on, I'll drop you home." He said, leaving no room for argument and Anokhi, surprisingly agreed as they started walking towards the car parking.
That's when Anokhi fell the string of her blouse loosening up very quickly and before she could think of anything, it was totally undone as she immediately kept her hand on her back to prevent the bloody blouse from coming off.
Shaurya, who just noticed that Anokhi was not by his side turned around to see her looking stressed and scared than ever as he started to walk back to her.
" Anokhi, what happened? Come on." He said, keeping a hand on her shoulder slightly and his eyes immediately softened when he saw tears in her eyes.
" Why are you crying suddenly?" He asked, getting a little scared himself. He always had been and will be scared to see tears in this girls eyes for some reason.
" My....my blouse." She managed to stammer but that was enough for him to understand that something had happened with her clothes.
" Do you want me to help you?" He asked, as softly as it was possible for him to as he looked at her, trying to calm her down.
She nodded her head hesitantly because she didn't really have an option.
" Don't worry Anokhi. I will close my eyes. I promise." He tried to reassure her as she turned around.
" I trust you sir." Anokhi managed to say which put a very small smile on Shaurya's lips as he closed his eyes.
As his knuckles brushed a little on Anokhi's bare back while he was pushing her hair away from her back to her right shoulder, a shiver ran down her spine and she shivered herself. She had never let any man come this close to her and now all she could feel were goosebumps. Shaurya, on the other hand noticed her stiffening at his touch even with his eyes closed.
Here you go." He said as he was done tying the dori of her blouse.
" Thank you sir." Anokhi said, turning to face him. He just took a step closer to her and wiped the tears away from her cheeks using his thumb.
Shaurya then took off his coat and wrapped it around Anokhi.
" Take this." He muttered while doing the same and escorted her to the car and opened the door for her to sit.
" Sir....if I fail in the test tomorrow, will you throw me out of the college?" Anokhi voiced her doubts as she looked at Shaurya who was driving.
" No Miss Bhalla, I am not going to throw you out of the college under any circumstance and moreover, you are not going to fail because I am not conducting any test tomorrow." He told her, giving her a slight look before focusing back on the road.
" You are not taking the test?" Anokhi asked, getting really happy and excited as she tilted towards him and he rolled his eyes at her childishness.
Anything to make her sleep without any stress tonight. He can just conduct the test next week, no big deal.
" I believe that's what I just said Anokhi." He replied, giving her a side smirk and she sighed thankfully, now completely relaxed. That's what he wanted and that's what he got.
Her smile, that's it.
