Chapter 5 – D Day
It was the day of the party. The Ranes were looking rather dapper in their tuxedos while Kalyani and Anupriya were looking ravishing in their sarees. Kalyani was particularly looking radiant in her wine coloured scallop-edged lace saree which she had paired with a crystal drop earring set and her hair was lightly curled and pulled on one side. Her beauty today, could make any heart skip a beat. Though this party was not for a joyous occasion, they all put on a fake smile and left for the resort.
The party was arranged at a quaint resort, located in the outskirts of Aurangabad. The garden area was all decked up with white orchids and fairy lights. It was a sight for the sore eyes. But Sarthak had also made sure that large posters depicting Vivek’s incarceration were hung at different locations at the venue to taunt Aaosaheb. All the influential men and women of the town had arrived. The subtext of this party was pretty clear to everyone attending it, and Aaosaheb was hating every minute of it. The party was going well and the champagne was served. Then, Sarthak makes a toast expressing that this day marked the end of an abuser who thought that he could get away with his crime, it was the end of an oppressor who thought that money and power could save him but the justice system had finally served him right and that his beloved niece could finally rest in peace today. He also expresses how he partly blamed himself for not trying hard enough to convince his niece against marrying Vivek. Had he been successful then, they would not have lost her today. Nevertheless, he proclaims that he had begun avenging her death and would not stop until everyone who was involved in that heinous act were punished. He says that while looking at Anupriya who doesn’t even bat an eyelid as she knew that she was innocent. During the entire toast, Sarthak had made sure that the spotlight was on Aaosaheb so that it could remind her of her defeat. Aaosaheb was fuming on the inside and wanted to punish him that very second but she held her breathe and stepped down as all the cards were in his favour now. Her inner monologue was screaming in anger and vowing revenge from everyone who had gotten her to this point in her life today.
On the other hand, the devil’s mistress had begun her dirty work. Avni wanted to provoke Malhar against Kalyani at this party but she very well knew that he would never do anything that would intentionally hurt or jeopardize Kalyani ‘s safety even when there was a rift between them. The only way that she could get him to do her bidding now was if he was incapacitated somehow. So she cunningly spikes a drink with hallucinogenic drugs and gets it served to Malhar. An unaware Malhar drinks it and soon gets intoxicated. Avni then pretends to help him and takes him to a secluded area in the resort and starts her rant. She finally reveals to Malhar that Mukku is none other than his Moksh, the son that he had been longing for, the last 5 years. She goes on to add that Anupriya and Kalyani knew all about this and that they had purposely hidden his identity to punish Malhar for marrying Kalyani out of hate. She continues provoking Malhar by saying that, not only did they want to hurt Malhar but they also wanted to hurt Sarthak by giving him false hopes that his daughter was alive. And that they had even convinced an innocent child to pretend to be a girl and had made him lie to his own father at that young age. She sarcastically professes that she wonders what kind of ill effects that would have on a child. An already angry Malhar could not believe his ears. He was clearly inebriated at the moment and was unable to think straight. The drugs were messing with his decision making skills and he had started hallucinating the Deshmukh women mocking him and laughing at his stupidity. This infuriates him and in a fit of rage, he starts throwing things around. Avni notices that this was the right to leave and gets back to the party.
Meanwhile, the party had wrapped up and the guests had left. The family was ready to leave and everyone was awaiting Malhar’s return. Aaosaheb and Sarthak were bickering as usual and Mukku was fast asleep on Kalyani’s lap. Avni quietly comes near Kalyani and whispers in her ear that Malhar wanted to see her immediately and tells her where to go. An unsuspecting Kalyani hands Mukku over to Anupriya and informs her that she would return home with Malhar. The rest of the family then leave for home.
Kalyani reaches the spot where Malhar was, only to find him out of control. He would be shouting out her name and questioning how she could have hidden such a big truth from him. He would be writhing in pain that how could the woman he loved have wronged him so much by separating his son from him. Kalyani was astound that Malhar found out the truth about Moksh and gets tensed. But as she nears him, she notices his shifty demeanour. Clearly something was wrong with him. She treads lightly towards him and calls out to him. The minute Malhar notices her, he advances towards her and pins her against the wall and demands an answer. She tries to reason with him but he would not be any state to comprehend her reasoning. He starts violently rocking her to get an answer. She realizes that he is intoxicated and somehow manages to drag him to their car. Kalyani with great difficulty straps him into his seat and starts driving the car herself. Malhar was still creating a ruckus in the car but she somehow manages to drive. They would be driving back home on the highway, when Malhar in a drunken state suddenly pulls at the steering wheel causing them to crash at the nearest tree. Their car was totalled and Kalyani who was at the wheel was severely injured. Malhar too has sustained some injuries and was unconscious.
Unbeknownst to the both of them, Avni would have been following them in her cab and would have witnessed the crash. She only extracts Malhar from the car, leaving Kalyani alone in that state. She takes Malhar to the nearby hospital, gets his first aid done and heads home. On returning home, she stealthily places a still unconscious Malhar in his bed and leaves. Since they got back home way past midnight, no one would have noticed them either.
What was going to happen to Kalyani now?? Had she truly met her end?? what was Malhar going to do when he finds out that Kalyani is missing?? What will Anupriya do when she finds out that her beloved daughter is in grave danger?? Find out more in Chapter 6.
