Tiara and Sana were chatting in their Gone Girls group. Both worried to their last nerves coz it’s been almost a week since any of their friends have texted there. They tried to reach their phones but all in vain. First, they assumed they must be planning a surprise party as both of their birthdays are coming on the same day, but now it’s too much. Never has it been this long without any response in GG.
Sana:"Ok dear. Get some sleep. Here Simba too is getting very anxious for some reason. Mein usse samhalti hoon. Tomorrow we will find our friends,"
Tiara was already dozing off after the long tiring day, she texted a quick “GN” and kept her phone aside.
Suddenly she jumped out of her sleep. She had a nightmare. She had a glimpse of the picture frame from her story but that’s not it. That picture frame now had all of her friends in it. She was shaking. She had to share it with someone. The dream felt so real, and it was as if she could hear them all scream (even though she had only heard their automated voices to this date)
Listening to her dream, Sana was speechless. In another corner of the room, Simba was aggressively scratching on a picture frame. She said goodbye to her sons who were preparing for their upcoming charity event with their friends and dashed out of the house, picked her car keys and texted Tiara to meet her at a rendezvous point.
After some online stalking and research, Sana and Tiara found out that their friends were going to a venue to plan their party and had checked in a hotel in that fateful night. What stuck like a needle to their eye was Moumi’s tweet about the picture from Tiara’s story. Though the most suspicious part was that it’s been a week and she still hasn’t deleted her twitter account. That moment they knew there must be something wrong.
Shibani and Moumi were bickering in the comment section of the chat, and according to their chat, it looked like everyone was with them. But the last reply by Shibani was somewhat weird and looked unfinished. Normally they wouldn’t give it much of a thought as it was by ms nakhrewali of their group, but this time it worried Tiara. It was sent exactly at 11 p.m. just like her story and then there were none.
The two packed their bags and Sana drove at a speed so fast that Tiara's head started spinning. She played Alan Walker's songs which perfectly suited the gloomy mood and complemented the almost deserted road ahead. With the rhythm of the songs, Sana finally calmed down. Suddenly with a hissing sound, the car stopped. Simba started barking as the two got down and then wiggled his way out of the car via the window. They tried to restart the car multiple times but failed. They checked the petrol pipe, which was cut open.
They almost broke into tears because of the stress when a blinding light hit their eyes. A car was coming. They didn’t know whether to seek lift even though their car had broken down about an hour ago and they were stranded in the middle of nowhere. Simba was quick with the decision and ran and stopped the car.
There were two guys in the car. They were hesitant but suddenly Sana screamed. "Tiara, we must be dreaming the whole thing. Pinch me". Tiara couldn’t close her mouth. Vicky Kaushal and Harshad Chopra were busy cuddling Simba and smiling at them.
Tiara got herself together and got to know they were going to the same hotel to check the shooting location for their next horror film. She asked, “Don't mind me, but why would you go to that hotel?” Vicky and Harsh looked at each other and Vicky said, “Well, it's said it's a haunted hotel and we were dared by our crew team to stay there for a night and make sure it meets our requirements. Though I must admit being asked for a lift by two beautiful women at the night with a dog and one wearing white,” Sana looked at her white top “, is spooky,”
When the five of them reached the hotel, it was already dark. But it was a gorgeous hotel, greatly resembling some sort of palace. As Vicky, Harshad and Tiara searched for someone, Sana waited for them at the lake which was near the hotel, the cold breeze sending chills down her spine. It was beautiful, she won't lie. But moreover, it was reminding her of home. They stepped into the house and the red, white and black interiors of the hotel, the beautiful chandelier and the age-old bursts were so beautiful that Sana almost forgot that they were in danger. 10 points to the interior designer.
There was only one man at the reception who was somewhat creepy and only said two sentences that made Tiara wanted to run away because honestly, it was a huge old red flag. But she had to be there for her friends.
“Ek hi kamra hai aur chitra mein chudail hai”
They had already told the story to the boys on their way to the hotel who were very much intrigued by the mystery.
When they reached the room, Sana and Tiara broke down. It was mere hours to their birthdays and the ones who they thought were arranging parties for them were captured inside a picture frame. They all had horrified and crying expressions. This was surely not how they were expecting to see them. Tiara blamed herself for writing the story and Harshad consoled her. Sana couldn’t stop shaking and Vicky kept assuring her that everything was gonna be alright.
But, for a moment it felt to both of the girls as if expressions of the girls in the picture changed from too worried-very frowny to less frowny-bit smiley.
It was 9 p.m. They still had two hours for planning the rescue.
Tiara googled “how to kill a ghost” making Harshad scoff but then he was shut up by Sana who made him realize they had no other option since the receptionist was nowhere to be found and the only living creatures other than the five were spiders and creepy crawlies. The result only showed a song which she added to her future playlist. She hoped the instrumental part of the song is good.
Sana: “If it went like your story, then how were all of them captured at once? Shouldn’t one be pulled at a time while the others could have saved her?”
Harshad: “Shayad more people attract more ghosts like what kind of happened in the movie Tumbbad.”
Tiara: “Yeah Harsh, you have a point. According to my story, whoever stayed in this hotel got sucked into that frame. Maybe they all reside there somewhere in some other dimension and can still be released, alive,”
Sana: “So today anything can happen. Even though we are four, we may end up like them.”
Everyone got silent.
Vicky took Simba into his lap and said in a baby voice, “No, today is different. Today we have Simba. Kuch nehi hoga humhe. Our knight in a furry armour will save us.”
Even in the face of such a danger, Sana couldn’t help but blush.
The food had arrived at 10 though none of them could eat, the weirdest part was as if the food had appeared out of thin air.
Amidst all their palpitation and heavy breathing, the clock struck 11. Tiara took out scissors and handed those over to the other three. It was her story. She was not going to let it beat her.
The painting dropped and as expected, it started shaking and the cables came out strangling them. But this time, they had scissors.
After releasing themselves from the vicious cables, they all gathered into one corner. The painting was bleeding now.
Suddenly Sana had an idea. She asked Vicky, “Didn’t the ghost in your movie, Bhoot, get destroyed by burning the corpse? Then again, can you imagine had Tiara been here, she would have gone nuts! What bullshit movie was that, why did you sign it? You could have just done a Tumbbad instead!” She said in making Tiara laugh and Vicky scowl, but he chose not to comment when Sana apologized and signed at Tiara who had finally got some color in her cheeks.
Tiara: “So if we burn the painting, they may get released ? Like burning a cage would release the bird?”
Harshad playfully said, “Doesn’t burning a cage mean burning the bird? This is not CGI fire, you know? Like the one Maya got married around to that Rudra.”
Tiara blushed and said, “Gawd you are such an Aditya Hooda. No I mean if it were a door to another dimension then it would be more of a door than a cage. And burning the door might release them?”
The picture was now lying on the ground jumping towards them. The thought of the door closing forever after being burnt was knocking in their head, but they didn't say that instead unanimously tried to say in a loud voice, “WORTH TRYING !!”. Though none of their voices came out and it sounded like only a mutter.
Tiara took a matchbox (She was coming to a haunted hotel, of course she came ready) and suddenly Simba jumped, took the salt pot from the table and spilled it over the painting. Sana shrieked and went to pull him away but Tiara stopped her. She had read somewhere salt and fire is a deadly combination for ghosts. Vicky took the salt from Simba and poured it on the painting, keeping him away from harm. Sana poured the petrol of their broken car while trying to run away from the monstrous frame. Tiara lit a match and threw at it while several hands emerged out of the picture, which was trying to pull them back into it.
The fire formed into a ghostly figure and eventually vanished. Vicky and Harshad pulled the girls away from it who were too spellbound to move.
They were all breathing heavily. Suddenly the room was filled with people. And from that crowd, their girls ran and jumped into them with a tight embrace.
Darshi: “Guys look at the clock. It’s 12!”
All of them started singing happy birthday. Even the other rescued people started singing along with them.
A party was waiting. Many of the rescued people were locals. Their families were so happy to get them back. Then all of them shifted the party to the lakeside while the GG lead them with the arrangements.
“So, what’s the story ?” Anushka looked at the two men and flushed. The four got on to tell their stories and Simba gave encouraging barks and woofs.
“It's too late, lets cut the cakes, shall we?” Shurthi said and all gawked at her.
“Aapko cake kahan se dikha?”
“Are you sure you aren’t…” Tannu left her sentence incomplete and looked at Vicky who wasn't listening
“Bro, I swiggied! Now that the curse is lifted, the hotel is safe, and we know how much greedy Siggy can get, so they are delivering here, at this hour!” Tia said and she and Shruthi leapt off their chairs and dashed out. Soon, they were followed by delivery men in Swiggy uniforms who carried loads of boxes of cakes and food.
“Shame no one wants to eat the spooky food, Prash said and sighed.”
“Why don't you try,” Sana laughed and passed her a Gulaab Jamun (Swiggy one) and when some sugar syrup fell on the plate that had the food, it burst to flame, making everyone yell.
“Why was this brought down here, anyway!” Prash yelled, but everyone looked at each other in confusion because no one had touched the food in the room. The creepy man smirked as he dug into the noodles.
“You guys, come on, lets dance yaar,” Ayushi said, even though everyone was dead tired.
“Yaar ek dance waale gifs daalne hi padenge, everyone knows, now come on! This is an order!”
“Ji officer Sahiba,” Prash laughed and took her offered hand. Soon everyone was grooving to Chicken Dance, and all other Bollywood songs that played with Spotify ads. Seems like getting rid of the ghosts got rid of the network issues too, beat that, greedy Spotify ad writers.
“And now, for the gifts,” Tannu smiled at the birthday girls.
Sana opened her mouth to ask her how the gifts were intact but was interrupted by Anushka
“Which we had locked in the cupboard.
‘Because we don't trust Miss T’s stories,” Shibu continued for her, in a teasing tone, making Tiara flush.
“And our threads have everything happening as per convenience” Moumi completed the sentence as Tia and Darshi apporached with boxes of the gifts.
“Sana, I would like to gift you something too,”
“Please don’t say it's a ticket to your Bhoot movie,” She replied, making Vicky flush.
“No, it’s a dog mom tee, I think Simba will like it,”
“Thanks,”
“It was great meeting you two, and you both are fierce women,” Harshad said, making Tiara tuck her hair behind her ears.
“You guys are amazing too.”
“You know who else is amazing? Scroll to the next post,” Ankita yelled from across the moment and everyone laughed at the four’s expense.
