The misunderstanding- one shot

Preesha Pov

He said he hated her.

He shouted at her face that he hated her. She was called every name in the book by him. Everything. He slandered her reputation in front of everyone. Her parents. Her entire society.

He, Rudra her husband, who protected her for the past couple of months, stood by her when no one did. He, who made sure that their son and her were never called any names.

It all changed for them over the course of one night.

He let her parents and the entire society know just how cheap a woman she was. He let them know the extent of his hate towards her and her betrayal.

It wasn’t his words that destroyed her or his behaviour. It was his eyes. It was what she saw in his eyes since that night, that destroyed her. No more the Rudra that loved her and always had a twinkle in his eyes for her.

Their relationship, their marriage wasn’t a conventional one. They ‘hated’ each other in the beginning. They didn’t think much of their marriage, it was only for saaransh.

However things changed with time. She didn’t know when he became from an insensitive, rude rockstar....to the father of saaransh for her. Yes, he was saaransh’s father. Even if saaransh wasn’t Rudra’s biological son, he was his son in every other way.

Since then, she started respecting and trusting Rudra. Their relationship started off as being parents together and they made a great team.

But he wasn’t just saaransh’s father anymore, she soon started to see him as her husband. Her man. She doesn’t know exactly when it happened, but only that it did. He became the only person she could trust in the world with anything. She would close her eyes and see only him. His smile made her smile. His sadness and pain gave her pain. His success was her success. His failure was her failure. He was in her dreams every night and every waking moment became about...Rudra. Rudra, her husband.

Rudra her husband, who she loved immensely. Yes, she was heads over heels in love with him. How could she not be?

She started looking for every opportunity to be around him, going into his room even when there was nothing she needed but made every excuse to do so. She loved cooking for him and learning everything about him from his mom. She loved it when he argued with her for the most stupid reasons. She lived for their fights and creative insults towards the other. Their fights had changed too. At first it was only to hurt each other’s ego but now it was all about teasing the other. There was affection now...their banter brought smiles to their faces even when they drove each other mad.

She craved for his touch, yearned for it. Her heart would start racing every time, he was close to her. She knew that he would make fun of her reaction to his physical proximity. The proximity that would make her heart beat out of her chest, that she wanted more of but would get nervous too. He thought of her as a prudish....but what did he know? He was the first man she was experiencing such feelings with. He thought she was experienced because she was already a mother....that she was experienced cause she had a fiancé...

None of it was true.

Though she vaguely liked Yuvraj, at some point. He was the only boy around her growing up. She thought that the joy and the security their friendship gave her was...love. She thought she knew all about love. She thought she knew all about passion.

How wrong, she was. She did not know what love or passion was until Rudra entered her life. Hell, even when they met for the first time and fought, he managed to evoke more emotion in her than anyone else ever had. She felt such intense dislike for him, she wasn’t used to that intensity but every emotion she felt for him was intense. Whether that was dislike, irritation, anger, passion or...love.

Her only problem was that she was never able to truly express herself. Yes it was easy for her to read other people’s eyes and emotions. That’s what she did her entire life for everyone. But could other people read hers? No. Not until Rudra.

Rudra managed to shatter all the walls she built around her. He managed to bring out the young girl that was underneath her tough shell, that was burdened with responsibilities. He awoke deep passion within her. He did, sometimes, read her eyes too.

She knew he loved her. Loved her immensely. How could she not? The love in his eyes was palpable for anyone to see. Every little action of his towards her. Every time he stood by her, every time he trusted her, every time he confided in her with his secrets- she saw the love in his eyes.

She saw his struggle to confess his love to her, she waited for when he would so she could tell him about her love for him too.

Rudra was so lucky that he was able to express every emotion he felt with his eyes. Unlike her.

Rudra could not see that she loved him too.

But she couldn’t blame him.

She had kept too much from him. Not just transparency about her feeling for him. She didn’t tell him about Saaransh’s truth or that she knew what happened to his brother. She never made him feel secure that she lacked any sort feeling for Yuvraj.

It was all her fault. Everyone said it and she knew it was true.

She had been alone for so long in her life that it was genuinely hard for her to fathom she had someone now could share things with. 21 year olds would care about nothing and live their life freely, it wasn’t the same for her. At 21 not only did she deal with the pressures of medical school but her sisters death which crushed her family. Taking up the responsibility of saaransh as an unmarried woman. Dealing with abuses hurled by a brutal society. Learning how to become numb to insults only for saaransh’s sake. Learning how to develop a thick skin and not caring about what others thought of her. Learning how to not give explanations to anyone. She was used to it for too long now

She never felt like she had to share the truth with anyone.

Just as she was beginning to learn to start sharing her responsibilities with him and start being honest with Rudra, something like this happened.

Another reason she waited for a long time to tell rudra the truth about saaransh was because a deep part within her was scared. Not because he would take saaransh away, no she trusted him enough as a parent that he would never break their child’s heart. But a part of her scared if Rudra would push himself away from her. What if he only loved her cause she was saaransh’s mom? The insecurity may have been stupid but she did feel it. He always would proudly say that she was the best mother ever. Would he still feel the same?

Especially knowing that this ‘best mother’ kept the secret of rajeev’s death to protect that stupid Yuvraj. He would be very angry. Even if he accepted saaransh’s truth, he would have a harder time accepting rajeev’s truth. That would make him hate her. Would he hate her enough that he would leave her?

She was scared. She did not want to loose him. Maybe that was the reason she subconsciously avoided telling him the truth. Somedays she felt brave enough to tell him, trusting that their love was strong enough to survive it. Somedays she wasn’t brave and just wanted to extend their bubble of happiness for a little while longer.

Yes, she was setting them up for greater heartbreak. Which is exactly what happened. Not being completely truthful to him despite her promises to him, broke them. It shattered the trust and respect they built with each other.

It was all her fault which is why she was taking his anger. His wrath. His hate. His torture.

She knew Rudra. This was not him. He was at the peak of his anger. He was in immense pain which he was inflicting on her too. She broke his heart. And he was breaking hers.

Him pushing her away was killing him. She always thought she wasn’t capable of loving anyone other than saaransh. A love a mother feels for her child is immense but one that she feels for her soulmate was all consuming.

Rudra was her soulmate. She loved him madly with all her heart, her soul and it was time he knew it.

She had to fight. Not just for the father of her son but for her husband. Not just for saaransh’s happiness but for hers.

She had to fight for them.

He may hate her right now. He may want to torture her, crush her soul. He may want to make her jealous with other girls. He may even want to divorce her and toss her away.

But she knew he was beyond all that and in his heart he still deeply loved her. She had to have faith in that love and awaken it again.

It was all on her now. She had to turn things around and she would. They were destined to find each other and she would fight to always keep them together. She would fight him too, if he tried to tear them apart.

No she couldn’t sit and cry about it anymore. She wasn’t the same Preesha Sreenivasan anymore. She was Preesha Khuranna and she was going to be a force to wreckon with. Preesha Sreenivasan made mistakes that Preesha Khuranna would not.

It’s time for you to meet your match Rudraksh Khuranna. Enough of your torture. Preesha Khuranna was going to fix it all whether you liked it or not.
