Karan Johar locks Abhimanyu Dassani and Sanya Malhotra for his new Netflix film

OTT is the way forward! Bollywood filmmakers and actors are slowly and steadily shifting to digital content breaking the century-old regional rule that restricts them to narrate their stories within three hours. Actors like Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique, Manoj Bajpayee, Jaideep Ahlawat, Kiara Advani among others have already forayed into the digital world while Akshay Kumar, Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol will soon be seen in some or other digital venture. Now, following the suit are Gen-Y actors Abhimanyu Dassani and Sanya Malhotra.
We’ve exclusive learned that Abhimanyu and Sanya will star in a rom-com, produced under Karan Johar’s digital production company, Dharmatic Entertainment. The yet-untitled film is said to be a simple love story with a twisted drama plot and will release on the streaming giant Netflix. The movie was apparently scheduled to go on floors in June and was in pre-production when the COVID-19 pandemic indefinitely pushed everything. The makers are now looking for normalcy to return before they kick off the project.
Vivek Soni who has assisted filmmakers like Vinil Mathew on Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) and Abhishek Chaubey on Sonchiriya (2019) will direct this romantic drama. Although Soni has previously helmed a Priyanshu Painyuli starrer short film, Bawdi (2012), and an anthology called Chaar Cutting (2015) that captures a wide array of human emotions and genres, his Netflix film will mark his debut as a feature film director. Soni is said to have written this film with Aarsh Vora.
The film that brings the Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota hero Abhimanyu Dassani and Dangal heroine Sanya Malhotra together, paired opposite each other for the first time, is the fifth Dharmatic project under the company’s long-term, multi-project deal with Netflix. The banner released its first Netflix film Guilty in March this year and has already announced an anthology and a series for the premium OTT service. While The Other is an anthology that showcases completely different facets of the “other” angle in a relationship, the tentatively titled ‘The Heroine’ is a suspenseful family drama that marks Madhuri Dixit’s digital debut. Karan Johar is also said to be producing Poo Diaries, a spin-off show on Kareena Kapoor’s character Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001).Edited by HugeScarcity - 2 years ago
