The ongoing disputes with China have led to a surge in nationalism on both sides of the border. And just like every other current affair, this situation too has influenced social media trends, on Facebook in particular. We’re talking about a brand new profile picture frame that says “Teri Fitrat Dagabaaz”, taking a jibe at China’s tendency to betray India’s trust repeatedly. But the most interesting part here is that the quirky phrase is the latest musical invention by Royal Munda OJ.

For those not familiar with the name, Royal Munda OJ is an upbeat rapper, singer and composer who rose to fame with his album and song “Munda Royal Hai”. The 25-year old musician has gained immense popularity among the youth for his vocal stylings and peppy numbers. The latest feather in his cap is the song “Teri Fitrat Dagabaaz”, now available across all music platforms. And as expected, the single has made a strong impression on the present pop culture trends.

The Facebook frame that’s in the limelight now, is a welcome addition to the flood of challenges and filters that have overwhelmed social media in the recent months. And the Indian youth has been embracing it in all excitement. As Indians begin to avoid Chinese products, this filter-frame is more like wearing the boycott-China emotion on your sleeve. To be more accurate, wearing it on your FB profile picture rather! Facebook has been constantly offering a variety of image processing features to support or encourage mass emotions, cheering for your favourite sports leagues, showing community support and so on. You can use these filters, frames and overlays as a temporary show of solidarity with a cause you believe in. Alternatively, you can continue to decorate your profile picture in a way that you like, with something more permanent. From jokes and pop culture references, all the way to cartoons and caricatures, even your own avatars, the possibilities are endless. The social media giant quite literally spoils you for choice in that department.

Our correspondent had a chance to speak to a bunch of Facebook users who have already updated their profile picture with the “Boycott China- Teri Fitrat Dagabaaz” frame. While a few were aware of the tagline’s origin, others admitted to using it because it sounded fun and patriotic at the same time. One of the users commented, “The people of India feel that the line fits well for China as their very nature is of betrayal.”

On being asked to comment on this trend, the singer himself added, “When I started using this filter on my Facebook, I hadn’t expected it to become such a popular trend so soon. I guess, the audience is truly enjoying the new music. And it humbles me to be able to connect so well to their current emotion.” OJ has always maintained his desire to create meaningful music that has the potential to bring about positive changes.

Saurabh Rehani, representing Headstock Labs, a digital marketing agency, observed that it is remarkable how OJ’s song has managed to strike a chord with the audience so soon. Earlier this month, the release of the song had led to a rise in the circulation of face masks bearing the same tagline. That, followed by the quirky Facebook filter, is an indication of how much OJ’s fans are appreciating the new number.

The song has specifically found its niche among the youth. The latter feels that the lyrics are relatable and catchy. In addition, they also enjoy the music that lends the song all the potential to be the next chartbuster. The whole idea is to add some color and creativity in these dire times, when most people are stuck at home and being constantly bombarded with depressing news about the events of 2020.

OJ has been collaborating with other rap stars like Badshah. He has been a part of international and national music projects alike, constantly treating music lovers with his mix of flavorful rhythms. According to our sources, OJ was also supposed to be a wild-card entry in Bigg Boss season 13 but there was a change of plans at the last minute. He owns OJ Music and Production, his own production house and approaches rap as a wonderful medium of expression. Through the new song, he looks forward to continuing entertaining music lovers across all groups.

The first look of “Teri Fitrat Dagabaaz” was unveiled in June. It has been shared and reshared across major social media channels since then. Check out the amazing song if you haven’t yet. We assure you that you would be delighted to update your playlist. And who knows, the song may captivate you enough to give in to the whole FB filter-frame trend we talked about earlier!
