Why did Aamir do Thugs of Hindostan?

Won't it be a permanent blot upon his filmography?

Usually, his scripts are result of canny calculation and done with the intention of nurturing his carefully cultivated audience.

This movie seemed like an anomaly.

His character was interesting but the execution of the movie was a total failure. 

On paper the movie must have sounded interesting. 

But they totally effed it up. 

Abtak remakes hi karta aaya hain. Sabhi chal gya , usko laga hoga pirates ka indian downgrade bhi chalega. Par dooba diya. Blue, paani, thugs inn sab filmo se hume yehi seekh milti he ki Paani saath aache se vyavhar karo warna dooba dega 

Necklace chor Fatima Sheikh ko badi film mile iske liye kia tha waise. 

YRF basically let him do what he wanted. 😆

See the movie probably sounded great on paper. It seemed to have a good story behind it as well. The execution, direction, etc. was messed up though. The actual concept just didn't come through. Then they tried to sell the movie on Big B and Aamir's names, but that failed as well. After all they aren't Bhai jo kuch bhi karlo movie 200 crore banayegi hi.

Probably because it looked good on paper

But he still should have known that when you have Victor as director, even the nicest of scripts get screwed when executed.
