We have the option enabled to embed TikTok videos in IF posts.

Its the members choice or discretion if we want to use the option or not.

Does it work by simply pasting the TikTok video link? No embed code required?

I feel like you're missing the point. It's not about choice or not. It's not about the ability to embed either.

It's about the platform and the country behind it. TikTok videos are rarely flagged or removed despite their objectionable contents. Additionally, it's from China. At a time when so many countries (India included) are saying Boycott Chinese products, India Forums decides that a Chinese product should get more visibility on its platform.

Anyone should expect backlash when you do that.

both tiktok and corona are deadly virus- one ruined youth of the country another (almost) ruined whoever was left.

Why is this such a thing now? Like gunpowder, the compass, seismographs and even paper are Chinese inventions... shall we stop using all these things? Honestly, you guys are just falling for toxic nationalism. The company that owns TikTok is Chinese, but TikTok itself is an international version of a Chinese app that is separate from the Chinese one. In fact, it is a separate company that is now run by an American CEO out of the USA, who previously worked as one of the chief executives at Disney. And realistically, do you realize how much money you can make on this app? Look up the salaries of some top TikTokers. The people who started this ban TikTok movement were either misguided and have spread their misinformation, or they are actively trying to stop the spread of this app because these types of income sources can be major social equalizers.

As far as TikTok not policing the content on the app too effectively, if you look back they were actually receiving backlash when they did attempt to do so earlier and were accused of censorship. Similar conflict is now taking place in the USA with regards to Twitter choosing to flag inappropriate messaging from the president that contained racially charged content and incited violence and Facebook not doing so. Both companies have received both criticism and praise for their respective choices. Unfortunately, this is a no-win situation in this day and age because we are in new territory with these technologies. I receive so many harmful forwards via WhatsApp that could spread health misinformation and even incite communal violence. They’ve previously taken steps to curb that spread, but in the age of the coronavirus it was still a massive source of misinformation. All that to say, let’s just give these tech companies at least some benefit of the doubt, instead of falling prey to campaigns created by people whose motivations are unclear at best.

The point is not about what has passed or what was invented by whom. The point is today. The present.

Think about it this way. Whenever a country has done something against human code of ethics, countries have banded together and brought that country down. When Germany became aggressive under Hitler's regime, every country turned against it. When South Africa had the apartheid, most African countries (because at that time most other countries weren't that involved) turned against it. Look at North Korea. I mean apart from Trump, no country wants anything to do with them. Look at the 2012 Dhaka garment fire. Companies left in hoards.

Today, China has a virus that they tried to cover up originally and then finally when it started spreading they tried to do something. They are now using the lockdown to enter India probably thinking that India will be too busy with the virus to notice. Everyone is calling for some measures or sanctions on China. At such a time, announcing that a Chinese app is now available to embed and see easily on an Indian platform is the wrong move.

It doesn't matter that the app is worldwide or a spinoff of a Chinese version. The fact remains that it began in China and right now perception is everything. I personally would never have cared about this, but timing is everything and the time is just not right for such a move.

Dear @BilyCat . Be sensible.there is huge diffrnce btwn youtube n  tiktok & why did they added direct embedding feature suddenly ? did any members asked for it ?

@Vijay  U r well aware of all things happening in country.

IF Dev Team ko to TikTok k videos share karna b Ban kar dena chahiye tha tabhi yeh sab laa kar kya show karna chahte he ? Agar tiktok se sponsorship mili he to thik h .

wese to rpl mujhe chahiye ni lekin agar khud ko kuch clarification dena h to jarur de dena .mujhe achha lagega lol

Every platform has both good content and bad content. If the content doesn't follow IF COC, it would be removed from IF once it gets posted. China-India issue is something which the govt is handling. If the govt bans it, no one would be posting it here or anywhere for that matter. Embedding videos doesn't make any diff other than comfort of usage. I myself had seen a lot of Indian actors and actresses being active on TikTok during this lockdown, and IF being an entertainment portal, people would want to post the videos here too.

Just read that India has banned 59 Chinese apps and TikTok is on top of the list.

This goes to show that perception is everything. Tiktok is a Chinese app. Now India has banned it. Vijay may I suggest that you ban it from the site asap else it'll look wrong on you.

If its banned in India .... will Indians be able to access it?? How does this ban work ?? No more Tiktok posts by Stars and not more sharing them anywhere ... that's it ??

Is it similar to the way many IF members cant access YouTube  in many countries ??
