SORTED AGAIN
âPrem mamu, please call Miss. Heer. Why hasnât she come for whole one week?â Tanu whined while eating breakfast. She had been asking the same question for one week and all that Prem could do was told her a different story every single day. He just couldnât tell her that Heer wouldnât come ever as he knew if Tanu would hear this she would start crying immediately. It had just one and a half week that Tanu was finally behaving normally with Prem and he didnât want to risk this.
*********************
âDr. Khurana is busy in a conference in Delhi and will come back after 2 days. So we can only suggest you to please come after two daysâ, the receptionist informed Prem. Prem cut the call in disappointment as he immediately needed to see Dr. Khurana. Tanuâs health was deteriorating from previous night after their argument over Heer and now it had become worsen.
Flashback
âMamu, why donât you call Miss Heer? Is she angry with me that she hasnât come all these days?âTanu impatiently asked Prem. This was what he was afraid ofâŠTanuâs questions. He tried to avoid it many times but seemed Tanu was now determined.
âTanu please, mamu is busy right now. Besides, I called her but she didnât pick upâ, Prem attempted to lie another time but Tanu was kind of tired of hearing the same answer. So this time when Prem lied, she immediately got up from her seat and shouted, âNo, youâre lying. I know everything. I saw you both arguing the other day in the garden. You yelled at her and thatâs why she isnât comingâ.
Prem was shocked to see this outburst. When did Tanu saw them quarreling? Oh yes, that day in the garden when he told Heer not to come back. Well, he didnât intentionally do it. He never wanted to be so rude with her but he couldnât control the initial rage and anger and mostly pain after hearing everything from Heer. But what had happened had happened and he couldnât change anything. Right now what he needed to do was to calm Tanu down. But before he could thought of anything he heard Tanu shouting again, âI know after this you will drive me out of this house to an orphanageâ and left the room.
Prem was shocked would be an understatement. He thought he had become successful to get close to his niece but he was certainly wrong and this time he felt the need of Heer the most. Only she could talk to Tanu and made her understand things. He immediately called Heer but got no response from the other side. Must be angry on me!
Flashback Ends.
He called Manmeet and explained the situation and decided to take Tanu to Manmeetâs house after Manmeet suggested that his sister was also a child counselor so she might do some help. Though, at first, Prem was hesitant a bit but after hearing Manohar that Tanu was only repeating her parentâs name in her unconscious state, he didnât think another second to do what Manmeet had suggested.
By the time Prem reached Manmeetâs house, Manmeet was ready at his door to welcome them. He led them to his sisterâs room inside which a lady was sitting on a sofa with a file in her hands. She felt someoneâs presence at the door and as soon as she looked up she was surprised to see a well known man with a child in his arms with his brother entering her room.
Prem entered the room and was astonished to see the lady whom he wanted to see from yesterday night. Heer. But what was she doing here?He couldnât hide his question. âMiss Heer, what are you doing here?â
âMr. Juneja?â Heerâs reply was more of a question than answer.
Manmeet had also noticed that surprise and shock in both their eyes so he couldnât help asking, âDo you guys know each other?â Prem was about to reply something but Heer thought it was not the best time to play question answer session. So she, in a very professional tone replied, âI think itâll be best if we first concentrate on Tanu rather than anything elseâ.
***********************
Heer came out of the room after 15 minutes and saw an anxious Prem walking to and forth in the hall of their house. âRelax Mr. Juneja, sheâll be alrightâ,Heer assured him trying not to do any eye contact with him. It was not her to hold grudges against people and she knew that Prem wasnât fully wrong that day;it was just she didnât want to let him know that she was happy to see him again but off course not in this situation.
âSee I told you my sister is best, isnât she?â Manmeet praised his sister and tried to cheer up Premâs grumpy mood. âRelax Prem. Tanu is in the hands of Indiaâs best Child Counselorâ.
Prem felt guilty of his deeds and wanted to apologize to Heer but couldnât in front of Manmeet. He was thinking what to do when Manmeet inquired again, âYou didnât tell me still how you guys know each other?â
âManmeet, she was the one I was talking about few days ago; I mean Tanuâs Counselorâ, Prem answered guiltily.
âWhat?â Manmeet was amused. âYou mean you guys know each other all these days but didnât tell me!â he faked anger.
âWell because I didnât know that you knew Mr. Juneja but I did tell you about my client, didnât I?â Heer answered smilingly.
âYeah rightâ,Manmeet agreed smilingly knowing his sister had caught his fakeness. âBut Prem you told me she didnât go to your house for three days that meansâŠâ something just clicked in his mind and he pointed at Heer, âthose days RiâŠâ before he could complete Heer cut him off. âI think we should go and check on Tanu. I had given her an injection to clam her nerves down and it has already been half an hourâ, Heer told and left the room.
Watching Heer abruptly vacant the room in the middle of a conversation left Prem bewildered and doubtful. Is she alright? He had never seen her like this. Anyway, he didnât have the right to ask. But he did have to sorry to her and he would surely do it.
***********************************
âMiss Heer, you have come!â Tanu exclaimed in joy when she saw Heer after opening her eyes. Heer smiled and caressed her hair. Tanu lie down on her lap and started crying.
âWhat happened Tanu? Why are you crying?â Heer couldnât help asking.
âHe isnât good. First he shouted on you and then shouted on me when I told him to call you and hesaid you would never come our house. Is that true?â
Now Heer understood the matter. She mustâve had an argument with Prem. But how did she know about Prem and her?
âTanu how did you know your uncle shouted on me?â Heer asked carefully.
âI saw you both quarreling that dayâ, she replied.
Heer smiled and made her sit back on bed. âTell me one thing donât you fight with your friend?â
Tanu nodded her head in agreement. Getting the expected response Heer started again, âExactly.Your mamu and I are also friends. So itâs common to fight with your friend. But that doesnât mean he is not good. In fact, he is a very good personâ.
âThen why he told you would never come back to our house?â
âThatâs because he was angry on me. But itâs ok honey. Weâll say sorry to each other and again become friendsâ, Heer replied wiping her tears. âAnd Tanu, your mamu will never make you leave the house. He loves you so much. If you donât trust him your parents will be very hurt because they loved your uncle tooâ, Heer continued.
Heer saw Tanu lifted her hand and touched the pendant that was hanging from her neck. It had her parentâs pictures in it. Tanu whispered aâsorryâ as if she was saying sorry to her parents. In this whole period what they didnât notice that a certain someone had come and stood at the door and by now, his eyes also got moisten. Heer was about to get up to call Prem but she saw he was already standing at the door. She silently emptied the room when Tanu saw him too leaving the two of them to talk.

Unknown Feelings
Prem bent down to Tanuâs height and kissed her forehead. âYou literally scared me, you knowâ?
âYou shouted on me so I thought you didnât love me like they sayâ, Tanu replied which sounded to Prem almost like whispers.
âNo, they are wrong. I love you like your parents used to doâ.
âI know. Miss Heer told meâ, replied Tanu with smile.
âOh, so anything Miss Heer tells you will believe and not me?â Prem asked with mock anger.
Tanu laughed and said, âYou are just like my mom. And I will believe you I promise but you have to do friendship with Miss Heer. She said friends fight with each other and then patch up. You both are friends, right?â
âPromise, now will you promise me something? Can we be friends?â
Tanu shook her hands with Prem with continuously smiling just like the old days.
***********************
Heer came out of the room to give a little space to the uncle and his niece. She knew Prem was a good person. I mean now-a-days who would be so kind to treat their sister or brotherâs child with so much love and care when the child had already lost its parents even whose own grandmother had abandoned it. So she just sat on the sofa in the hall and remembered her childhood days.
She didnât remember much until 8 or 9. She saw the same loneliness in Tanuâs eyes which she used to feel when she was a kid.But after Indrajit uncle and Bharti aunty arrived in her life she began to live her live. They had never made her feel alone just like Prem never made Tanu feel alone. But what about Prem? Heer could read aloofness in his eyes too and thatâs what made them similar. She was lost in her thoughts when she heard some footsteps and saw Prem and Tanu were descending the stairs with smiles on their faces.
âSeems some people have sorted out things, isnât it?â Prem heard Heer asking looking truly happy for them. Prem gave his gratitude with his smiling eyes and amazingly Heer understood it.
âSo little kid, do you wanna eat ice cream?â Manmeet asked.
âYesâ, Tanu literally screamed and went with Manmeet to the kitchen but before that Manmeet whispered to Premâs ear, âI think you need to talk to my sister about something. Go ahead. Thereâs none to disturb you twoâ, and left the place winking at Prem.
Heer was thinking how to start a conversation with Prem as they were now alone in the hall but she heard Prem apologizing âMiss Heer, I am really sorry for my behaviour that day. I didnât mean to be so rude. I just couldnât control myâŠ.â
He was cut in by Heer, ââŠpain. I know Mr. Juneja and itâs absolutely alright. You donât need to be apologizing. In fact I should be the one saying sorryâ.
Prem smiled. âSo, I guess we both are equal now and that means you are coming to our home from tomorrow?â
âNo Mr. Juneja, I wonât comeâ.
Prem was literally shocked at Heerâs answer. Hadnât she forgiven him yet? âBut you forgave me, didnât you?â
âNo, no, this isnât about forgiving you. I wonât come to your house thatâs because I donât need toâ. Sensing the confusion in Premâs eyes, she continued, âMr.J uneja, I went there to counsel Tanu and my work is over. Tanu is really alright. You just have to be a little careful that she never feels alone.Otherwise everythingâs fineâ.
âBut she wonât listen to me if you wonât comeâ.
âShe will. I will talk to her. Mr. Juneja we canât go to peopleâs house just because itâs their wish. We go to peopleâs house when they need us.Besides, I have already taken a job in Dr. Khuranaâs hospital, in the child care unit. SoâŠâ
Prem was disappointed. He never thought he would never going to see her again. He was about to leave the place when suddenly he turn around and stood exactly in front of Heer.
âCanât it be true what youâve told Tanuâ?
âWhat?â
âDo you remember the first day you visited our house you told Tanu that youâre my friend and even some time ago you told her that friends say sorry to each other and become friends again. So can we be friends?â Prem extended his hands.
âMr. Juneja, I donât need a friend as I already haveâ, Heer tried to drop the subject.
âMay be I need. May be I need someone to share my problems with. May be I need someone to laugh with. May be I need a friend. Can we?â Prem uttered staring at Heer deeply. Heer didnât know when her hands touched Premâs and her eyes touched Premâs soul. It was not that she did it purposely. There was something in his eyes which she can relate with. He truly needed someone.
They didnât know how long they were standing there and staring into each otherâs eyes. Their small eye conversation was broken by a clapping sound. They came out of their reverie and saw Manmeet standing there with Tanu on his lap.
âWoah woah woah! Prem Juneja becomes friends with a girl and that too with my sister. It should be breaking newsâ, he joked to only get an immediate glare from Prem.
âOkay, okay, wrong timingâ, Manmeet surrendered.
âI guess you guys have already sorted out things between yourselves. So why donât we just eat something. Itâs past launch timeâ, they heard Ashlesha talking to them while setting the table. Prem was about to deny but seeing Tanuâs excitement he agreed.
*******************************
âWhy did you stop me telling him about Rishabh?â Manmeet asked Heer as they sat for their afternoon tea.
âBecause I didnât want him to know and before you start âcome on, be braveâ or something like that, let me tell you that I am not afraid. I just donât want to disclose our personal matter to someone strangerâ, Heer reasoned.
âYou just considered him as a friend a few hours ago Heer. How can you say like that? Besides as far as Prem is concerned, he isnât like other peopleâ. Manmeet was visibly angry on her.
âYouâre taking me wrong Manu. I donât think of him like other people. I just donât want to involve him. However, he already has problems in his life. So why one more?â
âI think she is right, Manmeetâ. Ashlesha uttered but knowing that Manmeet wouldnât take it nicely she continued, âBut Heer if you really consider him as friend then tell himâŠnot now but after some timeâ.
âBut I donât understand why should I tell anyone to what happened? I mean itâs not so important,â Heer was adamant not to tell him.
âBecause I think he likes youâ, Manmeet sounded confident.
âWhat? Manu, are you mad? How can you even think like that?â Heer couldnât suppress her anger.
âWhy Heer, Whatâs the problem in it?â This time Ashlesha couldnât hold back her wish.
âBecause Ash, he nearly hated me some time ago. I agree that now we are friends but that doesnât mean that you both start thinking of something else. So please stop running the horses of your imaginary mind and give me a breakâ. Heer made her stand clear and almost stormed out of the room.
âItâs going to be difficultâ. Manmeet sighed thinking of Heer and Prem.

START A FRESH
âHeer, I have heard what youâve done the other day for Tanu. Thank you so muchâ, Dr. Khurana expressed his gratitude to Heer after Prem told him about Tanuâs condition.
âYouâre embarrassing me, sir. You have taught me to help others. Thought I donât practice now but you have trained me so well that I can at least do that. Besides, Tanu was my responsibility so thereâs nothing to thank forâ, Heer answered politely.
âSo are you sure to take the job to the child care unit of my hospital? I know you might bethinking why I offered you this job. Actually Heer, there are so many children in this world who donât need a doctor or a psychiatrist but a friend who can be just like them. And who can be better than a child counselor?â
âYes sir, I can understandâ.
âOh Heer, I forgot to tell you that we will soon transfer this child unit to another hospital. It will be our new collaboration with K&K Childâs Care. I hope you will be comfortable there as wellâ.
**********************
âHey Prem, how are you?â this was the first voice that Prem heard after waking up in the morning. He was checking his voice mails and the first voice was of someoneâshe wished to never hear again. It was Sanjana, his motherâs best friendâs daughter and a big headache. He thought to reply her later. First he needed to talk to his mother who had sent the next voice mail literally declaring that Sanjana was coming to India next month and would be staying with him. How could she even think like that knowing his dislike for that girl?
But before he could call his mother his eyes fell on the clock and it shocked him. It was 9.30. He was supposed to meet some people at 10 Oâclock regarding his new project and here he was still in his night suit sitting on his bed. He jumped out of the bed and went to get ready. After 20 minutes he came down only to exit the house shouting he would eat something in office as he was late.
*******************************
âThank you so much Dr. Khurana for agreeing to become a part of our new hospitalâ. Prem came to Dr. Khuranaâs hospital on the suggestion of Manmeet as his company was making a hospital specially designed for children. It wouldnât be like regular hospitals with only doctors and nurses but it would be a place where the children could come and play. There would be some child counselors to help the doctors with child psychology. This would be the perfect place for those children who needed counseling to return to normal life or those whose parents were too busy to take care of them.
This idea came to Premâs mind right after Tanu came into his life. He was a victim of this loneliness so he didnât want to delay the process. Now the building was ready and also the doctors and the stuffs have been appointed. Only the children rooms will be designed and decorated by a child specialist. Though he couldâve hired an interior decorator but he really didnât need a decorator but someone who could relate to this place. So he opted for a child specialist, either a counselor or a doctor.
âItâs all right, Prem. In fact, I am grateful to you for allowing me to collaborate with this project.Oh yes, I have appointed someone. Youâll be glad to know who the person isâ.Dr. Khurana called someone and a lady came in.
Prem was happy to see Heer in front of him but he had some questions. Reading the questions in his eyes Dr. Khurana decided to answer them.
âMr. Juneja, I have appointed Heer to help you with the hospital. I hope you have no problemâ.
âOnly if Miss Heer has no problemâ, Prem answered which was more like he threw the ball in Heerâs court. Dr. Khurana noticed Premâs expressions which were clearly telling how happy he was. So he turned to look at Heer who was surprised at first and then smiled at Prem.
*********************************
âMamu, are you telling the truth? Are you really working with Miss Heer?â
âYes Tanu, really. This is the 5th time you are asking this question to meâ. Prem smiled at his nieceâs childishness. Suddenly he thought something and asked her, âTanu, if you want you can come with me and meet her tomorrowâ.
âReally mamu? But how can we go tomorrow as tomorrow is Sundayâ. At first she was really excited but remembering about Sunday all her excitement about meeting Heer faded away.
Prem felt like a fool not to remember about the weekend. But then he couldnât miss the chance. As much as Tanu wanted to meet Heer so did Prem. He himself didnât realize when he started liking Heer. Well, not that he hated her but from last couple of days he started enjoying her company though they didnât get much time to spend because of the work. So what? At least he could see her everyday. He hurriedly sent a message to his assistant stating to send mails to all the stuffs about Tomorrowâs emergency work. He couldnât just call Heer thatâs why he had to call everyone to the hospital.
âTanu, elders can work on Sundaysâ. Prem told Tanu and promised to take her with him.
***********************************
âMiss Heerâ, Tanu literally screamed once she reached the hospital. Luckily Heer was at the reception so she immediately recognized the voice and was quite surprised to see the little girl. She walked up to Tanu and took her in her arms. âHow do you reach hereâ?
Before Tanu could answer anything Heer heard Premâs voice from behind. âSorry Miss Maan, she was insisting to meet you. Actually she was missing you so I couldnâtâŠâ
âItâs ok Mr. Juneja, you donât need to give an explanationâ. Heer smiled at Prem. She turned her attention back to Tanu when Prem again said, âMiss Maan, you can get some time off as your biggest client is hereâ.Heer was quick enough to catch the meaning and both laughed.
After Prem made his exit Heer came to her room with Tanu. She was really happy to see Tanu after all these days. Though she talked to Prem about Tanu almost every day but actually meeting this little angel gave her a comfort. A new thing had also happened in all these days and that was her friendship with Prem had reached to a certain comfort level; letâs say he was funny opposite of her imagination and had the ability to make her smile in every situation. She kind of started liking this manâŠonly as a good human being and as a friend.
Her chain of thoughts was broken by Tanu. âMiss Heer, what are you thinking?â
âNothing, I was just thinking what should we do today?â
âWe will play but first will you hear a secret? Itâs about Prem mamuâ.
Heer was curious to hear what secret did this little girl know? She nodded and Tanu literally whispered, âPrem mamu lied to you. I never insisted to meet you. Remember, you told you will meet me whenever you get time. It was Prem mamu who took me here.Actually he was missing youâ. Tanu completed her sentence and started giggling.
âTanu, how do you know all this?â Heer was serious.
âManohar uncle told me. He told me that Prem mamu was missing you but he will never tell anyone. In fact, he likes youâ.
As soon as Tanu completed Heer became speechless. No, this shouldnât be happening. She couldnât afford to lose another good friend. But what could she do. She couldnât just go and asked him this. She could no way risk this friendship, at least not now when she had finally found a true friend after so many years. She needed to think of something.
