Bodies of warriors weren't preserved. Thousands of carnivorous creatures devoured those bodies.

All the funerals happened after the war.  It's all described by Gandhari in Stri Parva.



Also, one of the biggest distortions in this serial: Duryodhan never got to know who Karna really was, much less do his cremation.  Kunti revealed it to her sons in Stri Parva, after they were done doing the rites of everybody else.  Ramanand Sagar's Shri Krishna shows it quite well, although I thought that the presence of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari there was unwarranted.


Another distortion: Parikshit wasn't born then and there: he was born 3 months later, when the Pandavas were out trying to gather wealth for the Ashwamedha yagna.  Krishna arrived at Hastinapur, where Uttara had delivered Parikshit, who was instantly 'killed' by the Brahmashira, and resurrected the baby.  It happened long after Bheeshma's death
