Episode begins with Dev vrata reaching Hastinapur palace and informing his father Shantanu how he had fought n thwarted attack by Shalva army lhe also presents war prisoner Shalva Kumar .Maha mantri advises Shalva Kumar was son of enemy n he should be treated like all enemies n killed . Dev vrata requests the king to forgive him n win over enemies with love ... killing with hatred will aggravate enmity between states .

Shantanu agrees n all like his argument n Shalva Kumar is released to return to his state .

Shantanu then declares Dev vrata as the crown prince n names him heir to the throne after him .

The entire kingdom hails the decision happily n welcomes the decision .

Shantanu and Dev vrata then go for outing ... Shantanu meets beautiful maiden ...the daughter Satyavati who was princess of the kingdom of Matsaraj ... Shantanu falls in love with her .

He wa go to marry her ..Matsyaraj agrees to give his daughter in marriage to Shantanu only if her son would be allowed to ascend the throne . Shantanu had already names Dev vrata as heir so he could not agree to the conditions of Matsyaraj n so he separates from his beloved Matsyakanya Satyavati 

Dev vrata finds his father very depressed .. he asks Maha MA tri about it but no one can provide answers .

Dev vrata then finds out about his love for Satyavati n the conditions placed for the marriage . Dev. Raat then assures Matsyaraj that satyavati’s sona would ascend the throne as Dev vrata would not marry or produce any heirs .

He takes a Bhushan Pratibha . The heavens shower their blessings on Bhisham for this supreme sacrifice of remaining unmarried life long only for the happiness of his father .he gets blessed with ichhamrityu... death will come to him when he wished . Dev vrata is given the title of Bhishm .... Shantanu is I happy about it but he is persuaded to marry the maiden he loved . Satyavati n Shantanu get married .

Shantanu’s ministers express displeasure over Dev vrat’s removal from being in line to the throne Dev vrata then explains to them the correct decisions .

Shantanu is worried that Dev vrata was so fit for the throne in all ways ..what if his future brothers are not fit for the throne of Hastinapur ?? Devrata promises he will stand by the ruler of Hastinapur all his life . Shantanu is somewhat relieved .

Hastinapur kulguru then hands Kripacharya as the Kulguru as the next Raj Guru . He informs Devrata how Kripacharya was rescued by Shantanu .. he also learns kul guru’s sister Kripi  was married to Dronacharya . Devrata states Dronacharya was now their relative . shantanu is unhappy about dis inheritance of Dev vrata n his BrahmAcharya vrat ....life long celibacy ..He spends the rest of his live in grief n regret n misery  over beloved son  Bhishm 

Two sons are eventually born to Satyavati ...Chitrangad and Vichitravir 

Shantanu breathes his last leaving the care of his two sons To Bhishm
