"Bas, Mini, bas. Main ab aur nahi sun sakta." He couldn't help the thin layer of tears that was visibly shining in his eyes. The more he listened to what Mini had gone through, the more he wished to find everyone who had hurt her and break them in the worst way possible.
"Nahi, Neil. Kehlene do mujhe aaj. Bohot time se... dil me... kehlene do." After quite a while, she had let anyone see her melt down without being conscious about the same. She hadn't allowed anyone to see her vulnerable self but she was letting Neil not just see it but be a part of it.
He had to blink for several times to fight off his tears before he shifted closer to her, softly took her palm in his, and continued hearing every bit of her suffering.
They had sat for hours in silence even after she finished. He had sat there for hours even after she slept. Staring at her tear stricken sleeping form, he couldn't deny how deeply he had fallen for her. Enough deeply to have his heart shattering in pieces with her every tear.
"Not anymore, Mini. Not anymore." He brought her palm closer and let his lips linger on it. That night, he promised her to stand between her and any harm coming over her. That night, he challenged universe to try and hurt his Mini. That night, he vowed to himself to be her shield, to protect her from anything and everything that would dare to even attempt a scratch on her.
