Anurag is paddling fast on his bicycle as he rushes to complete a silly errand of his elder brother. He has to buy a bunch of roses for his current girl friend. He could not help feeling disgusted as his brother changed girl friends faster than his socks, while Anurag had a squeaky clean reputation as far as girls were concerned.
Being an architecture student, his gaze drifts away from the road and marvels at the masonry of the visual extravaganza, popularly called the Victoria Memorial. He suddenly feels his cycle getting imbalanced and he falls with a thud.
As realisation dawns on to him, he notices that his cycle had got entangled with dupatta of a girl who was cycling past him. He is scared as the girl is knocked semiconscious as her head hit the road. Being a Kolkata resident he knew that knocking down a girl meant getting surrounded by passers by, like a swarm of angry bees waiting to suck his blood. He wastes no time in calling up his servant to pick up both bicycles from the location, while he rushes her to nearest hospital by taxi.
He fumes as to why didn’t girls wear trousers like guys? Why do they have to wear clothing that floats around and unleashes on the unsuspecting? He gets distracted as she stutters him a thanks for rescuing her and apologizes for the accident. She then faints leaving him a bit worried . He tries to dab her bleeding forehead with his spotless handkerchief. She could be in her late teens, he surmises while he stares at her. He couldn’t help noticing her flawless creamy complexion, her long eyelashes on her fair cheeks as he held her head in his lap.
Her lips are like rosebuds and her long hair feel so soft and silky. She is without any make up or any adornments, yet she is so charming. Anurag feels an immense attraction towards this stranger girl, compounded several times by a faint scent of roses that wafts from the sleeping beauty. He reprimands himself for losing control, his vital skill to force his emotions not to hijack him failed. He stares at the girl in disbelief. Anurag finds this new found emotional turbulence inexplicable. As he reaches home after completion of hospital formalities, he feels relieved on being able to help her.
His servant informs about the girl’s mobile ringing many times, asking for the packet she was supposed to deliver. Anurag takes the next call and rushes off on his scooty to deliver the packet he finds on her bicycle to the address given. He is surprised to see that it was a school for visually handicapped children. She was carrying candies, rose flavoured pastries and cupcakes for all the children for the birthday of little Runi. The childrens' happiness knows no bounds and they start jumping in excitement on knowing about the arrival of the gifts for all of them.
The teacher hands over the balloons, candies along with cupcakes to all the children. Runi asks him about Prerna didi as she had promised to be with them today. He decides not to spoil the fun of these tender hearts and he assures them that she was held up and so sent him instead. He feels an unique joy in making friends with these visually handicapped as he admires their confidence and intelligence. He is overwhelmed to see the way they love Prerna. He feels even more attracted to Prerna for giving so much affection to these children.
The teacher informs him that Prerna is especially attached to Runi as she was the one who adopted her when Runi’s own parents abandoned her outside an orphanage. Runi had found her mother in Prerna and he feels sorry to see her missing Prerna just because of him. Prerna made him realize that beauty of life is more about giving happiness to others rather than our own happiness. A few days later a call from Prerna thanking him for everything he did, makes his heart go pitter-patter without any explanatory prelude. He can't hide his smile reminiscing her and her serene beauty.
He recollects the day when he first saw her, the fragrance of roses along with the candies, cakes and pastries for the children was something he can't forget. She has sucked him into a zone he is not ready to come out of. His chances of meeting this girl again seemed too far fetched, but hope floated in the air like a pollen, whether they would settle on his dream flower or perish midway depended on this dream girl , who has made a special place in his heart. He knew his heart would lead him to her one day surely.
