So very true! Some poetry (I particularly feel this way about Ghalib) is evergreen. Take a simple sher like this for instance -
Har ek baat pe kehte ho tum, ke tu kya hai?
Tumhi kaho, ke ye andaaz-e-guftugu kya hai?
When is this ever going to be wanting in relevance? ^
Ahhhh! Ghalib is evergreen. I think there’s something for practically every situation.
I am not even exaggerating for a moment here but that sher just made me feel something indescribable.
My favorite sher to justify my unreasonable disposition at times.. or even otherwise:
ham ko ma.alūm hai jannat kī haqīqat lekin
dil ke ḳhush rakhne ko 'ġhālib' ye ḳhayāl achchhā hai

Oh this is an evergreen one too! I have another one of his that I often quote when I am feeling supremely annoyed/frustrated in life-
Na tha kuchh toh Khuda tha, kuchh na hota toh Khuda hota
Duboya mujhko hone ne, na hota main toh kya hota?
Cracks me up!
And because we're speaking of Ghalib and how evergreen he is, in his own words-
Hui muddatt ki Ghalib marr gaya par yaad aata hai
Woh harr ek baat pe kehna ke yun hota to kya hota

Or this one to justify being a shadow of your previous self, especially in love:
ishq ne 'ġhālib' nikammā kar diyā
varna ham bhī aadmī the kaam ke

If I could swap the "ishq" for "IPK", that sums me up neatly 😆
Nida and WIAN, thank you for introducing me to some beautiful poetry.
Here we were borrowing poetry from the mouths of the legends, and another legend meanwhile seems to have conjured one of her own. Waah-waahs are due.
In reply, I will quote a famous poet who went by the name of 'Majaz'-
Khud dil mein rehke, aankh se pardaa kare koii
Han lutf jab hai, paa ke bhi dhuunda kare koii
😆
Legend 🤣🤣🤣
Loving this exchange of amazing quotes, poems and shayari from everyone!!

I think IPK would be the starting point of insanity but then “ishq” led to,
chupke chupke raat din aañsū bahānā yaad hai
ham ko ab tak āshiqī kā vo zamānā yaad hai
Oh full credit to WIAN for initiation!! ♥️
