These are strange and difficult times, and here's something hopeful for everyone grappling with the situation out there-
itnā bhī nā-umīd dil-e-kam-nazar na ho
mumkin nahīñ ki shām-e-alam kī sahar na ho
"disheartened or short-sighted O heart you need not be
this night of sorrow surely will a dawn tomorrow see"*
-Naresh Kumar Shad

Millat ke sath Rabta -e- ustawar rakh..
Pewasta reh shajr se,umeed e bahar rakh!
Allama Iqbal
Here we can extend Millat (nation)to Humanity..
We all should do what is expected of us at this crucial time..
Pls be safe n keep others safe !!!!!

Kab hogi iss shaam e alam ki sahar... kab khilenge iss veerane mein naye lafzon ke gul...
I was watching a programme which spoke of Faiz's gulon mein rang and I looked out the window and saw the matla literally laid out in all its glory and I couldn't help but think of this thread. I know Nida and you have already mentioned this one, but...
guloñ meñ rañg bhare bād-e-nau-bahār chale
chale bhī aao ki gulshan kā kārobār chale
And another one which has been spoken of, but...
kuchh to mire pindār-e-mohabbat kā bharam rakh
tū bhī to kabhī mujh ko manāne ke liye aa
❤️
Tere wadey pe jiye tou ye samajh ke jhoot jana..
Ke khushi se mar na jatey agar eitebar hota..
Khataa maaf, khataaein toh ham se hongi zarur
Ki ye toh fitrat-e-adam hai, kya kiya jaye
-Purnam Allahabadi

How lovely! Quoting my favorite from Iqbal-
Issi roz-o-shab mein ulajh kar na reh ja,
Ke tere zamaan-o-makaan aur bhi hain
Sitaron se aage jahaan aur bhi hain,
Abhi ishq ke imtehaan aur bhi hain..
Kab hogi iss shaam e alam ki sahar... kab khilenge iss veerane mein naye lafzon ke gul...
Ye gul khil rahaa hai, vo murjha rahaa hai,
Asar do tarah ke, havaa ek hii hai
-Lakhnavi

Two of my favorites, right there.

Will these words ever fail to break my heart? Such longing, such pain. Speaking of 'shikwa' between lovers-
Tum jo bichde ho jaldbaazi mein,
Yaar, tum ruuth bhi toh sakte the
-Preet Goswami
and this one-
To watch blooming flowers and be reminded of the beloved. Like Faraz said,
Main ne uss jaan-e-bahaaran ko bohot yaad kiya,
Jab koi phuul, meri shaakh-e-hunar par nikla
This is the poetry teaser that I had in mind for the next chapter:
baat karnī mujhe mushkil kabhī aisī to na thī
jaisī ab hai tirī mahfil kabhī aisī to na thī
le gayā chhīn ke kaun aaj tirā sabr o qarār
be-qarārī tujhe ai dil kabhī aisī to na thī
us kī āñkhoñ ne ḳhudā jaane kiyā kyā jaadū
ki tabī.at mirī maa.il kabhī aisī to na thī
pā-e-kūbāñ koī zindāñ meñ nayā hai majnūñ
aatī āvāz-e-salāsil kabhī aisī to na thī
chashm-e-qātil mirī dushman thī hamesha lekin
jaisī ab ho ga.ī qātil kabhī aisī to na thī
Some trivia for my fellow poetry lovers - The above ghazal has been penned by none other than the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar himself. Known as the 'poet king', Zafar was not only a great lover of poetry, but was himself a prolific poet too. There have been several renditions of this particular piece, including those by legends like Mehdi Hassan and Jagjit Singh. I'm leaving my favorite version below for those interested-
