Rape Case Against Alok Nath Likely to Get Shut Acc to Mumbai Police

The MeToo movement may have slowed down, at least in terms of having different cases popping up. However, amidst the many cases that already created a stir, it was the one against actor Alok Nath that created the maximum noise.

For the uninitiated, Writer-producer Vinta Nanda accused Alok Nath of rape in a Facebook post and later filed a police complaint against him last year. Following that, several other women also came forward and filed different cases against the actor too.

However, according to latest reports, Mumbai Police may be shutting the case down due to lack of evidence soon. It has been over ten months since Vinita filed the case but Oshiwara Police couldn't gather sufficient evidence against the actor to file a charge sheet. An officer at the Oshiwara Police Station spoke to Mid-Day as he said, "We have recorded a detailed statement of the victim. Two witnesses were called to the police station a number of times but they haven't yet recorded their statements."

In January, Alok Nath was granted anticipatory bail by Mumbai sessions court. While announcing the bail, the court observed that Vinta Nanda "did not lodge the report immediately after the alleged incident for her own benefit". The court has said that the possibility cannot be ruled out that the applicant [Alok Nath] has been falsely accused in the crime.
