SPM~ My Musings~26.6.19 ~ The wail of a woman in labour!
Zainab’s rescue process of Saltanat, right from the start bore a likeness to a woman giving birth. Reminded me of the torture and pain a woman undergoes through the process of giving birth to its baby. For me it was not coincidental that Sultanat was enclosed in a box, chest or perhaps her mothers womb. On the outside Saltanat was surrounded by water.Zainab’s, wails, her cries to her god appeared so laborious. Like a mother, enduring conractions! she hammers open the lock! Expels her child from the womb as it were, and breaks her child free her from the waters of the sac! Brings her child, out into the world! Frantically ensures her child lives! As a mother, Zainab, prompts her child’s breathing by reiterating Saltanat has to live as Zaroon waits for her! Zainab gives Saltanat a new birth! Wraps her cold trembling baby in the mantle of warm maternal love!
My musing is based on the speculation that Saltanat too might be Zainab’s own child, alongside Kainat. Symbolically the appearance of the swan and it’s cygnets, as trackers to Zainab, also led me to further believe that Zainab is Saltanat’s real mother as opposed to Rubina, Zainab , may well be seen as the swan figure itself..An image of maternal, grace and beauty. One that brings protection and rescue for the sinking, drowning Saltanat. Once stable at the side of the pool, Zainab, symbolic of the swan, again reminds a revived Saltanat, that she has to see Zaroon to establish the purity and devotion of their love! their lasting partnership .The figure of the swan also relates to transformation. Zainab, touches upon the change that has to happen. That Zaroon has to marry Saltanat! not Kainat, as arranged!
The hammer that Zainab uses to smash Kainat’s lock on the chest, relates to Zainab’s attempt at breaking the misdeeds of Kainat’s hardened heart. We see that Zainab now holds a strong mindset of defeating mores o Kainat’s evil plot of marrying Zaroon rather than Saltanat’s love winning. This in itself is quite a transformation in Zainab , as seen by the survived Saltanat, who was once bound by Zainab’s oath of saving Kainat’s life. Zainab’s support, now makes Saltanat strong enough to confront Kainat and meet Zaroon. Both now seem in agreement, that Kainat should not be allowed to get away with her trickery and deception. As she playing with three lives a not just hers.
Zaroon, is like a dead man, read to be sacrificed. Spiritually severed he muses with Saltanat’s broken, glass bangle piece.. even disappointed he still waits for her arrival. Feels cheated that she is not present at the wedding venue to watch, he is doing what she desired of him. Even the Iman senses the groom’s heart is not in the milestone he is about to undertake. But then as always, Mamoon speaks for Zaroon that all is well.
Zaroon’s musings about Saltanat, contrast with Kainat and Sabina’s sibilant whisperings. What if both Zainab and worse still, if Sultanat shows up? Sabina guarantees nothing of the sort will happen. She speculates Sultanat to be dead! and Zainab still under lock and key!
Sabina without any moral restrictions, poses in the role of the bride’s mother! Kainat hoodwinks Mainjaan, tells him her mother might be held up in the traffic! Besides her mother bade her not to delay the nikah, she’ll be there shortly! I doubt if there is an auspicious hour issue here.. as is, in a Hindu wedding.. she justs wants the nikah done and dusted asap!
Little do the pair of conniving vixens Sabina and Kainat know that a scooter! bearing the new-age independent girl moves stoically towards the new goal in life, escorted by truth itself, Zainab ,the swan, who has just set her free!
Of course getting to the nikah venue will pose problems. Closed door for starters! more challenges ,which a rejuvenated, yet restored by Zainab , Sultanat feels, she can handle by taking another route! Drop out of the sky! right into Zaroon ‘s arms! the groom meant for Kainat ,but truly her Sufiyana love. Her action is her bold confession!
Right! Let me share with you now. Why I enjoyed this episode! yes some of my readers might have guessed it.. it;'s my cricket fever! Bravo! CV’s for incorporating and capturing the at present cricket obsession and love for the sport that all Indians and Pakistani’s share when playing against each other! How the streets are empty, peoples of both nations, are glued to their telly screens or radios! Such fervour ! viewing, adrenalin pumping time with friends and family! The best bit for me was the historic match was played on my home ground! and yes the game was well played! and the better team won! Good for them! giving peoples of both countries, some great moments!
In SPM too..there was a Ind/Pak match feeling! Team Saltanat and team Kainat! it was amusing to watch, that most men were more interested in the scores, rather than the marriage proceedings! There is tough competition !between the two! Both players use their own game tactics! either fair or foul! The game is still on! tomorrow. We shall find out which of the two cousins win the trophy and the man of the match award!!
Kainat dressed as a bride, glares at her would be groom Zaroon, who communicates with a broken piece of bangle in his palm.. Kainat sneers as she muses, she is not complaining ,but has noticed that he does not value, those who value him.. 26.6.19.hamlet53.
