Bath arrangement
The evening water supply was beginning to fill up the lower tank
The hose had a hole in it and there was no water pump so they filled up the two upper tanks by buckets
Trisha knew more water was needed now that there were three addl people in the house
She filled up one of the upper tanks half way through as Ashvin took a nap in the chair he first sat on
Leela slept on her "new" fixed cot in her room after spending endless minutes staring at the walls adorned with pictures of Trisha with Vijaya, Trisha's school pictures, from 5th standard onwards to college
She spotted Trisha in every picture
"what are you doing?" Ashvin spoke gruffly holding the grill twin door standing on the top step
"Just filling water" she said matter of factly
"where is the rest room?" he asked
She pointed to the door in the far corner of the back wall
Past the coconut trees
Twilight was setting in
Salty breeze swayed the palms, the jackfruit leaves rustled noisily as if they sensed there was someone new at home
When he returned to wash his hands, she poured from the small brass pot
"thats quaint" he smiled
"Old no?" she smiled
"You dont care for plastic?" he asked curiously
"It becomes slippery no... umm... I know the konkani word" she said
"Soap scum?" he offered
She nodded sincerely
"And it will break every time" she explained
"I wnat to take a shower.."
"Oh?" she looked on sadly
"I mean bath... sorry" he said
"Now?"
"yeah?"
"Oh... u can use that tank water" she informed politely
"Out here?" he asked shocked
"Nobody is seeing you no" she told him blandly
"thanks" he burst out laughing as she blushed
"the walls are so high" she waved the brass pot to show him
He nodded
"there is a bathroom also I presume?" he asked mischievously
"yes... its there, she pointed to the left corner.. a couple tiles missing from the roof
"No running water there also" she told him
"thats fine" he said
They exchanged a awkward glance as he went back up, returning with his towel and soap
She stepped out of the sub tank
"Water from down there too?" he asked as the sub tank filled up in a trickle
"Mostly take from here" she said sternly
"yes Ma'am" he nodded
She went back up"
She heard him holler her name
She went back out... he was on the steps of the sub tank, tryingt o work the faucet
"what happened?"
"the water stopped" he said
"I told no... dont use this one... its still filling up... now it wont come"
"what are you talking about?" he was baffled
"No... u stop it... then it stops" she scolded
She wiggled it..." nope!!
"You dont listen... now there is no water... it sometimes doesnt come in the morning" she was upset
"trish"
"Its OK" she sulked trying to work the old chrome rusty faucet
He bend down and scooped up a brass pot full of water from the top tank and sloshed her
"Ashwinnn" she shrieked
She grabbed his pot
"stop it" she warned
"sorry... can I finish my bath"
"U havent started only"
"Umm.. I would if I have something to scoop water with"
"First"
"take off my clothes?" he grinned
"No... u can take bath with clothes... Aaanu always wears dhoti" she told him primly
"Darn it" he whispered
"Trish" he reached for the pot
She dodged hiding it
He picked up the half filled brass bucket laying nearby and poured over her
She gasped and choked in shock
He gently dragged her towards him
"Ashwinnn" she dropped the much dimpled pot all over again
her chest did that funny tripping thing again
He brought his mouth down on a scorchingly hot kiss that sent fire coursing through her veins and remained untouched by her damp moist body
His lips and tongue working its magic on her, sucking on her lower lip... sending raw urgent need rushing to her head
"ashwinnn" she whimpered
He held her close... "can I take that bath now?" he chuckled on her lip
Prakash had come back from half way to pick up shrimp from the old new frig
He set foot on the first step to the back courtyard.. and backed away... picked up the two flat square slabs of shrimp wrapped into one with a
konkani newspaper, and jute yarn... with a center bow
