ADOPTED INDIAN FROM SWEDEN REUNITED WITH BIOLOGICAL INDIAN MOTHER

Nilakshi Elizabeth Jorendal, is a Swedish national born of Indian origin. She was adopted by a foreign couple in 1976. They had her biological mother 42 kms from Mumbai in Yavatmal. Ms. Jorendal, the adopted baby is now 44. She was the baby adopted by the Swedish couple, She was just a three year old baby when she was adopted. Now, Ms. Jorendal, has managed to track her biological mother, with the help of Anjali Pawar, who is a part of a Pune-based NGO called "Against Child Trafficking.

"It was an emotional gathering Saturday at the Yavatmal government hospital, where the mother-daughter duo burst into tears, Pawar said. "Nilakshi, who was on a mission to track down her biological parents, had met her mother briefly before, but this was a more elaborate public meeting, Pawar said. The biological father of Jorendal, an agricultural worker, committed suicide in 1973, when she was born in the refuge of the Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission and her foster home in Kedgaon, near Pune.

Mrs. Jorendal's mother had left her there. She later remarried, and has a son and a daughter from the second marriage. They were also present at the hospital on Saturday, Pawar said. The government gave Mrs. Jorendal for adoption to a Swedish couple in 1976.
