Child marriage was never a part of our original culture. It originated from the Mughal rulers who invaded India. People wanted to protect their womenkind from them so married them off as children, as Mughal Kings did not do anything to married women.
This proves that the Valmiki Ramayana we have now has been tampered with to some extent, because child marriage would not exist in that era. Women were married after they 'came of age' which would be in their teenage years, anywhere from 13-16 years.
