After the no-run of Abhishek Bachchan starrer Run, Boney Kapoor strikes back with Amitabh Bachchan (in an extended special appearance) in Samir Karnik's Kyun? Ho Gaya Na! Samir Karnik formerly assisted Vidhu Vinod Chopra on Kareeb (1998) and also had a minuscule bit role in the film.
Kyun! Ho Gaya Na is a situational romantic comedy. The film stirred news throughout its making for the smooth on and off screen chemistry between its lead romantic pair Aishwarya Rai and Vivek Oberoi. Aishwarya also reportedly offers her first onscreen smooch in this film, which goes to lucky lovebird Vivek Oberoi.
Diya Malhotra (Aishwarya Rai) is an idealistic, sensitive girl whose childhood was spent in the coffee plantation town of Coorg. Malhotra (Tinnu Anand) single-handedly brought up Diya, after his wife passed away.
Malhotra has a dear friend Raj Chauhan (Amitabh Bachchan), a confirmed bachelor who has dedicated his life to a small orphanage he has in his home. Diya has been involved with the work there and is committed to social Work. For her Masters in social work exam, she comes to Mumbai.
In unusual circumstances, she meets Arjun Khanna (Vivek Oberoi). Arjun is a seemingly free spirited, fun loving, adventurous guy. Once she arrives in Mumbai they realize that they will be staying in the same house since Arjun's parents (Om Puri & Rati Agnihotri) are Malhotra's friends.
The friendship that develops between Diya and Arjun and consequently their opposing views on love and marriage are at the heart of the film.
A simple story about love and life!
The film also stars Suniel Shetty and Dia Mirza in important cameos who turn out at the climax of the film to form the surprise element. The supporting cast comprises of Ajit Ahuja, Gaurav Gera, Rishi Raj and Rahul Maharya. The film has music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, which is already topping the charts for it's retro feel. Javed Akhtar has written the lyrics and Raju Sundaram has choreographed the songs.
Kyun Ho Gaya Na will release in August 2004.
