Good news for all Mohanlal fans out there, the superstar is all set to finally start work on his 2014 project - Randamoozham. And guess what, the movie will be made on an extravagant budget of Rs 600 crore! Yes, that's right! Well, from the looks of it, we finally have a movie that will beat Baahubali and 2.0's budget. He confirmed this news on a TV show recently.
The film will reportedly be based on M T Vasudevan Nair's novel Randamoozham that narrates the Mahabharatham from Bheemam's perspective. Mohanlal will play the the main lead. But as of now, the director for this ambitious project hasn't been finalised. Hariharan, ad film maker Sreekumar were being considered, as per reports in a leading daily, but there have been no official announcements. The reports further stated that in 2014, when this project was announced, the other members of the cast were confirmed to be the following - Aishwarya Rai would star as Draupadi, Amitabh Bachchan would star as Bheeshmar, Vikram as Arjuna, even Nagarjuna was to play a lead role. AR Rahman was to handle to the music for this mythological magnum Opus, while Baahubali art director Sabu Cyril was to hop on board as well. We can't wait to hear further details! Also, here's another surprise, Mohanlal hinted at retiring in a few years from the industry. "Within a few years I will take a decision regarding the retirement," said the actor during the show. So will Randamoozham be his last project?In other news, Mohanlal is busying shooting for 1971 - Beyond Borders, a prequel to Kurukshetra. This movie is reportedly part of the Major Mahadevan series. He will also be part of another director's debut, starting this Jan. Also, Mohanlal's Christmas release - Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is yet to release!
Last year was phenomenal for Mohanlal, as he had 4 releases - Manamantha, Janatha Garage, Oppam and Pulimurugan. The latter three performed phenomenally at the Box office. In fact Pulimurugan went on to become the first ever Malaylam movie to cross the Rs 100 crore mark.
