Please add a third option.

Both are equally bad - from a emotional perspective

Ashish - does NOT provide all of their needs.  His wife Asha is afraid to meet her neighbours eye-to-eye and hides behind closed windows and doors when he is around.  Ashish is not better - he is afraid to acknowledge them as family - so parks his car far away, bribes the parking attendant to keep his mouth shut about his presence, and walks a distance to visit with them.  Avni and Asha have their own emotional, mental, and societal problems because he is does not want to meet their needs!

I agree. Equally both are bad. Asha father was irresponsible. Just married and didnt bother to take any responsibilities that come with a marriage.
And Ashish neither gave relationship name nor responsibilities. Responsibities doesnt mean just home and money. It means more than that. The emotional dependency, togetherness, and all others.

their needs means only food and house and other expenses that's what said ...if he had given all the other things like you said we shouldn't be discussing here about Ashish ..he is bad no doubt ..

If its only only about food and home as needs. Then Asha parents were like divorced couple without alimony for the wife. Meaning lived together as much as possible then they depart to lead their own lives as per they capacity.

And Asha and Ashish- a dependency live in relationship sort of. Meaning live in relationship, couple are independent of their lives, earnings etc. but here, Asha is dependent and they are not open to society.

I think Asha's dad is better than Rishab . At least Asha has a surname. The last name is very important for both girls n boys.
It is true that Avni loves her dad now but once she knows the whole truth she'll raise many questions and will confront her dad . Everywhere u go u'll have to give ur full name . Many people can't get marry nor work sometimes only because they don't have a surname .
U can live, work  without having a kind father who cares about u, even u have the choise to hate him for letting u alone through life difficulties. But what does it mean if ur father loves u but he can't give u at least ur right? ur name, ur identity? is it that difficult ?
Her love will turn into hate when she will face the society .

That's exactly i thought ...if your dad leaves you ..you have to suffer and work hard to earn money ..do some job or jhadu poncha if you are not educated but you living illegitimate life is shameful for child ..no wonder she is angry all the time

Food and house can be earned by self by work based on ones capabilities. but pehchan is important. Be it father name or husband name or her own name.An identity of an individual is important.
Thats story concept. Avni finally gonna say her own name is her identity.. need not be tagged by a surname of father or husband.

Being Viraf Fan I will always support him.

But the reason is that he married her because he loves her. He doesn't leave her because of some other girl. It's his mom who doesn't want to accept as she is a Muslim.

He doesn't want to marry Neela but he has no courage to accept that he is in a relationship where he almost have two kids. I am not defending him and supporting him but just sharing my view.

Ashish does not stay with Asha either!

But Asha is OK with it - what about Avni and their expectant child?

Why do the parents (Ash-Ash) not think about what life they want to offer their kids? Why are we not shown scenes where Ashish is wondering how Avni is faring?  And what he can do to make her emotionally happy?

Ashish has decided he is not going to any of Avni's school events or escort Avni anywhere in the capacity of a Dad!  This is against Avni's wishes!  She does not want to live a life where her father continuously disappoints her!

She does not care about her name - nor do her friends - but she does want a caring, supportive, full-time father.  Something that Ashish does not and will not give her!
