This strategy seems smart and is working with reference to BBD.ππΌ
You have a trailer which shows the lead couple in love and later seem to have drifted apart.
So when you go to watch the movie, you kinda know there is going to be a conflict but also these stills/scenes remind you of how much they are/were in love. So you kinda go in rooting for them to get together at the end.
As for the family audience, the family audience more than a decade ago went and watched Titanic with the whole family tagging along. So if they could manage then, I don't think they should have a problem with watching such scenes now π
Plus, now that promotions will start in India, if they focus on the movie and the chemistry of lead pair which is really good and not focus on the personal lives like in case of fitoor where the breakup was discussed more than the movie itself, things should be good for the movie*hoping*
