Akka's house was a daze, she couldnt talk much anyway, NOIDA cousin's family was there, since Kamakshi Athai had parked herself there.
Akka was busy trying to make breakfast and it was almost Noon
Shravu ran up and down up and down in his new jeans and tee shirt, Amma had given him the fireworks box from Batras, there was enough for Brinda Vasudha she said
R&B lingered downstairs as Shravu was working on the crackers unsupervised
The road was noisy with people having taken the day before Delhi Diwali off
Motorcycles whizzed as Shravu darted between cars trying to launch rockets
II didnt have a sharp retort for Subbu's Mom, R&B didnt even hear it, he was being shown some pictures of something on Subbu's
Dad's phone, the baby was whining and so were a bunch of boys squealing about their Diwali purchases in loud Tamil
When II didnt answer and found herself searching for one
"Ellam nalladukke solren naan" (I am saying for ur own good only) Mami said with a smile
"Romba thanks Mami" II nodded
Neeraja wondered why her MIL was giving unsolicited advice, she had no clue II was the "dumped" one
Or the fact that II's Periappa had lived 70 years of his life clueless, and in bed
Subbu's Mom would tell her all that in the car... II suspected
"Masakai padutharda dee?" (Do u have morning sickness?) Subbu's Mom cooed, like she were her own child
After dealing a gut tearing blow she was being sugary sweet

He noticed her face had lost all color for some reason...
"U must come, why dont u follow us?" Subbu urged
II looked at R&B with no enthusiasm
"Neeraja's parents live 7 kms from here, in Saket" he said
"SFS" Subbu's Mom said (self financing scheme)
SFS was upper middle class, bought by Delhi bureaucrats in 1970s and 1980s, considered "OK" back then, were selling for multiple crores today
"I have to go to Akka's and then a couple people's" II spoke firmly
"Vandita, daane, Vandana va? Is she still in Munirka? Neeraja's Athai lives near Palam Road block, BA? AB teriyale... very noisy" she said sighing
"I will tell her u said that" II said firmly... and smiled
Mami was taken aback a minute... and then composed herself
II didnt say goodbye or anything, walked wearily to the car
She had eaten two idlis and a cup of rava pongal she was tired and hungry
She rode quietly, she wanted to say "U can drop me and go home" but was too tired to fight
He played R&B, she didnt care...
His phone beeped with a meme, she accidentally picked it up thinking it was hers and read and smiled
And uncomfortably set it down when he turned right into the Vasant Kunj Rd by Munirka Market
He didnt care, he was ready to blast her if she came up with a wise crack
In fact he was itching to pick a fight
She looked out the window
Her cheeks felt heavy and strained, holding back tears
She didnt expect Akka's house to be full
Just when II got done making coffee for the crowd, Thatha (Bala's Appa's) retired friend walked in with wife, daughter and son in law
There was NO room to stand
II went to Shravu's bathroom and cried, rinsed her face and walked out, R&B held baldie by the now closed balcony area, gently rocking him
She sniffled as she got out, NOT expecting him AT ALL
"Umm I threw up" she lied
PHEW!!!
She walked out without trying to nab baldie
Too many things wrong in the picture according to him
He followed her out, she sat on the sofa and played with the NOIDA cousins kids
Baldie napped in his arms
Bala made small talk
"Ur saree is SO gorgeous" Vandu said
"Idu kozhuppu daane, you wnat me to say something abt urs" (Fishing for compliments are we?) Ii smiled
Vandu wore the saree R&B and II bought for her
"Ambala Manni called me the second after I posted it on facebook she whispered, jealous woman" Vandu preened
"U looked lovely" II smiled and hugged
"are U OK kanna?" Akka asked
"Ya... why?"
"Moonji sevandu irukku?" (Ur face is puffy and pink) Akka worried
"I threw up, avan kitta sollaade"(dont tell him) II whispered unawares she had JUST told him herself
Akka nodded
She got up to go serve idlis for her family, since the idli cookers cooled down
On her way she signaled R&B to go with her
"she threw up she said, PLEASE not ask""She didnt want me to tell u" Akka whispered
"Yet another lie?" he thought...
"We are heading back in a bit I will call the Doc" he promised
Akka turned around and hugged him tight, "She loves babies" she said smothering her own lil one that slept doundly
"Vandita" he cooed
"I want her to have this baby da" Akka begged
He nodded
Bala peeked
"Arey jawan, sexy pati idhar hai aur usko hug kar rahi hai?" Bala was curious
"She was saying how much she loves u" R&B joked
He started fondling Vandu "Kya saree laayi meri saali boss, my wife looks like a million bucks"
R&B turned to his wife, the two girls of the NOIDA cousin chattered II sat staring at the door
they left in a half hour
Abhishek sat in the living room chatting with Mr Iyer
"Is he moving in?" R&B thought, not amused
"Vaa dee, onna pathi neraya vishayam avuthu vitta Periappa" (Ur dad shared a lot of dirt)
His unhappy wife cheered up instantaneously
"F---!!" cursed R&B

He brought her home after lunch
It was around 6, Amma was reluctant to send her
Abhishek was staying the night
HE didnt want to, Lakshmi Venkat and her husband and kids were leaving around 9 or 10 PM
After fireworks at DII
ranjan had sent a car already, Lakshmi and Venkat were off to Sarojini Nagar market for picking up things she needed for Janakpuri
Athai and her husband used the car to go see a friend in RK Puram Sector 7
Appa took a nap her parents room
II took a nap in her room as he worked in the divan...
Abhishek played video games with Lakshmi's girls in the computer room
"She looks tired I think we shud be heading out" he said to Mrs Iyer, finding a quiet moment
"Cant u stay for fireworks? She always enjoys them, she is such a tomboy" Amma gushed
"Umm.. maybe tomorrow at the Diwali at Malcha Marg?' he offered
"She looks tired, was the temple tiring?" Amma asked curiously
"Umm.." R&B didnt know if he shud tell her mother who they saw
Since he had no clue what Subbu's Mom spoke, he considered it and then, decided against sharing
"Ya... it was great"
"she over extends herself, she has been up from 4" amma said softly "I am unable to bring her over for a month and such...
I should have wrapped up the book 4 months ago
Looks like we wont be done until May" Amma was apologetic
"she will be fine" R&B said
"Will u tell me if she mentions missing any food, I will make it for her?" Amma asked tearing up
He felt empathetic... he just nodded
"She is very happy to see Abhsihek" Amma smiled "He is a good boy" Amma claimed
"He could be selling Internet po*n" R&B thought
"Mr Iyer says "If we had a boy he wud be like Abhishek" Amma said harmlessly "He even wanted to" Amma stopped abruptly
R&B wasnt an idiot he knew what Amma was hinting
"Niice... a boy like him and a girl like II" he thought...
"Kuduthu vekala" Appa said in a gruff, sleep drugged voice, as he joined his wife on the sofa (II wasnt so lucky to marry to the "good Iyer boy")
Abhishek was bummed II wasnt staying the night
"U shud come to Malcha Marg tomorrow"
"are u singing at Shankara Math?" he asked confusing Vasant Vihar with Chanakyapuri
"No MY house is there" Ii said in a raspy sleep drugged voice as she sipped her chai
R&B felt himself visibly relax
"Podi, there is only embassies" Abhishek ridiculed her "Periamma she is still expert in peela (slang for lies in Tamil)" he said
Amma chuckled
"I LIVE THERE DA... Amma TELL HIM... Appa" II begged
R&B waited eagerly for his wife to ask HIM... so he could reach out and punch Abhi on his face... but his wife realized he is pissed to be in DII so completely ignored him
Mr Iyer was looking at the packaging on a box of Ranjan gifted
dry fruits on the dining table he grunted unwilling to agree with his daughter
"OK between Kautilya and Niti Marg" II argued
"Podi" Abhishek teased "there is only embassies in Chanakyapuri" Mr "Knowall" claimed
"No no...dont believe me...BUTTT... I have ALL the episodes of FRIENDS" she said smugly😈😳
His wife had just used HIS sitcom collection to entice the bas***d..😡
Abhishek's eyes lit up
R&B decided he was going to delete them first thing when he got back home
