Grey Sky, Grey Home
Dark clouds loomed in the sky
He walked underneath them on the empty road
The atmosphere was stll, with no signs of life, not even an unearthly cry
He carried on, undeterred, striding in his long black overcoat.
The sky rumbled, a nearby swing creaked
A chilly wind rose, unwelcomed by the ancient trees
The downpour began and rain into his hair, seeped
The perfect companion for an environment so bleached
A huge gate welcomed him into a land long forgotten
He stood outside it, inanimate, contemplating
Lifeless trees peered at him from inside, the shrubs beneath them rotten
The watery wind forced him inside filling his heart with despair.
The stone stairs, grimy, were slapped with his boots
The wooden door stood forlorn, holding the crumbling place
He grasped the knob, it broke and rolled away, revealing the creeper's slimy roots
With all his military strenght, the door was kicked down
The house reeked of mud and death
Like he had that day, firing at will, unaware of the same fate for him
And despite the grey sky, the thunderstorm and his family out of breath
In the split second, he was home.
And despite the emptiness and destruction in the city
His homecoming brought him satiety.
