"Permission to lie"
She called Akka after Amma hung up upset with her, she hung up, took a few deep breaths
Went down to the kitchen, raided the frig... there was no chocolate
She texted the dude
"ghar par chocolates kaha hota hai?"
He sent a smile back
When she sent a grumpy emoji
"Ask Mahavir" he texted
"ghar par koi nahi hai" she said
He sent a worried emoji
"If I dont get chocolate I am going to be very scared" she texted
"I texted the guard he will get you some"
SHE IMMEDIATELY CALLED HIM
"Why did u do that?" she hissed breathless, running out the front door bare feet
"what happened II?" he demanded
"Avana edukka da sonney?" (why did u tell him?)
"There are 3 guys at the gate" he said softly
"NOT TO BUY ME CHOCOLATE" she shrieked
"Bhayya please mujhe chocolate nahi chahiye" she begged
The two that were on duty gave her a strange look
"sir ne kaha"
"I am sorry, but unse galti ho gayi"
"What do u think I am a DIVA? I dont need any" she shouted
"What are u doing home alone?" he asked
"Trying to burn the house down" she reminded him
He chuckled
"Nee enna panrey?" (what are u doing?)

"Any hot women?"
"Ummm... ya a couple" he said
"Oh?" her face fell... "Oh?" she repeated

U COULD LIE AT TIMES LIKE THIS
"Umm... did u talk to them?" she asked back in the kitchen opening cabinets
"Not yet... I am talking with a man that worked on Makemytrip.com" he smiled
"So angel investors and successful startups?" she asked in awe
"thats how it usually is" he smiled
"Cud I have gone?" she asked
He didnt answer...
"I am kidding... I" she said softly
"Ofcourse you could have" he said cutting her off
"Bring back brochures and notes" she ordered
"Do u want to fly out tonight?" he asked
"Kal main Amritsar ja rahi hoon"
He didnt respond
"Hang up panniteya?" (have u hung up?) she asked cutely
"No II" he said frustrated
"I had to either ask her for time off or go back... I decided its safer to go back"
"Did u try asking?" he argued
"Umm... no.. I was too afraid" she admitted to him for the first time
"Of WHATTT?" he pleaded, impatiently
"Vendaam sonna na? (what if she had said no?)
"So this is not about Bala?" he wanted to ask
He waited for her to say something about the balcony interaction
Nothing was forthcoming so he waited
"Were your parents OK?" he asked shocked as if he suddenly realized the implications of it
"No" she whispered choking on her denial... her eyes filling up
They both exhaled and inhaled... did that a few times in unison, until she sniffled
"You dont have to go" he informed
"I know. Then come back" she giggled
"You have the most screwy logic for everything" he snapped
"Thanks" she cried softly
"Did u find the candy?"
"No there is ice cream and fresh berries..." she said pulling it out
"Call me if the help doesnt get home in an hour?"
"Am I allowed to lie?" she ASKED (Can I lie they are not home, and have you return from Mumbai
on Sunday night itself without attending the Summit... all guilty about leaving your wife alone?)
"Asking for permission? Thats a first" he sniggered (like you havent lied before)
"rakshasan!!" she cursed back

She made herself a HUGE bowl, went up to the 2nd floor living room curled up on the couch and called Akka
There was a lot of background noise
Amma had told her, so Akka answered but didnt talk
"Pesa mateya?" (Wont u talk?) II asked
"Edukku di panniney?" (WHy did u call?)
"I am sorry ka, ur sister is a wimp" II pleaded guilty
"Ottaade di, rascal, panradayum pannittu melodrama vera" (dont kid with me, u did what u wanted)
"Akka" II begged
"You are actually not going to be there at Shatabdi's punyajananam?"
"Its all because u are not naming him that" she chuckled weakly
"That stupid joke doesnt even warrant a response" Akka was MAD
"Akka I got a bad start with her"
I AM NOT COURAGEOUS TO FACE ATHIM
I KNOW HE IS UNHAPPY WITH ME
HE MADE IT CLEAR FRIDAY
I AM USING RITU AS AN EXCUSE TO DO THIS
ITS THE HARDEST THING IVE DONE
I HAVE SPENT TWO DAYS OF HIS LIFE WITHOUT SEEING HIM ALREADY
AND STARTING TOMORROW
DONT KNOW HOW MANY MORE DAYS
THOSE SKINNY CHEEKS THOSE TINY HANDS WITH THOSE TIGHTLY CLENCHED PALMS WITH PEELING SKIN
THOSE ARCHED EYEBROWS, THE PINK LIPS... I CAN CRUSH THAT TINY FACE BETWEEN MY PALM AND JUST LAY THERE INHALING THOSE CHEEKS
A lot of background chatter
"Yaar yaar vandrikka?" (who is there now?) II asked eagerly
"Lakshmi Venkat, her husband, NOIDA cousin, her husband, Kamakshi Athai and my in laws" Akka listed
"Hmmm" II nodded tearful
"shravu enna panran?" what is shravu upto?"
"He is downstairs with the NOIDA cousin's daughters and lakshmi's kids" Akka said
II imagined Shravu being the "boss"

I CANT GO DOWN AND PLAY WITH THEM
BULLY THEM
TAKE THEM FOR ICE CREAM
"when he grows up you are responsible for telling him you chose work over his naming ceremony" Akka was in tears
"dont say that" Ii begged
"I am ONLY hoping you are not lying to me and there is nothing more to it than work" Akka warned
"WHY will there be anything else?" II lied
"ISHITA... I just delivered a baby I didnt get a brain transplant" Akka shouted
"No... its not about the Panchseel Hall ka" II blurted
"Nee solrey, naa ada nambanum" (u say so, and I ought to believe you) Akka scoffed
