Set in the rustic interiors of Uttar Pradesh, the show traces the journey of Sarojini - a strong, well-educated girl who gets married into a family with a regressive patriarchal set up - a household governed, dominated and practically ruled by her over-bearing, chauvinistic father-in-law Dushyant! Refusing to cow down to his controlling ways like the rest of his bahus, Sarojini takes the challenge head on and strives for a healthy balance of power and influence in the household, leveraging education to her advantage.



 



Shiny Doshi Shiny Doshi As Sarojini

A well mannered, straight forward, smart and vibrant girl studying in the fast paced city of Delhi. She is not scared of taking stand for what she thinks is right.



Mohit Sehgal Mohit Sehgal As Somendra

He is Dushyant's younger son. A spoilt brat, he is least interested in studies and is famous for his Casanova charm. Though he never listens to his father, Dushyant loves him and pampers him the most.



Pankaj Tripathi Pankaj Tripathi As Dushyant Singh

Dushyant is a powerful man. He is a corrupt politician, an ill-mannered landlord and is so evil that even the villagers are petrified of him. He treats the women within his family as puppets by completely dictating their lives.



Ketki Kadam Ketki Kadam As Indira

Indira is Dushyant's daughter whom he considers to be his lucky charm responsible for the good fortune of his family. This is why Dushyant does not want her to get married as he fears that she will take all the luck with her and so keeps her locked in a room and ensures that she is unable to run away. This has resulted in Indira losing her mental balance and often gets sudden fits of anger and starts screaming loudly, abusing, pulling her hair and every now and then becomes out of control. Dushant has now kept a servant who looks after her and takes care of her.



Purva Parag Purva Parag As Nirjhara

Nirjhara is Dushyant's wife and has spent her life listening to his abuses and bearing his beatings. She cannot ignore or disobey her husband even in her dreams and in spite of all his horrific behavior still loves him in her heart. She believes that she needs to support her husband in all her decisions no matter what and is an ideal dutiful wife.



Nitin Goswami Nitin Goswami As Bhaskar

Bhaskar is Dushyant's elder son and takes care of his fathers' business. To say the least, he is a puppet in Dushyant's hands and cannot make a single decision on his own. He is married to Swapna but never shows any affection towards her and is transforming into Dushyant with every passing day.


Salina Prakash As Swara (Profile to be created)

Swara is Bhaskar's wife.  She has never visited her parents since the time she got married to Bhaskar. A well-educated and spirited girl has lost her spark since her marriage and is often insulted by Dushyant which has led her to become more and more like Nirjhara. Though she is not happy with her marriage, she does love her husband and fulfills all her duties towards him as a wife.




Rakesh Pandey Rakesh Pandey As Gajanan Singh

Gajanan is Dushyant's father. A well-mannered, religious and empathetic person understands the problems of people but becomes helpless in before Dushyant's decision. He has a soft corner for the women in his family but knowing Dushyant's nature cannot interfere to bring about any reform in their condition. His only regret in life is that he is Dushyant's father.




Minakxi Verma Minakxi Verma As Arundhati

Arundhati is Gajanan's wife and though is kind hearted she pretends to be strict with the women in the house to avoid an outburst from Dushyant. She also has a habit of gossiping and backbiting about her daughter-in-laws to Dushyant whenever she is upset with them but later regrets her actions when Dushyant punishes them.



Sushil Bounthiyal Sushil Bounthiyal As Keshav

Keshav is Sarojini's Uncle, and Dushyant Singh's Munshi. He is a timid and weak natured man but made it a point to send Sarojini to Delhi to complete her education. A very sincere and good-natured, but gets scared very easily who completely adores Sarojini.




Bharti  Bharti As Pyaari

Pyaari is Sarojini's Aunt who is only worried about Sarojini's marriage since they cannot afford dowry.  In her heart, she wants Sarojini to be married to her nephew so she will not have to worry about dowry and is someone who doesn't like Sarojini much.
