Hoodie's owner
Everyday was the same in Chandigarh she realized Monday the 20th was like Friday the 17th
She lived in a hotel room and changed out of a suitcase. She asked for the "basic suite" at her own expense
Her company would only pay for the room not for the kitchenette
She didnt want to wander out at night, the men didnt approach her for "dinner plans" or even ask what she was doing
Ritu called everyday to "touch base"
She was OK until she called after she did, she was reminded of "how she wasnt the boss" "How she was getting a call from her boss"
And how she had to be in the trenches doing this
Even Ashwini called to thank her one afternoon
II was touched, Bally texted her occasionally with a picture of a
choc truffle from the Perk or a picture of some new Dilbert humor on a Treasury guy's cube wall
There was no call or text from hubby
"Trekking, hiking, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, jumping off a plane" she muttered as she wore a green saree on Tuesday evening... rewore it... since she didnt have the heart to take it off
She had no place to go for dinner, but she wore it again
"I pick scuba diving" she said aloud
Gathering her pallu elegantly, shoring it up over her shoulder...
"U dont have to say it I know u wont... but I know I wear the saree as good as Akka" she told the mirror
She washed her face, wore make up... tried various bindis
Texted Ranjan to check on the nightly menu
texted Amma to check on Periappa
Tried on 6 shades of lipstick
Left the hot red one on... took a selfie
And wiped it all out... and changed into jammy shorts and a cami... wore his hoodie and went to bed
Looked up the room service menu... ordered "Pasta Primavera" and "Creme Brulee"
It didnt arrive for an hour, she curled up on the couch and dozed...
Tuesday after karate... Vandu requested Sam to pick up Shravu as Bala was late returning from work
She sent him a irritated text
"CAR IS DEAD DI" he sent back a frustrated all caps note
"WHERE ARE U?" Vandu responded
"Yenn? Nee vandu repair panna poreya?" (are u going to fix it?)
"DO WHAT U WANT. Shravu is in karate" she said
"WHO asked u to join him in a million classes?" Bala texted
"I cant fight with u... its in a ground floor of a Vasant Vihar house the guy locks up and leaves at 8 I have to go get him"
"Ask ur friend to... aval paiyan irupaane kandippa" (her son must be in it no?) "he must have been driven in a AC Merc"
Bala let his jealousy rear its ugly head as he stood on the road side on a muggy night near Pitampura
the traffic was horrendous, he had no idea how he was going to spot the mechanic
Vandu wandered the kitchen nervously, wondering if she can ask Amma if she can "borrow" II's car for two weeks until Bala got his repaired
It was July 21st, the money was drying up, they could most likely get it fixed in August
If the baby was a C Section? Then... God only save them...
They would owe way more after Insurance pays...
For now... Shravu had to be picked up
She called Sam nervously
"Ek help maangoon?"
Sam ALWAYS picked up her call on first ring. Made Vandu tearful
She NEVER displayed ANY airs or arrogance
NEVER pretended to be too busy
"Hi! se pehle?" Sam teased
"Shravu ko please pick kar logi kya? Bala ki .. sorry Bala is late" she spun
"BAS? Mujhe laga Nepal jaakar koi special seed ka ghol laane ko kahogi ya... Myannmar se koi plant extract maangogi" Sam giggled
Vandu smiled
"I will also send dinner" Sam said😳
"Nahi II Sunday ko bhejti hai"
"U wont eat from my house?" Sam asked
"I will... but weekday mein sab busy hain" Vandu explained
"All I do is sit around all day and file my nails and nurse Lasya... and then listen to the crap my MIL dishes" Sam said
Vandu never "Sat around" but her in laws DIDNT SAY A WORD
Life was starnge that way
"Dont worry about dinner"
"The help made dal makhani, baingan bharta and orange pickle. There is mango ice cream too" Sam said
"Ummm sounds sooo good... aaj shaam ko do ghante light bhi gayi" Vandu admitted softly
"Vandita... I am like II" Sam said softly tearing up
"I KNOW" Vandu whispered choked up
"I will bring Nandu home with Shravu feed the boys and in the meanwhile another help will bring u dinner"
"Thanks Samyukta"
"U were welcome Vandita"
The girls laughed...
Shravu ran into Sam's house in a tearing hurry
Crashing into Manny
"Are u on a speed inducing drug?" she chuckled... gathering him
"Can I go up?"
"Umm... sure" Manny smiled
"How is Chithi" Sam asked
"She is bored" Shravu said
"Oh ho" "did u entertain her?"
"No... she only wants my thenga burfi and that.. (stopping) namkeen" he grinned
"We shud send her some?" Sam asked
Nandu: Lets GOO!!!!
Shravu: I have to go chithi... are u my chithi or Periamma?
Sam whatever love
Shravu: Did u talk to my chithi?
Sam:Not yet I will (smiling)
Manya: Does she call u everyday
Shravu:Amma skypes, she wears Uncle R's hoodie and sleeps on the bed (laughing hard)
Sam smiled secretively
Manya:U dont?
Shravu:She just stole some thenga burfi and namkeen and sent it to her house
Manya: To her Amma Appa
Shravu: NOOO HER HOUSE, DII is not her house she said, Malcha Marg is her house, NOT DII
Shravu told Manya sternly with child like innocence
Manya looked at the kid thoughtfully
Sam was taking the baby from Sofia she didnt pay attention...
Sam called R&B "Busy hai?"
"Nope"
"Are u talking to her?"
"Who?"
"Kitni biwi hai" Sam accused
He laughed heartily
" where is she?"😳
"Chandigarh... OMG What a liar u are... pata nahi kya?"😳
"Umm no" he said
"Aur woh waha tera hoodie pehankar baithi hai😭
