Chapter 1: The Final Asura

"Today, we shall play hide and seek!"

 

The boys stared at Krsna for a second. "Seriously Krsna? After all these years, when we are almost adults, you want us to play hide and seek?"

 

"But it is such a wonderful game! Isn't it?"

"No hide and seek!" the boys chorused. Krsna jumped. "Alright! No hide and seek!" He thought furiously. Vyomasura will be arriving any time now! How can I carry out my plan if these boys don't agree to hid and - ah!

 

"Why don't we divide into two groups, one group as Gopas and the other as calves, and then play group hide and seek? It will be fun!"

 

Sridama patted his friend's shoulders. "You really are obsessed with hide and seek today, aren't you? What is the catch, Krsna?"

"Catch? No catch! In fact, unless we start playing, no one will catch anyone!"

 

The gopas rolled their eyes, but finally agreed to playing this game of Krsna's. Balarama sneaked up to Krsna. "SO which asura has our dear uncle sent today?"

 

"Vyomasura, Dau. The bat. The magician son of Mayasura. That is why I have planned this game. Oh, and after I have finished off with him, Devarshi Narada wants to talk to us."

 

Balarama looked at Krsna. "So...?"

"Yes."

The two boys cast a sad look at the grumbling boys dividing themselves into two groups, as though it was the last time they would see their friends.

The game had progressed almost halfway when Vyomasura made his appearance. "About time, and I thought, he wasn't going to come at all!" muttered Krsna. As expected, Vyomasura took the form of a gopa and joined the game. Soon, half of the group of boys in the calves side were missing. And the gopa group was confused. These guys were really good at hiding!

 

But when none of the boys were to be seen, the other group became anxious. They went to Krsna and asked him what was happening.

"Did you people listen when I said hide and seek? No! So endure this game! Tell you what, forget the groups. All of you hide, and I and Dau shall find you! Promise me this, and I shall search for the others."

Baffled by Krsna's attitude, the boys silently agreed. And in moments, they too had disappeared. Now only Vyomasura, Krsna and Balarama were left. As planned, Balarama strolled into the open, right in front of the bush where Vyomasura was hidden. As soon as the demon had jumped out to grab him, Krsna leapt onto the demon's back, and with his iron-grip, threw him onto the earth and choked him to death.

"And with that," said Krsna, getting up, "our adventures in this holy land of Vrindavana come to a close. Let us be prepared for the new chapter in our lives, Dau. Mathura."

 

Balarama's eyes filled with tears as both of them ran to the cave where the boys had been trapped by the demon. Krsna and Balarama broke down the boulders blocking the cave, and the gopas rushed out, embracing Krsna with joy. None of them noticed that the tears in Krsna's eyes were of sorrow, not joy.

"Why have you called me here, Kanha?" Radha enquired. "Do you know what lies I had to tell Jatila Mata to escape from the house?!"

 

Krsna looked at Balarama and sighed in response. Radha raised her eyebrows. "And what is that supposed to mean?"

Radha never got to know her answer, as just then, Narada appeared on the scene.

"Pranams, oh Devi Radhika! Pranam, Bhagavans Krsna and Balarama!"

 

"Greetings, Devarshi! What do you wish to convey to us?"

"I wished to inform you that Kamsa has finally found out all about you, Prabhu. In fact, I told him."

Radha's eyes widened in shock. "What? Devarshi? You told Kamsa about Kanha? That he is actually Mata Devaki's son and all that?"

 

"On my own command, Radhe."

"But - "

"Mata, if I may." Narada interjected. Radha nodded her head and he continued. "Tomorrow, at daybreak, Akrura the Vrishni will arrive in Vrindavana to escort you to Mathura. Where you shall begin a new chapter of your Leelas as the Yadava Prince, oh Prabhu!"

 

Krsna turned to Radha. "Now you know why I called you?"

 

Radha's face turned pale. With a faltering voice, she asked, "Su-Sudama's.. curse?"

Krsna nodded. "From tomorrow, the hundred year period of Sudama's curse shall begin."

The pain of leaving your home and your friends is unbearable and even God is not spared from it. But we have to move on.
The Vyomasura part was excellently written. So Vyom was another name given to Kanha?

Aww, you made me cry ! I just cannot bear to see Kanha Sad !! The Vyomasur part was very good loved how the boys didn't want to play hide-and-seek !! So grown-up they are ! And I feel like hitting Narad ! What would have gone wrong if he disobeyed Kanha for once !!!! Edited by Radhikerani - 9 years ago
