TV actress Neha Marda, who we have been seen playing the part of the betrayed yet courageous wife Urmi in Zee TV's Doli Armaano Ki', spoke to Pinkvilla.com about her daily struggle to maintain a sound professional and married life, her pitiable work hours, her real life husband and much more! Excerpts from the interview:
I don't talk of my sleep and shoot hours else my fans would start pitying me. We had come to know earlier that you are having tough time dealing with long work shifts and your personal life? Is all well now or the matter is yet to be solved?
Well, for any actor working for long hours, it will always be an issue especially when you're married to someone living in another city. It is completely the same with me. I am just lucky that my husband and in-laws understand my problem. It has not been sorted yet but we make the efforts from both sides to stay happy and connected. No complaints anymore though.
How often do you meet or communicate with your husband Ayushman?
Ayushman has begun travelling to Mumbai more often these days as he understands my deadlines. For major family functions I go to Patna taking leave in advance. We meet every month or 45 days.
For how long do you plan to continue with your current acting project? Is a work break on the cards?
No break as of now as my character is picking up and I love my job. Yes, it is stressful but I am enjoying every bit of it.
In Doli Armaano Ki' we have seen your character Urmi break the conventional norms of marriage and stand up for her own self. How can we see her character developing in the coming episodes?
Urmi's character has been developing in every episode. Actually, for my role, I take inspiration from what the today's woman is and I find that lovely because I do know many women who undergo so much torture in their real lives. I hope my show and character helps them stand up against the violence they face in their life.
We have watched you take a similar stand in Balika Vadhu' too where you went against the wrong practices of your orthodox mother-in-law Dadisa. Was getting into Urmi's shoes easy for you after playing Gehna?
There is bit of me in every role I do. I guess standing up for myself has always been my habit. So, it is always a lot easier to play such roles and a pleasure too.
What is your daily routine like?
I think it is better I don't talk of my sleep and shoot hours else my fans would start pitying me. I take an hour for makeup and to get ready for my role. I am back on the sets within half-an-hour to 40 minutes post a lunch break.
Any plans for Diwali? What are you going to do on the festival?
I am hoping I get to go home to my in-laws on Diwali. I've not had time to prepare anything for the festival due my shoot schedule. So I've left it to my mother-in-law and mom entirely.
Do you wish to work in the TV industry for a long time?
I love this medium so yes I intend to and if films happen along the way which am keen on I'd surely try my hand at that too.
Do you have any Plan B in case you decide to quit TV?
Nothing! I was born to ACT.
