Chapter 2

Meanwhile, Armaan was trying to buck up the courage to meet someone important.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, he knocked on the door.

"Come in", a voice came from inside.

Armaan entered.

"Good morning, sir", he said.

The person is shocked on hearing Armaan's voice and looked up.

He couldn't believe it.

"Dr. Armaan aap yahaan?" he questioned.

"Ji Dr. Shashank, maine aaj se hi Sanjeevani waapas join kiya hai", Armaan said.

Shashank surprised Armaan by getting up and enveloping him in a tight hug.

After a minute, he came out of the hug.

Shashank had tears in his eyes.

"Aapko yahaan dekhkar bohot achcha laga Dr.Armaan", he said.

Armaan just smiled.

"Ab kaise hai aap?" he further asked.

"Ab main bilkul theek hu sir, ekdum pehle jaisa", Armaan replied.

He also gave Shashank his reports, to study them.

Shashank seemed quite impressed with his improvement.

"Well Dr. Armaan reports toh sab achche hai...it's good to have you back", he said.

"It is good to be back sir."

After hesitating, Armaan finally finds the courage to talk about Riddhima.

"Sir, dekhiye ye aap bhi jaante hai aur main bhi jaanta hu ki main yahaan se kyu gaya tha aur ab waapas kyu aaya hu..." he began.

"Riddhima", Dr. Shashank said.

"Ji sir, sir...Riddhima ne meri wajah se bohot takleef aur dard saha hai, lekin ab main usse sirf khush dekhna chahta hu...isliye main waapas bhi aaya hu, par agar in 10 mahino mein kuch bhi badla hai toh mujhe bata dijiye", Armaan said, "Agar kuch bhi badal gaya hai uske liye toh main uske saamne aakar usse aur takleef nahi den chahta. 10 mahine bohot lamba time hota hai. Aur phir woh toh mujhse nafrat karne lagi hai."

"Woh aapse nafrat nahi karti hai Armaan. Woh aaj bhi aapka intezar kar rahi hai. Usse pata hai ki aap uske liye zaroor waapas aayenge. Sach kahu toh aaj tak main sochta tha ki woh jhoothi ummeed lagaaye baithi hai. But aaj pata chala ki aap dono ke pyaar bohot mazbut hai. Woh aapko apnaa legi", Dr. Shashank told him.

"Bohot taakat hai Riddhima ke pyaar mein. Maine toh theek hone ki ummed hi chod di thi. Riddhima ka pyaar hi tha jo mujhe us narak se waapas la paaya hai. Bohot taakat hai uske pyaar mein", Armaan said.

"Ye dekh kar bohot khushi hui ki aapko Riddhima par itna bharosa hai Dr. Armaan. Aapne sahi kaha, bohot taakat hai uske pyaar aur woh aaj bhi aapka intezar kar rahi hai. Mujhe yakeen hai ki woh aapko yahaan waapas dekh kar bohot khush hogi", Shashank said.

"Matlab aapko mere aur Riddhima ke rishte se koi problem nahi hai?" Armaan asked.

"Bilkul nahi, itne mahino mein nain samajh gaya hu ki Riddhima aapse bohot pyaar karti hai. Jab usse pata chala ki maine usse jhooth bola hai, toh aapke liye woh mujhse tak lad gayi. Aaj tak Riddhima ne kabhi mujhse aise baat nahi ki, jaise usne us din ki thi jab usse pata chala tha ki humne usse aapka sach chupaya hai. Aapke alaawa woh kisi aur ke saath khush nahi rahegi. Aur aapko yahaan apne saamne dekhkar ye bhi samajh aa gaya ki aap bhi Riddhima se bohot pyaar karte hai, itna pyaar ki agar aapki wajah se uski zindagi barbaad hoti ho toh usse chodkar chale jaaye. Aisa pyaar har kisike naseeb mein nahi hota. Main bohot khush hu ki Riddhima ko aap jaise ladka mila", Shahshank said, smiling.

"Thank you, sir. Thank you so much", Armaan replied ecstatically.

"Aur haan, ab ye sir bulaaya band kardo, please", Shashank said.

"Toh phir kya bulaun?" Armaan was confused.

"Dad", Shashank replied.

"Kya?!" Armaan was shocked beyond belief.

"Kyu, kya aap mujhe Dad nahi bula sakte?" Shashank asked.

"Arre sir aisi koi baat nahi hai. Lekin Dad?"

"Haan kyu nahi? Main Riddhima ka Dad hu, aur mujhe bharosa hai ki ab bohot jald hi tum dono ki shaadi ho jaayegi. Toh abhi se practice shuru kar do", Shashank replied, smiling.

Armaan was ecstatic thinking about his marriage with Riddhima.

"Ok sir, sorry I mean Papa. Woh aadat daalne mein thoda time lagega", Armaan said happily.

"Koi baat nahi", Shashank laughed.

He hugged Armaan again and then Armaan left.

Shashank was really happy to see Armaan. Finally, his daughter would have the life she wanted.

Armaan then resumed his duty.

"Dr.Armaan aap kahaan the itne time se? Main aapka kabze wait kar rahi hu", Su said, dreamily on seeing Armaan.

Armaan sighed. He did not want to deal with her now, but he had no choice.

"Mujhe thoda urgent kaam tha", he said and they got to work.

Much to Armaan's surprise, Su was actually good at her work when she was not making goo-goo eyes at him or trying to flirt.

He was impressed.

"I must say Dr. Suvarna, aap mein ek bohot achcha doctor banne ke saare qualities hai. I'm impressed", he praised her for her hard work.

"Thank you, Dr. Armaan", she replied, super happy that he had praised her.

"And lunch break ho gaya hai toh hum chalte hai", he said.

"Yeah sure."

They made their way to the cafeteria.

All the other interns were already there alongwith Nikki and Abhi.

"Pata hai bhaiya, ye jo naya reporting doc hai na, bhot khadoos hai", Sid told Abhi.

"Achcha hai...Tum logon ke liye na strict doctors hi hone chahiye", he replied.

"Haan aur pata hai, dikhne mein ekdum young hai. Aur bohot hot bhi hai. Mujhe toh nahi laga tha woh aisa niklega", Naina piped in.

"Hot huh?" Nikki smirked.

"Haan, haan. Bohot hot. Ekdum dashing waali personality hai uski. Main toh do second mein hi fida ho gayi uspe", she said.

"Achcha, lekin ye young, hot, dashing aur khadoos doctor hai kaun?" Nikki asked curiously.

"Mallik, Armaan Mallik", a voice came from behind.

Nikki turned to see her best friend standing there!

She was seeing him after 10 months. 10 long months! She was completely overwhelmed and blissfully happy to see him. He was fine!

She hurried towards him and started hitting him.

All the interns were surprised to see this.

"Stupid, fool, idiot, gadha, paagal. Aisa koi karta hai kya? Tu mujhe nahi bata sakta tha? You moron", she said and kept on hitting him.

"Bilkul nahi badli tu", Armaan smiled.

"Main tujhse lad rahi hu aur tu has raha hai!" Nikki exclaimed, appalled.

On hearing this, Armaan smiled some more.

Nikki got even more angry on seeing him smiling and started hitting him again, all the while chanting, "I hate you", like a mantra.

Hitting him, she hugged him hard, as if her life depended on it but still kept saying that she hated him.

Armaan hugged her back and answered her "I hate yous" with his "I'm sorrys".

Finally, Nikki was tired and stopped hitting him and just hugged him.

They stood like that for a while. Armaan holding Nikki and her crying her eyes out.

After a while, Armaan came out of the hug and wiped her tears.

"Bas, bas...shoo. It's ok. I'm sorry", saying so he hugged her again, briefly.

"Mujhe nahi pata tha tune mujhe itna miss kiya yaar Nikki", he said jokingly, trying to make her laugh.

"Shut up, baat mat karo mujhse tum", she said, still angry.

"Oye sunn...Tu toh kuch bol hi mat. Tu batake gayi thi kya jo mujhpe itna chilla rahi hai?" Armaan asked, referring to the time when she had left college without telling him about it.

"Arre par...woh...main", Nikki didn't know what to say.

"Ab zyada main magar mat kar. Teri saari nautanki abhi rukhwaata hu...shanti rakh ", he said and went to the counter.

Everyone was curious as to what he was upto.

He returned 10 minutes later with a plate of food and two cups of coffee.

"Ye le", he said and forwarded the plate to Nikki with a cup.

"Noodles with lots of cheese!" Nikki exclaimed, "I love you yaar, Armaan."

"Itna khush mat ho. Sirf tere liye nahi hai. Main bhi toh khaunga", he said.

"Hawww...main nahi karti share!" Nikki said.

"Abbe Muskaan ki chatti aulaad. Tu uske jaise zyada bhukkad mat bann. Hamesha ke jaise khaayenge. Samjhi?"

"Oye sunnn...main koi Muskaan ki chatti aulaad nahi hu. Uski friend hu. Aur tu zyada bakwaas mat kar. Agar usko bataya na maine toh itne zor se chillayegi ki Patiala se yahaan tak tujhe sunaayi dega", Nikki threatened.

"Haan toh...toh theek hai na.Main koi usse darta warta nahi hu", he said.

"Abbe useless jhooth toh achche se bol.Aur ye le", she gave him a tissue, "sar pochle. Pasina aa raha tujhe."

He took the tissue and wiped his forehead.

"Chal ab mujhe khaana hai yaar Nikki please."

They were just about to start eating when Abhi spoke up, "Aye Nikki tum dono ek plate mein kyu khaa rahe ho?"

He thought Armaan was gonna eat in another plate.

"Abbe Modi saala hamesha beech mein aa jaata hai", Armaan murmured and then louder, "Kyu aapko koi problem hai Dr. Modi?"

"Haan", he replied.

"Kyu? Mere aur Nikki ke beech ki baat hai. Aur woh meri best friend hai. Toh aap please beech mein mat boliye", Armaan replied.

"Haan toh woh aapki sirf best friend hai. Meri toh woh wife hai", he exclaimed.

Armaan's expression turned horrified and Nikki muttered an "Oh! Shit!" under her breath.

Armaan turned to Nikki and asked her, "Ye kya bakwaas kar raha hai Nikki?"

"Woh Sach bol raha hai Armaan", Nikki replied quietly.

"Tune isse shaadi ki?" he asked horrified and disgusted at the same time.

Nikki could only nod.

"Kya yaar Nikki, tujhe 10 mahine akele kya choda tu toh paagal hi ho gayi!" he exclaimed.

"Arre Armaan please yaar! I love him", she tried to reason with him.

"Aur ye Modi?" he asked.

"Armaan he loves me too", Nikki said.

"Tu bol rahi hai toh maan leta hu", he said and turned to Abhi,"Lekin agar Meri Nikki ko thoda bhi pareshaan kiya na toh dekhna. Teri khair nahi. Iss baar kisike kehne pe nahi rukunga. Samjha? "

Abhi was so terrified that he could only nod.

The interns were totally amused watching their exchange.

Everyone was just about to start eating when Armaan's phone rang.

"Hello...haan bol...kahaan hai tu...abhi...kyu...main baad mein aata hu...arre itni kya jaldi hai tujhe...theek hai theek hai aa raha hu", he said and hung up.

"Sorry guys, jaana padega. Baad mein milta hu", he said, getting ready to leave.

"But sir khaana", Su said.

"Baad mein. Bye", he said, kissed Nikki on the cheek and left.

Su just looked at Nikki feeling jealous. Armaan had kissed, albeit on the cheek but kissed her nonetheless. She was married for God's sake! She wished that he had kissed her instead of Nikki.

"Bhabhi...aap aur Dr. Armaan bohot close hai kya?" she asked.

"Close? Bohot bohot bohot close hai hum. Armaan mera best friend hai", Nikki told them.

"Wow", was all Su could reply.

"And woh mujhe abhi bhi nahi pasand karta", Abhi piped in.
