In 1983, I made my first television appearance as the female lead in Mr Ya Mrs. I was new to Mumbai, and the only work experience I had was modelling with an ad filmmaker. One day, while accompanying me to the dentist, he casually offered me the lead role in Mr Ya Mrs. The scriptwriter thought I was perfect for the part, but the agency rejected me. They believed that as a model, I wasn't cut out for acting. I was so keen on playing the part, that I promised to reimburse my director for his losses if the pilot show got rejected. Luckily for me, the agency ended up loving my performance. The show went on to be a huge hit, and it made me a mini star in the city.
