A OneShot present for Rae, a very special friend.
ArHi OneShot |Just Another Random Conversation|
"Arnav what are you doing here?"
"Why, I'm happy to see you too, Khushi! I'm glad you missed me."
"Arnav, now is not the-"
"It's never the time."
"Nothing, nothing. Just talking aloud."
"So how was work today?"
"It was...tiring. In fact, I'm not done yet, so you really should-"
"That's why I'm here...to keep you company."
"And maybe afterwards, as a sign of gratitude for my chivalric actions, you could come out with me for dinner. And maybe a movie..."
"In other words, you're here because you want to kill time?"
"Woah, Khushi. I am wounded! How could you so doubt my honest intentions?"
"Because I've known you long enough to know your intentions are never honest."
"Well. If you are going to be that way..."
"What? You're not even going to stop me leaving? How can such a heartless, cold woman be a kindergarten teacher?"
"With infinite patience and affection-"
"Which you never show me-"
"Which tends to run out by the end of the day."
"Then why are you working here? I mean, you're studying for a degree in medicine, why did you choose a kindergarten job as an internship? It makes no sense! And also, it makes you cranky and busy throughout summer..."
"I'm doing it because I want to...and it's experience. I wouldn't mind being a paediatrician one day. And for that I need to know how to behave with children."
"Read: you love kids."
"Well, yeah, that too."
"That's good to know for future reference."
"Nope, nothing. Just talking aloud again."
"So...what? Are you just going to stand there?"
"Oh, are you inviting me to sit down? Why thank you!"
"Arnav, careful! Those desks are for pre-schoolers, you'll break them!"
"Break them?! Are you calling me fat?!"
"When did I-"
"Because let me tell you Miss Khushi, my body weight is all muscle-"
"Ah you do, do you? So you've noticed that I've been working out-"
"Uh, I was going to say that if you didn't have muscles you'd be a skeleton with skin."
"...trust a medical student to dissect my smooth-talking."
"Will you stop talking to yourself already?"
"Well, there's nothing else I can do! You've made it clear that you don't want to pay me any attention, a man has to do something for company..."
"Arnav, I'm working. I have to sort out all these papers into the kids' separate folders. Then I have to print out next week's batch of class work and homework. And then I have to clean up the classroom, put the toys away-"
"I still don't understand why you picked this of all things for internship-"
"I told you-"
"But I know that you like it. And that's good enough. Tell me what to do, I'll help you clean up at least."
"You...wait...Arnav, you're going to clean??"
"Don't sound so scandalised."
"You've not cleaned your flat for two months, of course I'm scandalised!"
"Well what would be the point of cleaning up if you're not there to see it and compliment me on what a good job I did..."
"You're such a child, Arnav, honestly..."
"But you love kids."
"So let me help you pack up earlier here, then we catch dinner..."
"No, wait, we can't go out for dinner-"
"Khushi, for Pete's sake! I'm trying so hard to spend some time with you, can you at least-"
"Because I made biryani at home, and I- I was thinking...maybe you'd like that better."
"That sounds nice."
"You do like it, right?"
