Thank you from the bottom of my heart! It's an incredible recognition and I am grateful to all my readers for sticking with me through the long and arduous journey through the evolution of this story. You guys are truly what keeps me going even when life intrudes and I take long(er) breaks to recoup :)
As for the questions asked, I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.
When/How did you come up with the concept for this story?
I don't recall precisely how I came up with the story, but do remember thinking one day about how Arnav and Khushi would be like if the story took place in Kerala. I like to experiment with different ideas and as is the case with most of my story ideas, it started off as a brief time-pass and then gradually evolved into a full-fledged fiction.
To all my patient readers - KH WILL get closure (as will Maryada) even if it takes me ages :).
What was your first story on IF?
My first story on IF was a GEET fanfiction called, "Love and Despair" - that too started off as an OS (I was getting tired of all the UST on screen and HAD to pen down something out of sheer frustration) and 365 pages of obsession later, it was a sweeping saga of all sorts of mess... ;)
What about writing do you like most?
It actually serves all sorts of functions for me. Primarily it's stress relief. There's something very rewarding and grounding about inventing your own world and indulging in all aspects of that world. And when a story really gets into your head, it's almost like a natural high because that world can become incredibly magical - like you have your own secret-world that you can escape to at will...
What's one thing you dislike about writing on IF?
Hmm... I wish I was not so keen on feedback... lol... but I am, sadly enough. The more engaged my readers in discussion about my story, the more motivated I am to write.
Aside from that personal reason, I think a rating system such as that used on fanfictions.net would be helpful to adopt here as well (although I do understand that just by virtue of IF rules regarding the content of FFs, this suggestion would be rendered moot). If there was something the DT could do to make the lives of writers easier, what would it be?
I think this has been said ad nauseum by many and I think the current DT is actually quite active in being helpful in this regard, but addressing plagiarism issues as quickly as possible would be really helpful. And also to ensure that the plagiarized content is removed before the thread gets locked.
Who is your favourite writer on IF? Favourite story?
I have to confess that I generally do not read fanfictions on IF; almost any extra time that I have away from life is spent on either writing updates on perusing the forums of the shows that I watch in order to get translations and daily updates (yes, time for another confession - my grasp of Hindi is very very poor). However, way way back, when I first started on IF, the writing that got me hooked was of a very talented writer, -Sookie- I was amazed at her range and her humor and it got me curious about the creative writing aspect of IF.
Is there another story you might be writing soon? If so, do you have something to say about it?
I have no plans of writing anything serious or long anytime soon (until I finish KH), although I have been dabbling in some OS's based on my current obsession, Junoon - Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq. I have been reminded by a few readers that this is how I start all my FFs, so count me duly warned ;)
Do you have a message for your readers or IF members in general?
To my dear readers, especially those who have been following my stories for a long while, I never say this enough - Thank you for reading, Thank you for discussing, Thank you for supporting, and Thank you for being the truly wonderful and intelligent women that you are. You are my all-time favorite muses.
Love,
Devi
