This guy has a history of physical abuse. Here is another incident.
India's most popular color commentator and TV personality is back in the news. Unable to get a grip on his anger issues, Navjot Singh Sidhu got into big trouble recently at the Venkatachalam toll booth near Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.
While on the road from Chennai to Venkatachalam (in Nellore district) to participate in a BJP fund-raiser, Sidhu and his driver decided to ignore the security guards at the toll booth, who were frantically waving them down to stop at the check point.
Instead of pulling over, Sidhu and his driver attempted to speed past the guards. Upon seeing this, an enraged security guard hurled a stone at the car. This, unfortunately, set Sidhu off, and he along with his driver jumped out of the car and manhandled the poor security guard--and then forcibly took him to a nearby police station!
While some might argue that the guard should not have hurled a stone at Sidhu's vehicle, it did not have any government plates or an MP sticker on it. Meanwhile, considering the fact that Sidhu's has had a previous brush with road rage, he should have been extra careful now that he's a Member of Parliament!
Back in 1988, Sidhu served jail time for assaulting a fellow driver after he sped past the fiery politician. The man, who had a pre-existing heart condition, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Sidhu narrowly escaped a conviction in that case and escaped a prolonged sentence.
However, in this instance, Sidhu claims he never even laid a finger on the guard, and is vehemently denying all allegations. But witnesses at the said toll booth beg to differ!
To add to this, after attending a function that evening, Sidhu returned to the same toll booth and created another scene. This time, it was two lorries carrying live cattle to a slaughterhouse that irked him.
Sidhu immediately sat down on a dharna on the highway in protest! Several local politicians and officials had to be called to counsel the peeved former cricketer. Only then did he finally hit the road again!
By doing such things, all Sidhu's done is give his political opponents some fodder to tarnish his reputation. The Congress has gone ahead and labelled what went down as a "reprehensible act." AICC (All India Congress Committee) spokesman, Manish Tiwari said, "I don't think that elected legislatures or parliamentarians, who are supposed to be law makers, should really be taking law into their own hands."
So, for his inability to check his own temper, proving that he's still susceptible to road rage, holding up highway traffic and achieving tremendous negative publicity out of the whole incident, Navjot Singh Sidhu is our idiot of the week!
