SP: Lakshi ma is godess of wealth-Akshara

Navratri is my favorite time of the year as maLakshmi, the Goddess of Fortune is invited to our homes. We do our best to secure her favours for many years to come.

The name ''Lakshmi'' is derived from a Sanskrit word Laksme, which means "goal." Many people believe that Lakshmi represents the goals of life, which may be worldly and/or spiritual prosperity.

Ma Lakshmi has four arms and hands. Seated on lotus, she wears red clothes. Most of her images depict that she has golden coins and lotuses in her hands. Also, her four hands symbolise the four ends of life: dharma, kama, artha, and moksha.

Let me tell you all a story about Lakhmi ma. When the Devas were fighting against the Asuras to obtain amrit,they asked Lord Vishnu for some help, who was on Earth in the form of a Kurma, a tortoise. The Devas decided to churn the oceans for the amrit by threading the snake Vasuki around Mt. Mandara. It is believed that Kurma dived into the ocean floor to balance Mt. Mandara on his back. Due to Kurma's grip, the mountain did not sink in the ocean bed. Finally, the Devas recived amrit from Lakshmi Devi. Later, they recieved fourteen treasures. Goddess Lakshmi selected Lord Vishnu as her Consort, who carried her to heaven.

For me Lakshmi ma is a very special Goddess. She is practical and magical. She is worshipped across the world. During my times of challenge, she has always been a healer and source of comfort while offering a sense of greater fortune. I feel a powerful cosmic connection with her.
