Rakhi Sawant: Willing to expose, but not smooch
04th Dec 2005  16.00 IST
By Nikhil Kumar

Rakhi Sawant truly deserves the title of Bollywood's undisputed 'item girl'.

We have already witnessed the extent to which this svelte belle can let her hair hang down and flaunt her sexuality with gusto. And her coming item numbers – one of them has her in a coin dress – will only cement her image as an item girl who offers good eye-catching variety even in her gyrating acts.

Rakhi says she has become quite comfortable in appearing in skimpiest of dresses before the camera. But there is one thing she is particularly averse to. That is, smooching her male co-star.

"I don't mind exposing in my dance numbers. It is something that the audiences want. But I would not be comfortable in smooching my hero before the camera. The very idea of it makes me feel queasy," Rakhi told a news channel.

Another actress who shuns locking lips on the screen is Ayesha Takia . The girl reportedly declined the offer to act in Yash Raj banner's movie Neal 'N' Nikki because her role required her to smooch the hero, Uday Chopra , several times.

Meanwhile, Rakhi is gearing up for more titillating stuff.

"If I don't do it, nobody would notice me on the screen," says Rakhi.

Perhaps, she is right.

Thrills, romance and po*n – Bollywood's Friday spread
08th Dec 2005  22.15 IST
By Nikhil Kumar

Three films with very different themes will hit the theatres on Friday. One is a thriller, another a youthful romance, and the third, a flick exposing the po*n industry.

After a spate of comedies in the last few weeks, this Friday brings in some variety.

For, releasing on the same day would be Apoorva Lakhia's Ek Ajnabee, Yash Raj banner's Neal 'N' Nikki and Mahesh Bhatt-presented Kalyug.

Even though the main star of Ek Ajnabee , Amitabh Bachchan , is recuperating in a Mumbai hospital, the movie would hit the theatres on December 9. However, there would be no lavish premiere of the film.

The movie, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Bunty Walia, also stars Arjun Rampal , Perizaad Zorabian , Vikram Chatwal and Baby Rucha Vaidya.

In the film, Bachchan plays a misfit who takes on the task of protecting a young girl (Baby Rucha Vaidya) who is a target of the kidnappers because of her rich and influential parents (Vikram Chatwal and Perizaad Zorabian).

One highlight of the movie is that Amitabh himself did all the action scenes in the film. There was no body double, no short cuts, just the actor and the danger zone.

Another highlight is the friendly appearances by Sanjay Dutt , Abhishek Bachchan and Lara Dutta .

While Ek Ajnabee promises lots of thrills, Yash Raj's Neal 'N' Nikki is a youthful romance about two very unlikely individuals falling in love.

The film has Uday Chopra playing the lead role of Neal, while Tanishaa (Kajol's younger sister) plays Nikki. As the movie's story goes, Neal wants to enjoy his bachelorhood before he gets married to the girl of his parents' choice. So, he goes to Vancouver on a 21-day bachelor vacation. But the first few days of his vacation are ruined, thanks to Nikki, a sprightly girl who somehow ends up spoiling all of Neal's dates. Then the two call it a truce. As the two explore the Canadian countryside, Neal and Nikki exchange life stories, and love develops between them gradually.

The main highlight of the movie is its youthful subject and its music. The film also has Uday and Tanishaa locking lips about 21 times before the camera. Another highlight is the story's setting – the stunning landscape of British Columbia in Canada.

And if you don't want thrills or romance, there is titillation promised in director Mohit Suri's Kalyug , a movie with a highly provocative theme and a story that stretches the human morality to limits.

However, Kalyug is not a po*n movie, but a movie that exposes the multi-billion dollar po*n industry and its workings.

The movie stars Deepal Shaw as an earthquake victim who is sold into the po*n industry and goes on to become a topnotch po*n star. Emraan Hashmi plays the owner of a sex shop in Amsterdam. Amrita Singh plays an influential woman who runs an international po*n racket. Newcomers Kunal Khemu and Smiley play a honeymooning couple who are videotaped by the hotel staff.

Many parts of Kalyug have been shot at bizarre places like fetish shops and sex streets in Zurich.

Dhoom sequel won't have bikes!
09th Dec 2005  11.20 IST

It may sound startling, but the sequel of Yash Raj banner's last year's hit Dhoom may not have any biker action.

The speedy mean machines, the nail-biting chases on them, and the finale when John Abraham drives his bike off the cliff, were the crowd-pulling factors in 'Dhoom'. But the movie's sequel won't focus on bikes.

< = src="http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?sid=18489&m=8&tp=10&d=j&t=n">

As learnt, the movie's director, Sanjay Gadhvi, has said that the audiences must brace themselves up for something more adrenalin savvy.

However, he is not willing to spill the beans beforehand.

The movie's sequel stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in the roles that have shades of gray. Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra would reprise their roles from the original. Bipasha Basu is another new addition in the cast.

The movie's music director, Pritam, is quoted as saying: "Dhoom 2 will have something much bigger than bikes. Even in Hollywood films like Speed, they don't repeat things in the sequel… So, Dhoom 2 will have something more macho and larger-than-life than bikes."

It seems that 'Dhoom 2' would be a bigger venture than the original. Reports have already had it that Ash's character in the movie is required to flaunt a lot of oomph. And the presence of Hrithik as the bad man would definitely be something to look out for.

Mohabbatein is a film that portrays the battle between Love and Fear.

It is a film based in a small North Indian town. A film that is set in one of the most prestigious educational institutions of the country - Gurukul. It is governed with an iron hand by the autocratic disciplinarian Narayan Shankar (Amitabh Bachchan). He runs the institution keeping in mind its three pillars "Tradition, Honour and Discipline". Every year he reminds the fresh batch of students that the outside world is closed to them once they have decided to enroll in this prestigious institution. And he warns them that any flouting or bending of the rules will not be tolerated. To this institution come three youngsters. Boys from different parts of the country, with different characteristics, where fun and frivolity is frowned upon, where laughter or sharing a joke is deemed unacceptable. It is here that Vicky (Uday Chopra), Sameer (Jugal Hansraj) and Karan (Jimmy Shergill) form a kind of unbreakable bond. A bond that will require them to face the most difficult of tests and make choices that they never thought they would have to make. Because it is here that these boys break the cardinal rule of Gurukul & Narayan Shankar.... They fall in love.

When Vicky, Sameer and Karan first meet Ishika (Shamita Shetty), Sanjana (Kim Sharma) and Kiran (Preeti Jhangiani) respectively, their lives are placed in a turmoil as they would like to meet the girls, talk to the girls, and dream about the girls, but the omnipotent figure of Narayan Shankar looms large. It is only with the arrival of Raj Aryan (Shah Rukh Khan) the maverick music teacher, who encourages the boys to follow their hearts and break open the gates of Gurukul, that the boys actually begin living a life that they earlier only dreamed of.

Mohabbatein slowly becomes a story of the battle between what the two stellar men, Narayan Shankar and Raj Aryan, stand for. Two stubborn men that live their lives with completely opposing principles. One who stands for love and everything that the heart encompasses and the other who stands for discipline and fear and who believes that love only leads to Pain and Weakness.

It is only the eventual outcome of the Love Stories between the six youngsters that will decide what will finally triumph...
Love or Fear.
