Aamir Khan's 'Satyamev Jayate' reinvigorates the TV viewing experience

MUMBAI: Entire nation was eagerly waiting for Aamir Khan's TV debut show 'Satyamev Jayate'. And finally the day arrived. Like Aamir had already mentioned in the show's promos that '… dil pe lagni chahiye' (…it must move your heart) and the show stood by these lines.

Immediate reaction started pouring on Twitter. Topics that went trending were #SatyamevJayate, Aamir Khan, Star Plus, Female Foeticide, SMS Y to 5782711, Reliance Foundation, Nita Ambani, DD National, Swanand Kirkire and #SMJ.

From common man to a celeb on Twitter – each one shared an equal stand about Satyamev Jayate.

Actress Preity Zinta wrote, "Watching Aamir Khan on Satyamev Jayate discussing Female Foeticide ! I love this effort from him & thank him as a Woman !"

Veteran actress and activist Shabana Azmi wrote, "Aamir Khans show can bring a revolution. Thoroughly researched covers all aspects touches emotional chord n forces us to reexamine ourselves"

Director Madhur Bhandarkar wrote, "Now Television will no longer be called an idiot box,the VISION of Television broadens up with #SatyamevJayate !!!"

Director Kabir Khan wrote, "@aamir_khan For an hour this morning television stopped being the idiot box"

Music composer Vishal Dadlani wrote, "Aamir coulda made 3 Cr. a day for any kinda TV show. He CHOSE to make his airtime worthwhile. May his tribe increase. #satyamevajayate"

Filmmaker Ken Ghosh wrote, "Aamir does it again...and this time on TV, Satyamev Jayate touches the heart and opens the eyes to the country around us"

Comedian Vir Das wrote, "Full respect for Aamir. Psuedo armchair pessimists always underestimate the power of awareness. Well intentioned, optimistic & much needed."

Actress Dia Mirza wrote, "I always wanted something like this on TV. Thank you Aamir for stirring a people that sundays are 'lazy' 4 n 'others' problems r not theirs."

Ace photographer Atul Kasbekar wrote, "The Sunday 11am slot seems to have come back with a bang... #SatyamevJayate"

Actress Mandira Bedi wrote, "A reality show in its truest sense. Some stirring & troubling realities of our times.. I applaud @aamir_khan"

The show almost touched the entire generation who was watching the show.

Aamir Khan's debut episode focused on female foeticide – and told the shocking tale of few women who were forced to go through a devastating journey.

It was presented with shocking and hard hitting facts, which would question the viewer's mind and heart for a very long time.

The interesting part of the show was also the 'magic wand' – the power owned by people, as coined by Aamir.

In the first episode Khan urged to support him while he writes a letter to the Rajasthan government, the state where in spite of a sting operation by daring journalists who exposed the doctors indulged in the practice on camera, yet no action has been taken.

Anyone can send 'Y to 5782711' via text if they support the cause and demand justice.

Aamir also clarified that it costs 1 Rupee for the text, and the money generated via the text messages, after deducting the taxes will be donated to an NGO. Also that same amount will be matched by Reliance Foundation and donated to the same NGO.

Finally, the Indian television industry that thrives on daily soaps high on 'saas-bahu' (mother-in-law vs daughter-in-law) dramas has showed something so revolutionary, which if properly followed up by the audience can change the nation.

Minutes after the show T-Series released the heart-moving song 'O Ri Chiraiya' on YouTube, which was beautifully rendered by Swanand Kirkire & Ram Sampath.

Satyamev Jayate: Aamir Khan's TV show is a movement

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan finally made his television debut with the highly talked about television show 'Satyamev Jayate'. While Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan's game shows were high on entertainment value, Aamir chose to be different. His highly emotional chat show, aims at bringing a change in the society.

Real people and real stories form the strength of 'Satyamev Jayate'. First episode of the show aired today, focused on the issue of female foeticide in India. We come across such reports almost everyday in newspapers and news channels, but hardly pay any attention. Aamir Khan deserves an applause for bringing up such a sensitive issue and presenting it in a hard hitting way.

The amount of research Aamir and his team has put into the show was clearly visible with the facts and figures presented. Every aspect of the issue was covered with great diligence. The show began with some shocking stories of mothers who struggled to give birth to their girl child and how they are bringing them up now.

IBNLive

Not many know that every year 3 crore girls are killed even before taking birth. Contrary to our assumption, educated people from big cities foster such practices. On the show, Mitu Khurana who is a doctor by profession revealed how her in-laws tortured her when they found out that she was pregnant with twin girls. Wife of an orthopedic surgeon, Mitu's story was an eye opener for all.

This was followed by interviews with experts, doctors and media persons as well. Footage of a sting operation done seven years ago by two reporters was also included in the show. Cost of a girl's murder is just Rs 2000, and how casually medical professionals talk about it is shocking.

The only light moment in the entire 90 minute show was Aamir's conversation with some young men from a Haryana village. They are all unmarried as the number of girls in their village is extremely low.

From interviews, bar charts to video conferencing, different formats used in the show enhanced the impact of the message.
In past, we have seen shows like 'Aap Ki Kachehri with Kiran Bedi' and 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf', trying to establish a connect with the common man. However, Aamir Khan's 'Satyamev Jayate' surpasses all of them in terms of content and appeal as well.
Aamir completely understands the pulse of TV audiences. The daily soap obsessed Indian viewers will like the show as its high on emotional drama. Known as a perfectionist in Bollywood, Aamir's presence on the show will increase its mass appeal as well.

'Satyamev Jayate' is not just a show; it's a movement to change people's mindset. What we saw and heard today on the show will surely stay with us for a long time. Aamir ended the show with moist eyes and promised to be back with an equally hard hitting issue. Known for his meaningful films like 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Taare Zameen Par', this show will increase Aamir Khan's popularity multiple times.

First episode of the show was impressive, let's see if the further episodes live up to the expectations or not.

The evils of the society are created by us: Aamir Khan

Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: The accolades and the appreciations that Aamir Khan's first TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' has generated has been unprecedented. No sooner did the review of the program hit the web, it saw an avalanche of comments from people all across the globe.

The emotionally charged program has struck the right chord with the viewers. So much so, that Satyamev Jayate's website crashed courtesy the unprecedented response from audiences far and wide.

Aamir Khan's big ticket TV debut raised a very vital issue plaguing the society today. The maiden episode was about female foeticide which highlighted how unethical medical practitioners are hand in glove with families wanting to kill the female unborn baby and how educated people are too involved in it!

Talking about the concept of the show after the first episode was aired, Aamir said, "The show is about introspecting ourselves. The evils of the society are created by none but us. The program is just to help all of us realise that these ills prevail only because we let them happen. It's not like people from Japan or Korea are responsible for these dastardly acts, it's all been created by people like us."

Opening up about his show on foeticide, Aamir further said, "We have to understand that the lady who is giving birth to a child is very special, we have to take extra care of her… and even more at this particular stage of her life. And it is really unfortunate that at time when the lady needs maximum love and protection, she's been subjected to utter pain and a prejudice of insurmountable order. At a time when she is supposed to be treated as a queen, she is trashed like anything."

About the feedback, which the show has garnered on its first telecast, Aamir shared, "On our website, we got a comment from a man who confessed that he was pressurizing his pregnant wife for a boy. But after watching the show, the man cried and claimed that he is changed man now and would accept the birth of his child - boy or girl as the gift of god and would take extra care of his wife now."

Aamir's new show will bring those issues on the forefront which have been ignored all this while. Each episode will talk about a different subject matter pertaining to social matters.

No villain in my show Satyameva Jayate, says Aamir Khan

MUMBAI: Actor-producer Aamir Khan, whose " Satyameva Jayate" saw its first episode, dealing with female foeticide, aired on Sunday morning, said there was no villain in his show and nor was he advocating any solution but just bringing problems to the people's notice.

"Doctors should not be blamed in this (female foeticide). Everyone involved in this are equally responsible. I don't understand why there is so much of fascination with boy child. After all, It is a woman who takes the family ahead," Aamir said, on the issue.

"There is no villain in my show. Who is the villain, it is we all who are doing something wrong. Each problem can be solved through love and that is the reason even my song 'Satyameva Jayate' is a love song," he added.

The opening episode had mothers from different parts of the country, from both rural and urban areas talking about the pressure and the problems they faced for delivering a girl child.

The actor says he can't solve anything, neither can the government.

"I am no one to bring change or solve anything neither can the government. One person cannot improve this or bring solution. I can only keep the issue in front of everyone. The only solution is each and everyone should say I will not do that," Aamir said.
